ScoopBrady wrote:As for Madden PSP. I'm very happy with it. It's the reason I bought a PSP too. Portable football on par with current gen football games. It plays a good game of football and looks good too. The graphics definitely take a hit from the PS2 version but it still does look nice. It's definitely on par with EA Sports other PSP titles (NFL Street 2, FIFA, MVP). The bottom line is if you've played FIFA PSP and could deal with the pauses when the ball went out of bounds than you won't be bothered by Madden. The sliders will have to be messed around with a little but nothing too major. Hopefully a roster download will be available soon either from EA or the community. Anyone play online yet?
I think there is a roster download already, although I cannot take the PSP online yet (still not wireless) to check.

I think the menus are faster than MVP (haven't tried the franchise menus yet) plus you don't have to go to the menus in a football game nearly as often as in a baseball game. I'm also happy some of the features made it in like the accelerated clock, franchise mode, in-game saves, slide protection, hot routes, etc.

I'm really excited about the PSP again (although I wasn't nearly as down as others have been...never once regretted the purchase). It's just 6 months after launch and I've got a real solid lineup (Hot Shots, Burnout, Madden, and Lumines) with Virtua Tennis and GTA on the horizon. Plus, I'm hoping that Live is more like Madden.

Thanks! Do you like the game?
I love it. The gameplay is virtually in tact from the console versions. I had a great game last night - beat the Cowboys 27-21 in OT with the Phins. The running is a little too easy, but I bumped down run blocking and it seems to be better (3.9 yards a carry with Ronnie Brown on all-pro). The only problem is that it took me 1 hour 15 minutes to play a game on 5 minute quarters. The pauses are not too bad, but add at least 15 mintes on to the game. I read about the commentary and will shut it off to see how it remedies the pauses - I can't stand the commentary in Madden anymore anyway. Love the in-game save making it to the PSP version as well. Other than the pauses, I think EA did a great job - I can't believe how much depth EA included in the PSP version.

The commentary thing really works. It's pretty much eliminated pauses when crossing the goal line and getting back to the playcalling menu is a bit faster as well.

This game is really good.

In Game Saves are in there anyway...just put the thing to sleep. It's in every game. Now, if you're talking about saving the game, playing something else, and then going back to it...I'll agree.

I am loving the game. For a portable version I think it is pretty solid. I have to turn off the commentary as others have suggested but I really do like the game.

For those of you on the fence I would rent then make your own opinion. They have included a lot in the game to make it last for sometime.

If you turn off Michaels and Madden is there still a PA announcer in the game? Even in NCAA, I turn off Herbstreit and Corso. I prefer the illusion of being at the stadium as opposed to watching it on TV.

I have some questions ....

1) How do you throw the ball away?

2) What is a smart route?

3) How do you hot route a guy to block?

4) What is slide protection?

1) How do you throw the ball away?

No idea.

2) What is a smart route?

It automatically changes a receiver's route to take him past the first down marker. Press circle, then the receiver's icon, then down on the d-pad... I think.

3) How do you hot route a guy to block?

Don't know this one either.

4) What is slide protection?

It adds a general directionality to the O-line's protection, like if you think the defense is coming heavy on the left side, click the L shoulder button and press left on the d-pad and ostensibly you'll get added protection.

How do you throw the ball away?

I'm not sure how to do it either. I do it easily enough with precision passing :D

How do you hot route a guy to block?

I think it is hot route button, icon of player, and L1...something like that.

After reading the favorable impressions, I picked this up last nite. Wow, this is why I have a PSP. Very enjoyable. I played a quarter with the commentary on (actually didn't think the pauses were too bad), but with it off, the game plays very smooth.

The gameplay was very good right out of the box. I played at all-pro and lowered only my run blocking (after reading some impressions). I lost as Carolina to Atlanta 17-9. Only kicking was a problem as I had a hard time adjusting to the smaller kick meter. I missed two FG and an extra point. But it is something that I will pick up the more I play. Overall, just a very fun game.

The problem with football video games is that they generally take a long time to play. This was beautiful. I played a litle bit, put it in sleep mode, while I took care of my daughter, then picked it back up later.

On two different message boards (gamefaqs & OS), there are some complaints about the game shutting down randomly. One guy can not get past game 8 of his season because of the game crashing constantly. Anybody having this problem here?

So the pauses ain't that bad?

I was totally turned off by Madden's reviews, but you guys are praising the game.

I may have to pick this one up.

If you don't mind Tiburon's brand of football, the pauses and load times shouldn't kill your enjoyment of the game. It's portable Madden, for better or worse.

Just happened to me. I had just finished beating Seattle and as the game was exiting and going back to the franchise menu, it just shutdown...and I had just taken it off the charger. Pretty pissed about that as I lost over an hour of my life and statistically one of the best games I'd played yet. Julius Jones had 177 yards rushing and I finally had a good game passing with Bledsoe. As bad as I hate playing preseason games, now I'll have to go back and play it again.

Now as I boot the game back up, the start screen is there, and the little thing is blinking "Press Start", but when I press start, nothing happens. Must have pressed it 20 times before I turned it off. Now on the second try it boots up as normal. Kinda sad though if you have to constantly be worried about losing your progress. I'm notorious for getting on a roll and playing 3 or 4 games in a row without saving.

Well, I'd be willing to bet you will only lose a few games before you break that habit.

You are correct, sir. I am now saving at halftime of every game!

I'm getting back into this one now, but I can't seem to get the CPU to pass very well. Scoop suggested trying All-Madden to give the CPU passing a boost and I'll try that, but I'm worried that my pitiful passing will get even worse.

Does anyone have any good sliders?
