I've probably been sacked twice total in the last 3 or 4 games online.

All I am saying is play anyone that blitzes a lot and you will get owned. You have no desire to play random games because you know you will get your ass kicked.bkrich83 wrote:Why would I do that. I played Gern11 today. He blitzed the house regularly. 1 sack, and I went 15/22 passing.Badgun wrote:All I am saying is play anyone that blitzes a lot and you will get owned. I faced a ton of blitzes. Not that difficult.

The passing cone may be a gimmick...and if it is...call me a gimmick lover because I think it's an incredible step in the right direct for video game football.
Badgun, if you don't want to put in the time to learn it, fine. I don't think that anyone will deny that it isn't for everyone as it clearly isn't. Just because you can't have success with the cone for whatever reason, doesn't mean no one else will (as BK is clearly showing).
The part of the cone that I absolutely love is the Pre-Snap reads. Sure, you can do that without the cone, but using the cone to make the correct read is a lot more satisfying to me than to just press the corresponding button for a particular receiver, even if he is on the other side of the field. Change the primary receiver on the fly is awesome...seeing a safety move over to double my primary and checking down to one of the secondary receivers before the snap and making the correct throw post-snap is just a thing of beauty.
Some can handle the concept and the complexity...some cannot. The first 4 games or so, I was getting sacked all over the place. Once it started clicking...the sacks all but vanished (the ones beyond the normal few per game anyway). Obviously 4 games is arbitrary because it may be 20 games for you, or it may be 1 game. I don't know, nor do I care. If you dont like it, fine...but calling it a gimmick is just wrong. It's a very functional piece of technology that deepens the game. I really don't think quoting guys from OS accomplishes anything either...you just found a few guys who agree with you. That doesn't change the fact that the cone can be very rewarding to some people...which is probably why EA bothered with it in the first place.

It will be 25 games for me, DB, but I appreciate the challenge and look forward to it!
Hey, some people called Hitter's Eye in MVP 2005 a gimmick. I f*cking loved it and thought it added a lot to the gameplay and entire experience.
If I like the Vision Cone, hell, there might even be a chance that Total Team Control in NASCAR 06 won't be the crock of sh*t that I think it might be.
Take care,
PK

I am sure it will take less than that.... Took me about 7 games, getting blown out every game. But I was trying TOO HARD to learn to use the cone (passing on every down). I decided to mix it up with some running plays, and sure enough, the passing game opened up (as it should), learning the cone become more rewarding, doing the pre-snap check and all. Plus, I think there is a learning curve in the running game as well (with the truck stick) that people don't talk about. I couldn't run for crap for the first few games but my last game I had Dillon over 100 yards (again, 6 min quarter in all pro against the Jets).pk500 wrote:It will be 25 games for me, DB, but I appreciate the challenge and look forward to it!

Well if it is a gimmick, then I am very happy about it. I love it and it has made me a Madden fan again.
I still miss my new 2k game this year, but at least my Madden enjoyment has been rebirthed.
For once, for me at least, it is fun for me to play this game on the current generation of consoles. It took six years but I am very happy with Madden this year.
Now if EA could only get the NHL series to be good again.

I think the best way to learn the new vision cone is to just go into practice mode for about 30 minutes. I turned automatic play select on for both the offense and defense, and just ran plays over and over until I felt comfortable with it. You could probably run 200 plays in a very short amount of time this way.

I'm not hard to find online, you somehow are even on my friends list. I must have been in a PK induced state that evening.
Just no using your cheeser kid under your handle please.

Yeah well, he is the one who brought his kid into the thread, what is funny is he still doesn;t get the irony of that post, plus we are suppsoe to believe when he said 5 straight bombs, he meant five fly patterns not five in a row.dbdynsty25 wrote:Like I said previously...

Cheeser son under your handle...classic.
Challenging me was a good move for him If i say no, then when he his getting his ass handed to him in these threads he can use the "you were too chicken to play me" defense.
I'm really looking forward to spending 40 minutes online with this asshat, who somehow thinks if he wins a game of madden against me it will justify all the stupid ass posts he makes here on a daily basis.

Like the thing that drives me nuts. Is there any way to TURN OFF the vision cone from the CPU when you are on defense.
I also found the guy who did the fan artwork for Madden 2006

I think that the two guys from OS whom Bad quoted are missing something with the cone. It does force an extra step into passing the ball but that's exactly the point. Let's simplify this a little. If a QB has a primary read wide right and his secondary read wide left he needs to first look right and if he's covered check down to the left and then make the throw. In the past we could look to the right and if covered just make the throw left with no penalty. This at least forces you to make the checkdown to avoid the accuracy penalty. Does that make sense or am I nuts?
Plus, the fact that they made swing passes to a running back pretty much immune from accuracy losses outside of the cone is an underrated feature. If you get a heavy blitz and need to throw a hot route to your back you don't need to move the cone to do it. I would recomment having a hot route on the same side as your primary read to help with that as well.

My impression of Madden so far: I really really like it. Good stuff.
Like the cone, but even more importantly, I like the way the pocket works this year. 90% of the time I can let the QB take his steps while I scan the receivers, and keep my thumb off the left stick. (Until I throw - and I really like the way precision passing works too.)

I see myself sticking with ESPN 2K5 until we get an idea what Madden for the 360 looks like.
