Hell yeah!!!

What ever happened to football talk about football?

Fox was born and was able to purchase the NFC rights, thus degrading NFL pre-game shows to what they are now. Does Jimmy Kimmel have any more relatives we can use for more schtick?

Even as a Dallas fan I have to agree... Irvin is just painful to watch.

I miss Sterling Sharpe, he was pretty good.

Ah, you mean that every pre-game show should have a "me first" idiot. I get it now.

Sports these days is 'me first'. So I dont mind someone with that attitude on the pregame. At least he's giving me a sense of where some of the players are coming from.

Hopefully, when Jerome Bettis retires Irvin will be out of a job. That's a contemporary player for ya!

If you know that sports is "me first," then why do you need a self-centered, jackoff ex-jock to tell you that?

Do you really need Michael Irvin to analyze every situation from the perspective of a current player when that analysis can be condensed into these two words every time: ME FIRST?

Hmm ... didn't think the average fan today was that dim-witted. Guess I figured wrong.

Then again, Irvin working TV never has been about analysis. It's been all about receiving the oxygen of "look at ME!" publicity and exposure that a self-centered former athlete can't get anywhere else except for TV.

In other words, Irvin is just another arrogant asshole ex-jock, instead of an arrogant asshole current jock.

Well I dont' see what's so different from what Irvin does and what Terry Bradshaw does? You dont hear people complaining about how unprofessional Bradshaw is do you?

Why do some feel so threatened by a guy on tv just expressing his point of view like Irvin does? I for one don't take pre-game shows that seriously as maybe you do. It's not the pinnacle of the day for me.

Maybe I am dim-witted but not blind.

I wouldn't exactly call Bradshaw an arrogant ex-jock. He makes fun of himself quite a bit and seems quite down-to-earth.

Guess what the point I was trying to make is that sports is so Me Me Me these days that having a Me guy is just part of the transition sports has made into the entertainment realm. The networks will always get the football fans to watch these shows, but it's the casual viewer they are trying to get.

As for what PK said about Irvin not doing any analysis, he does do a lot of analysis on the espn show. His football analysis on defenses, formations, etc.. is pretty good when compared to other shows. Now if you want me to talk about when Dieon was on CBS , then I would probably lean more toward your argument.

Yea I do not get how Terry got brought up in this conversation? He can be obnoxious but I don't see the what that has to do with Irvin and the "me me me" mentality.

Because Bradshaw is self-effacing at times. Irvin never is. He still thinks he's the greatest thing since the polio vaccine. An arrogant dick.

Threatened? Hardly. Annoyed is more like it. Even when Irvin does offer the occasional informative morsel, which happens about as often as political pork spending is trimmed instead of expanded, it's always done in a fashion to draw attention to himself.

In other words, he's an arrogant asshole. But the biggest problem with Irvin is that he's starting to rub off on Jackson. Tom used to be a straightforward football guy, but now he's trying to be a bit more showbiz like Irvin, and I hate that.

ESPN's NFL shows never were better than when it was just Berman and Jackson. Berman, Jackson and Robin Roberts were superb, and Sterling Sharpe also was excellent. Steve Young is too much of a milquetoast and candy-ass, and Irvin is just Irvin -- a first-class ass.

Before my head explodes...

Irvin and Stu Scott together on screen during SportsCenter? Are they the Monday Night Countdown crew?

Irvin has the Cowboys in the playoffs, really? Shocking.

Did you know that if you give Drew Bledsoe all day in the pocket, he can complete a pass?

anyone see sportscenter this evening (before the pre-game show)? Was working at the time, but it sounded like there was a beef goin on between Irvin, Jackson, and Dan Patrick.

I caught bits of the aftermath I think. Sounded like Irvin jumped in and got noisy during one of Tom Jackson's segments, and both Patrick and Jackson scolded him for being unprofessional. If Irvin's 'colleagues' are already turning on him before the season has even started, I'm wondering if he is going to last much longer on ESPN. Then again, sounds like some people are loving his act, so perhaps they will keep him around. I find him intolerable, along with most of the NFL shows on TV these days.

Bradshaw may be a bit of blowhard, but he at least does a little bit of analysis in between verbal jousts with Jimmy Johnson and Howie Long. Irvin seems to have graduated from the Stephen A. Smith school of "talking loud but ain't saying s***". He is just one in a increasingly long line of annoying NFL broadcast personalities.

How about two years ago when Tom Jackson said Bill Belichick lost his team after week 2? The Patriots then went on to win the Super Bowl. On the field, Tom Jackson congratuled the all mighty Bill Belichick and Belichick said f*** you to him.
