Unfortuantely consumers have no idea what is forced on the EB/Gamestop manager/employees by their DM's and higher up's. Especially those who have never worked in retail (lucky SOB's) The preorder thing is not a big deal to me. You either say yes or no. Just don't come in complaining that EB won't sell you a game when you passed on the preorder and they only got enough to cover perorders. It is how they determine how many copies each store gets. On tthe bright side once they get the merger going you will probably get to add, "selling magazines" to your job description. Just make sure and not take any home. That is a big no-no at the house of G.
with such a big game i'm sure anyone can use last years numbers as a guide for how much to order. monday at midnight a total number should be known, the number ordered would also be known, all the extra put on the shelf to sell to anybody. what is so hard about??? but saying that only pre-orders will be sold is crazy if they have extra copies on hand, to me its just a way to push pre-order numbers. not a big deal either pre it or not, but i think the concept is just a turn off, i never pre-order games, for all the times i have i found there was no need to.[/quote]

I think the main advantage GS and EB had over BB, Wal Mart, Target or any of the other general discount chains was getting the games and other products earlier, right at release day. It sounds like they no longer let you return opened games.

Typically, the chains would sometimes offer discounts or gift cards but they wouldn't have the game until the Wednesday or Thursday of release week.

But with NCAA 2006, the chains seemed to have it at release date. Frys had it for $37.99 on release date as well.

So that's probably part of the reason they try to get you to preorder, so that you're less likely to look for it elsewhere.

Yeah, I think EB and GS are losing their competitive advantage. Best Buy and Circuit City routinely have the game on the same day as them around here. The most you would have to wait is one extra day. Plus, when you buy at Best Buy or Circuit City you will either get a "deal" on the purchase date ($10 gift card) or will be covered under price protection for 30 days.

The specialty stores are still good for pre-ordering the less popular niche titles, but you can get most major new realeases at Best Buy or CC the day after it is released.

If this is about some Cal Ripken-esque streak issue with not pre-ordering then give $5 to a friend and have them do it for you. Problem solved, you can pick up the game at Midnight.

Madden is $39.99 next week (PS2/Xbox/GCN/NDS) at Circuit City.

I am going to rent it first and see if I like the gameplay. If I do, I will get it used or cheap or something.

Ah, I wasn't a X-Files fan.

I guess the comment was over my head, and under my feet.
