from someone that use to mod there, I know why.. but can't put it in words..

There are some things you will never understand until you mod a forum with 20k users and over 1 million posts - one thing I learned that I can put in words is its most likely something I will never do again.

Hmm can I get the cliff notes version? I have no access to the OS forums to see what you guys are talking about. Hopefully it's a fat joke, those are funny!

Me? I don't think so. I am pretty sure all the time I spent helping grow OS would outweigh my momentary sanity loss and my personal desire to be stricken from there forever. Like Bdunn said until you have been in that kind of enviorment, put in the countless hours of time (for free and that is not including donations to help Steve pay for the site) only to be thanked by banned users threateneing lawsuits, morinc teenagers, etc, etc. Well thankless would be an understatement. Even more thankless is doing all that plus posting the news day in and day out with only the occasional thanks. Next time you read OS just think about Steve who has been doing it almost daily for 5 or so years.

BD- Here is some highlights, nothing major was said.

OP Choad Thread Title Remember BDoughty

"I think he left/or was banned a few years ago - i think i remember he had some sort of meltdown and then there were other sports gaming sites who would talk crap about him because he banned them from OS - some stuff like that. I just remember he was really stern and would ban anyone for any reason. Remember?"

Few people you must have banned saying they were your victums.

Then this from a guy with a grren name (mod?)

SportsmanTO

"Is there a need to talk about bditty? This is just so random it isn't funny.

Anywho I think he was a good mod for the most part just a bit strict."

Heelfan puts up a Jabba the Hut picture???

Clay_OS
"Actually, I mentioned him yesterday in the Madden Forum."

Some cracks about the Olsen twins and you showing a body part.

For the mopst part people asking where is this coming from? Why start this thread etc.

Overall nothing too exciting, hope that helps you out.

bdunn, bdoughty, and the rest of the OS mods who post here: I'm amazed you guys were able to moderate those boards without losing your s*** and going on a tri-killing spree.

Don't get me wrong -- OS is one of the best communities I've seen on the Web. It's the place I always turn to first for things like previews and slider talk, and it's a testament to the work of Steve and the mods. But its popularity and subject matter just naturally attracts a lot of kiddies, some of whom haven't learned how to adjust to their gonads dropping (or are frustrated that they haven't).

Anyway, I am also glad you guys post here, you all help contribute to the cool vibe of DSP. In fact, I can't think of an OS mod I've ever had an issue with -- even when I've disagreed with them, every mod I've interacted with has been petty thoughtful and mature (or at least funny in Brent's case :D )

bd, you and I had our share of run-ins at OS and you banned me at least twice. I have never harbored any ill feelings about that and consider you to be one of the better posters here at DSP. Most all of your posts are informative and/or interesting and you are a valued part of the DSP community.

Bandgun I honestly do not recall banning you or most people for that matter. I am sure I did but there were so many it all became a haze (plus to be fair I was not the only one who banned people - I just got credit for all of them). Everyone started to remind me of Baseball Guru (and his 40,000 other screen names) which to this day I still consider my greatest conquest, proving that he did work for Acclaim. :)

Some people do get over it. Look at me and Jackdog. He had me once pegged for Hitlers younger brother and now we get along famously. There is just no way around moderating OS and being a good guy, yet still do the task at hand. If you want to be everybodys friend you might as well let the inmates run the prison. That is the great thing about DSP. The youth that posts here is limited which is a very big plus.

I've always heard nothing but negative things about BDoughty on OS.

Fact is, I think I registered a wee bit too late to remember anything imfamous that you did (allegedly).

I heard of DSP through PM's of me wanting to know what all these "DSP references" were.

What I love the most about this place is the age level of most of its members, hardly much youth here, and sometimes thats a great thing.

So many minor subjects get locked within seconds over at OS, I love talking about things here that would never last at OS, they are both great places.

EDIT- My bad, forgot to add that I do too as well enjoy your posts bro (even though you are a sooner fan). :P

Well it is kind of typical of gamers who post on forums. They tend to concentrate on the negative and rarely mention the positive. Things have changed as the ZXLT guy who locked the thread and posted before you is apparently a moderator at OS? I have never heard that name so I must be getting old.

Well, I figured I'd put my 2 cents in on this topic. I wasn't sure what to make of Brent by some of the posts he made here in the past, but after doing some work with him on my site, I have nothing but good things to say about him. He gave me alot of great ideas, posted a ton of information and was easy to get along with. He's also a nice guy when you get to know him.

Outside of his disdain for Rob Zombie as a director I love the guy. If I ever make it to Lubbock, Texas I'm taking him out on a date and buying him the BIG tub of popcorn. If he plays his cards right he just might be getting some that night.

I browse the OS boards more than I post on them and I always remember seeing people Brent banned bitching up a storm. A lot of them ended up coming over to DSP and trying to get us all to bad talk OS. When that didn't happen they would usually just fade away into oblivion.

I respect anyone who has ever modded over at OS as that is something I would never want to do. Those guys have a high tolerance for bs.

Brent, you've always been cool in my book and I appreciate the obscure links you post since I would never find those on my own.
I am a patient boy.

Regarding locked threads, disgruntled users etc, unless you've ever had to mod a forum like that, you have no idea.

When I left the staff at OS, it was like a giant weight was lifted from my shoulders. It truly does wear on you.
