Quick NCAA Football '06 Question

Post by K_Mosley »

What quarter length are you using? I noticed Jistic uses 9 minutes for his sliders. I just tried them last night, and had a pretty good game. I'm only using 7 min. quarters, though...

Does the quarter length affect the sim stats? I've noticed how inflated some of the numbers are for the stat leaders, and how high a lot of the scores are. Do you have to use 5 minute quarters to get realistic sim stats? It's almost NFL Fever-esque. I am going to try the "sim engine fix" from OS tonight.

Thanks,

Kevin

I use 8 minutes in every football game. Works well for me and my minimal slider edits.

I have another question. Are you guys turning off the homefield advantage (shake camera option) or keeping it on? I thought the option was pretty cool the first couple times I played with it, but after I played it a few more times I turned it off. It seemed to me that it was giving too much of an advantage to the home team. Whenever I played on the road at a noisy stadium, my receivers can't catch, the A.I. defense activates crystall ball mode, and my running backs get fumble fingers. Anyway, I was just curious what you guys thought about home field advantage.

Thanks

I use 7 minute quarters.

I have the "shake" camera off, but have homefield advantage on. I may turn it off though as I do think it is overdone.

I finally gave up on HFA as well. To me it seems to completely unbalance the game for all the reasons stated above. It's a nice idea, but the day EA Sports meets a good idea it can't bungle is the dayI'll have universal praise of rone of ther games. :)

I had been going with seven minute quarters but I really only get about an hour each night to play the game (if that) and with no option to save I ended up going down to six minutes just to speed things up a bit. The play counts and such aren't very good, but the scores generally come out about where I'd expect.

I ditched HFA last year and don't use it this year.
I only wish you could turn off Impact Player-it really is overdone and in a lot of instances ruins the game for me.

I leave everything turned on, I guess it works good for varsity. I play 5 min quarters, not really a big stats freak, number of plays ran is not important. I like default varsity, it's just right for my skill level with lots of fun games. I use UNLV, sure I blow away easy teams, but I have real close games against the better (top) teams. Seems that the lower teams play much better in big games, tournament games towards the end of the season. I'm really liking this game, guess I'm the kind of gamer EA caters to?

I was using seven minutes with Jistic's Version 3 sliders, HFA turned on. But I wasn't getting enough plays by both teams to satisfy my need for realism, as there are about 140 offensive plays combined in the average NCAA game, according to some stats I found the other night on the Web.

Now I'm using nine minutes with Jistic's Version 4 sliders, Varsity, HFA turned on. I'm as happy as I've ever been with a football game, college or pro. I haven't been this hooked on a football game in a long, long time.

Take care,
PK

PK,
Where'd you find those stats? 70 plays per team on average? I've never really given it much thought, but that does seem like a lot to me.

Here is a link that may help

http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb2003/Internet ... rends.html

Click on the 2nd to last link entitled "Conference #1"

Its a PDF file that breaks down the average # of offensive plays from each conference.

Hope that helps

Here's the same document, but for the 2004 season:

http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/Internet/tre ... nf%201.pdf

Teams averaged 70.2 offensive plays per game last year in NCAA Division I-A football. That's how I devised 140 total plays per game. I'm a rocket scientist, I know. ;)

That's crazy talk! Wow, good info fellas. Like I said, I never really paid attention to it, but I never in a million years would have guess that many. I would have said 50 tops.

Thanks for the links!
