Ack... Don't stretch the page out with long links. Use TinyURL www.tinyurl.com if you can't figure out how to use the URL Tex feature (Which is shown if you highlight your mouse over the URL button).

[url= insert url ] text goes here [ / url ]

Edit: Thanks!

With Hurricane Rita bearing down on the Western Gulf Coast, the Tennessee-LSU game, originally scheduled for Saturday in Baton Rouge, La., has been postponed to Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on ESPN2.
With the two payrolls of these 2 prgorams. Can't this game be called "Monday Night Football"??

I semi-agree with Shark...that fumble at the end of the Arkansas game was a joke. I was pulling for Tennessee that entire year (I had a friend that went there that year) and they were REALLY lucky.

Mind giving me a quick recap of that situation against Arkansas?

I did not say anything about TN being a terrible team. In fact, TN has had nothing but great teams since I can remember. I was ragging on PHIL. I figured that statement might get you stirred up though.

You said the championship was a joke which implies that they didn't deserve it. Last time I checked, their opponent came into the NC game with one loss and left with two. UT was the only undefeated team in the country (Tulane excluded due to unbelievably weak schedule). Every team has close calls throughout the year. It's what they do with those situations that counts. You must have forgotten the incredible comeback UT staged to even have a chance in that game. The incredibly dumb Stoerner fumble was only one part of that victory. How many national champions do you remember that weren't the beneficiaries of some lucky/close win(s) during the year? Very, very few.

Edit: I rag on Phil a lot as well, but did you know he has the second best winning percentage among active coaches at 79% (there's some minimum # of years but not sure what it is)? I think people dog him so much because he favors such a conservative, boring coaching style that puts viewers to sleep.

If memory serves Arkansas had a lead very late in the game and for some reason the Ark QB dropped back to pass and was rushed and slipped, and tried to balance himself with his hand that happened to have the ball in it. He fumbled, Tenn recovered and went down and won the game. I have no clue what the score was when all this went down or how much time was left. I'm sure an Ark or Tenn fan can be much more specific. I DO remember thinking that it was one of the most bizarre finishes to a game I had ever seen and that the QB for Arkansas made one of the most bone headed plays of recent memory.

That was not a close call, that was pure luck. If they would have lost that game, then they would not have played for the championship. Hey don't worry though, no one is going to take the trophy back. :D

I know that some FSU fans (not me) felt like the Noles would have won against the Vols if our QB (Weinke) was healthy for the Tennessee game. But you play with what you have - not with what you want to have. And besides, who is to say that Weinke would have played like the guy who led the team against V. Tech in 2000 and not the guy who looked lost against Oklahoma the following year? Remember that Tennessee had a pretty damn good defense that year.

I still think that the FSU coaching staff were the boneheads in the championship game against Tennessee. On the first FSU possession - it may have been the first offensive play - Bobby/Mark Richt tried a trick play with Peter Warrick throwing the flea flicker. The FSU coaching staff might as well have help up a big red sign that said "WE DON'T THINK WE CAN BEAT YOU STRAIGHT UP WITH THE ROOSTER AT QUARTERBACK"

And while Tennessee can be called lucky, let's remember they went 13-0 without their main tailback Jamal Lewis who was hurt before the season started.

Well as they say "s*** happens" and it does often...

I am sure Mr Abner can recall some close games during the season and questionable calls (just to appease the Hurricane fans) in Ohio States run to the national championship.

Oklahoma got a few lucky breaks at College Station in 2000 when they won their national title. They should not have won that game, and the refs pulled them out, yet as a Sooner fan I have no complaints.

USC had some lucky breaks, I recall seeing a few in the fog when they played Oregon St. They were also lucky that OU was their opponent instead of Aubrun.

You list a team in the last ten years that won a title and I can show you some lucky breaks that got them there.

Juju enjoy that National Title don't mind the haters.

Travis Henry was the backup RB for LEWIS. Not too shabby. I forgot about FSU losing Weinke. Too bad they didn't have a future NFL player waiting in the wings to take over.

I can recall more than just close calls. I can recall a game that the 2002 OSU champ team should have lost -- to Cincinnati. Luck plays a part when you win 13 or 14 in a row. But, the best team ALWAYS wins and luck or not, one play never, ever, decides a game all by itself.

When Iowa got killed by ISU two weeks ago, I realized they weren't a top team. When 1-AA Northern Iowa managed three 80+ yard touchdown drives against them last week, I realized they weren't a good team. That still didn't prepare me for what OSU did to them today, they are lucky they didn't lose 50-0 considering the way the game went. OSU was driving and scoring at will, while Iowa couldn't have scored a td if they played another four quarters. If not for a couple of lucky turnovers and some classy playcalling by Tressel, that score would have been very ugly. Not to take anything away from Ohio State, who was awesome, but Iowa is a bad team this year.

Some great games so far. Especially Minnesota-Purdue and BC-Clemson.

I don't quite understand why Purdue is ranked 12th, but a good win for the gophers anyway, though the defense still is suspect.

BC is definitely one of the top ACC teams, Clemson is not. Good lord, what a defense the eagles have.

Tough gritty win today by BC with a backup QB and going on the road. I only saw the end of the game as I was out buying a new car. My first one so Congrats to me.

ND beating a game Washington team on the Willingham Bowl.

Still, last weeks loss to Mich St. stings. Could be 4-0 and nearing a top 5 ranking. Oh well....
