Just picked up WE 8 (very lately, but I'm pokered out after playing a ton of hands online this summer) and I am really loving it. This game puts WE 7 to shame, which was a letdown to me. It's an updated WE 6 with all the little things that game is missing.
One question: Can you turn the radar off? I know I'm in the minority but I prefer the radar off, I like to think of it as myself on the field, I don't want to use the radar as a technique of knowing where players are.
Also, any tips for the ML with the scrubs? Any early transfers I should get?
Thanks.

For me it's top, bottom, or translucent, which still has it on the screen. I've blocked it out now so it's all good.bdoughty wrote:In the menu settings during a match (after hitting pause) go to "Screen Settings" you can adjust all on-screen items. The radar can be moved to the top or removed all-together if I recall correctly.
why would you not want the radar? In real soccer, you see the whole field. it's unrealistic not to be able to see where everyone is. I don't get it.
on starting ML, I never start with the scrubs. they're not real, so screw them. you can start in D1 with the real players with a team. if you prefer a challenge, play with real players from a crap team, then upgrade accordingly.
but with all preferences, to each his own.

I couldn't tell you any specific guys to find (there are a lot more players in WE8 than in 6 or 7), but I can suggest a few things. One thing is using the trade option instead of a regular transfer. This is something I never used to do before WE8, but since the default scrubs are relatively overvalued, you can get good, younger guys in trade without shelling out too many points.FloridaGators wrote:To each his own, I like the whole ML scrub idea from WE 6 so I'll continue it.
Is DougB or Macca or any other old school WE vet out there and can help me with some good transfers to add to my scrub squad?
The other thing to do early on is get the 17 year olds when they are still free and develop them. Search 'by team' and look for a team called 'unbelonging.' Those are the guys available for free transfer; note this is different than the team called 'other' which is all the players for whom you'd still have to pay a transfer fee to get, even though they're not on any team in the ML's four +1 divisions. Most of these 'unbelonging' 17 year olds will need some seasoning before they are really good, but I found a few who were better right away than the default stiffs, and only got better with the major minutes I was giving them. There are a core of 3 guys I got this way at the end of the first season that are still with my team now in 2010 and are awesome. Occoasionally there are a handful of veterans in the 'unbelonging' group.
Also, note than any classic players, either from the all-time teams or the others in the list (you can buy classic teams and players in the WE shop), will show up in your ML in the off-season transfer period at the end of that year during which you bought or unlocked them. That is, if you're using an option file that already has them all unlocked, they should be all 17 year olds at the start of your ML. These guys can be gotten for nothing more than salary for at least a year. I like to unlock them little by little over the years.
One more thing: retired players will be reincarnated as 17 year olds in some future year. The number of years between a player retiring and being reborn is random, so it might be right away (as it was for the DiLivio I got), or after many years. I don't know if these reincarnated players are carbon copies of their retired selves, but with the player progression thing going on, no matter what you do you have at least some impact on how they develop.
Hope that helps!
