The guy gave it a 9.0 score, btwUsing the Outside Stopper steal moves, I was able to force 20 steals on Superstar difficulty as Stephon Marbury during a game with five minute quarters -- so while the Superstar moves add the realism of individuality to the court, don't expect to play any realistic type of basketball game here. Sure, you can call plays and players act more realistically than in the past, but this is far from a basketball simulation. As a videogame, it's extremely fun and addicting, especially playing two-players, but if you're looking for a true sim, you're looking in the wrong place

Actually, I think Jon Robinson's contract doesn't allow him to give EA games anything lower than a 9.0. I wish he'd move along already.

That was one crappy review
I'm not saying the game won't be very good or even that it won't live up to it's score but the things he was saying in that review sounded dumb which is pretty par for the course for IGN. This review reads like a guy who is pining for NBA Jam or Street in what is supposed to be a simulation game. According to the editor, it doesn't play anything close to a sim, and yet he gives Gameplay a 9.0 and writes that Live "is my favorite two-player sports game of the year so far." Really.
The argument will of course be that sliders fix everything which has yet to be the case in just about any sports game I've ever bought. I digress though. I shouldn't take IGN so seriously as nearly every other post I make is about what a horrid site they are.

Did not get in as much time as I would have liked with Live 06, but from the limited playtime I had, it was fun and seems to be much improved from last years version.
Let me say, that I was one who played Live 05 as his main NBA game of choice last year, and really enjoyed it despite the flaws.
The graphics seems to have been up'ed a notch in the 06 version. Brighter more vibrant colors brings the court more alive, although the crowds still suck. Skating is still there, but it never seemed to bother me too much in previous versions. It be great if they finally gotten rid of it entirely, but its Live, so I guess it HAS to be there
?!?!
I played a game on All-Star and got rocked big time. Had to go back down to starter to get scores relatively close. Steal's seem to be easy to come by, as the cpu ripped the ball quite a few times from me, you really do seem to have to protect the ball more in this version, as if you leave it out in front, it will get nabbed... I for the life of me could not get the offensive sets to change, but like I said, I did not spend much time with it as I hoped... Gameplay seems to be vastly improved, and fast breaks are much easier to come by in this version as they fixed the stop to receive pass syndrome that plagued last years version. You can see players curl off screens to get open shots, it really is much better implemented in Live 06.
Superstar abilities seems to have made a distinct difference between star players and the rest of the league, it is very apparent. Kobe was lighting me up, hitting from outside, taking it to the rack, and playing some great d...
Alot of fouls in mytime with the game, and none that pissed me off to badly, they generally were all shooting fouls, although one time, I got called for a charge and the opponent was definitely in the dotted circle area
.
I can see this game being a great multiplayer game...
Overall, it seems like an improvement over last years version...
If you have any ?'s fire away...

I don't even have the game and can answer that. YES, I played the PS2 demo at EB. Plus the screenshots and videos tell you all you need to know.dbdynsty25 wrote:The one and only question I've got is:
Are the players still too damn big for the court? They have yet to even address that in previous versions.

Holy crap...seriously...what are they waiting for. It seems like every year people complain about the player scaling. I was a big fan of 2005, but the court sizes and players really got to me by the end of it's cycle. Guess I'm going to give it a rent and pick up 2k6...especially if the ID comparisons ring true.

DB,
Im going to get 2k6 as well, I dont buy nor game as much as before, but Im a sucker for NBA games...
I played Live 05 like you my man and enjoyed it, just had to take it for what it was and what it presented as a game. From the initial, although brief, time with 06, it does seem improved over last years version.
Will get some more gaming tonight as the gf has her night class tonight.
Post more impressions after some more time with the game.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with 2k6, but I do have a few questions:
1) Is the rubberband AI still in? Nothing frustrated me more in previous versions than to build a lead, play well, only to have the CPU cheese its way back into the game with 3s and me unable to hit layups and dunks.
2) How do the controls feel? Do you still get the feeling that you are fighting the controller to make the players do what you want? Live 04 and 05 had these horrifically long animations for when you get checked or stopped by the on-ball defender, which always made feel like I was fighting against the controller to get the players to do what I want since you have no control when those animations fire. Very frustrating...
Thanks.

B,
Did not encounter the rubber band AI in the limited time I had with the game, but being a live player, I do know what you are talking about, I will let you know after some games tonight.
Control seems to be improved, and did not feel like I was not in control of the player vs previous versions, if that makes sense.
Overall, it appears that they have improved what was wrong with the game, it just feels tighter if that makes sense?!?!

I'm really liking this game, did not get a chance to play last years game very much. The games is 720p WS and looks really good. No more having to play in broadcast view because of no WS. The player models still look funny, looks like they have midget legas on long bodys...
Controls feels tighter and the game seems to have slowed down some. Does not feel as floaty as before. If you liked any of the previous version and have a HDTV, the 720p is worth the upgrade IMO.

I like this game a lot. I liked last year's and it's easy to see that this version is much improved right off the bat.
First thing, fast breaks are executed much better. Also, the players actually get up to get the rebound this year as well.
Court still seems too small for the players, but messing with the camera angles can help with this a little bit.
Still not enough stick time to really get a feel for it, but my two biggest gripes from last year seem to have been addressed so that's a big plus right out of the blocks.

Hmmm, watching this guy play it at EB, I couldn't help but to think that the game still appeared too arcadey for my taste. Specially with the supestar's moves, great to see but not too realistic. Some moves reminded me of NBA street even. Reading the other thread it seems that 2K6 still has some camera problems.
If anyone is still enjoying this game, I'd like to hear more opinions as I am in between 06 and 2K6.

Well I played it a good deal yesterday and it certainly ain't no where near a 9.0. I could pick out a lot I didn't like.....but I'll just repeat that is one of the worst IGN reviews I have ever read.

I still like this game, and think that it's improved from 2005. The fast break is there and whatnot. So overall it's better than 2005. What it's not better than, IMO, is 2K6.Boom wrote:I like this game a lot. I liked last year's and it's easy to see that this version is much improved right off the bat.

Last year I really did not like 2K5, but for some reason I'm really diggin the hell out of 2K6.
