Has Top Spin lost its luster with you?

Post by Slumberland »

Unfortunately, I seem to have hit my limit as to how many invites they´ll let me send out in a single day, so either there´ll be room and I´ll shoot you an email tomorrow, otherwise I´ll set up another, hopefully larger bracket next week, Rally.

I just joined the tourney Slumber. I don´t mind a Sampras ban.

I played this game non-stop when it first came out. I have built three guys with all stars maxed out. But the game play just isnt realistic. There are hardly any rallies, there are some, but not many. Whoever can get the first angled shot in usually wins the point. But I still have fun playing. I have only played one match with the girls, and it seemed to have many more rallies. Maybe after this tourny we can try and do another women´s tourny.

How on earth did you find the patience to max out three created characters?

And I think a women´s tourney is a great idea. Let´s pencil it in for next week, depending on how this on goes.

The ladies are fun...way more, longer rallies than with the men.

I´d love to play a ladies tournament.

Once you figure out how to do the training modes it is very easy and doesnt take long at all. Just have to win a couple of tournaments to get enough money. I would say it takes about 3 or so hours to build a player up.

Well, check what I said earlier in this thread about Top Spin.

I spent about 90 minutes tonight building up my player, and it was an exercise in tedium and frustration.

Go play for a f*cking hour in some bullshit tournament to get money, a tournament that offers zero challenge until the finals. No chance for mid-tourney saves.

Take winnings from that tournament and go to training. Miss out on getting another star by 200 stinkin´ points and see most of the money that I worked a damn hour for go down the tubes.

And forget online play. Optimatch is broken, and games are overrun by s***-talking dickheads with their 14-star players searching only for the impossible angle shot and overdosing on risk shots.

Basically Top Spin comes down to a pick-up-and-play tennis game, exhibitions only, for me. Screw that. I have too many other games with way more depth that are a hell of a lot more fun to play.

My copy of Top Spin is for sale.

Take care,
PK

[ This message was edited by: pk500 on 05-12-2003 23:55 ]

Funny you mention that PK. Mine is going to EB the next trip I make. I´m actually looking to pick up Magic The Gathering: Battlegrounds. I played the demo and became quite addicted plus it has Xbox Live play. It´s basically a fast paced strategy game. I could see myself spending way more time with that than Top Spin at this point.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
Same story with me. Inside Drive 2004 in one hand, Top Spin in the other: Which interests me and will get more play?

Inside Drive 2004, no question.

Is it too late to be added to the league?

PK...if you have a action replay you can download a maxed out created player and show those assholes whos your daddy.

Also is any one up for a tour, tournament or season with a created player with no stars? Beginers only type format, no risk shots allowed?

Coco:

Sorry, man: I absolutely refuse to use Action Replay to cheat in video games. If I was going to get 14 stars, I´d do it the old-fashioned way and earn it.

I have nothing against those who use AR, but you´ll never catch me doing it.

The only time I ever use cheats is in driving games to open tracks. But I´ll never use them to get more cars, more powerful cars, special powers, etc.

Otherwise, AR would be a roster-updating device for me, nothing more. That´s why I don´t have one.

I can respect that...too many games for me to spend a life time on...AR helps speed it up.

Well, JamesE just trounced me again, though it was a close one. However, I think my time with this game is done. No baseline rallies, no unforced errors, just a sore thumb and a B button I feel guilty about using.

What funny is that of all Microsoft´s first party sports games this year, I got the sense that Top Spin was the most critically accepted, even though in my eyes it´s the one with the most unforgivable flaws. Hell, I had more fun online with Fever than this.

If you guys are having another tournie, I would love to join. I suck at this game online, only won a couple of times and ranking 18k+ But I am learning and would love to play some!
PK, Thanks alot! I plan to I have to get a headset for Xbox since I can´t even chat, maybe it is a good thing, hehe, since the other party would hear me swear up and down in TS!

Can you guys recommend a good hockey game to play on XBL? I love NHL2K3 (Sega), but now it is old so no one plays that online, forcing me to buy a new game haha.

Will:

Your only other options for online hockey on the Xbox besides NHL 2K3 are ESPN NHL and NHL Rivals.

If you liked NHL 2K3, then you´ll probably like its successor, ESPN NHL. But the goalie AI remains broken, and there are other niggling flaws.

NHL Rivals was a pleasant surprise. Definitely worth a rental if you´re looking for a pucks´ change of pace. I really enjoy it: It´s my hockey game of choice this year.
