Madden 2006 - Purchase, Rental or Wait
Just seeing what everyone was doing. I have Madden 2006 reserved but I am thinking of holding off and seeing early reviews around here. If there is not alot changed then I will stick with NCAA 2006/NFL 2K5 and updated rosters. Holding out for the next gen version of 2006.

Just when I thought I would save money on football games this year since there is only 1, I'm not. I have the Xbox version reserved and will pick it up Monday at midnight. I will get the PSP version as portable PS2-quality football was one of the big reasons I picked one up. I will also get the 360 version. I really want to check out this Field Vision system.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I'll bite on the PSP version of Madden (hopefully I can hold off for a used copy so as not to put any $$$ in the EA coffers), but I'm definitely passing on the console versions. No way I'd pay $50 for what looks to be another year of minimal improvements from the Tiburon team.
If I was really interested in selecting the DNA of my created player's parents, then maybe it would be a different story. (Still don't know what the hell they were thinking.)

Rental. I'm pleased as hell with NCAA 06 and am having as much fun with it as any football game I've ever owned.
I really have no desire to own Madden 06 since NCAA 06 is so much fun and offers so much variety with more teams, different playbooks, play styles, etc. Plus the Field Vision thing in Madden appears suspect or overly complex to my aging reflexes.
I'll rent Madden. I was planning to get Madden 06 with the Xbox 360 upon release, but I'm not getting an Xbox 360 until at least next spring since TOCA 3 is an Xbox-only game due in the spring. If it's reverse-compatible, then maybe I'll get an Xbox 360 sooner. If not, TOCA 3 has that much pull with me to keep me from switching to 360.
So this could be my first fall without a pro football game since I lived on and loved NCAA 99. Not really too concerned, as I LOVE NCAA 06. It's all I'm playing now besides Rivals Poker Nights.
Take care,
PK

I will buy it... NCAA is freaking great this year.. I am having a blast playing online(prob around 30 games so far but not nearly as many as B00M).. and offline as well...
To me the best part of Madden is the offseason so I am looking forward to importing MY draft classes(i know you can download them, but using your own is much better).
Also, for those waiting on the 360 version, I would expect for the game to be stripped down majorly. It should include a new gaming engine and new everything else. Don't be suprised if the game has a weak franchise mode.

I will just be happy if they remember to put helmets on the players. Yes with EA we have already come to expect a stripped down game. Tiger Woods 360 only having 6 courses and how they handled the PS2 launch tiles were an early tip-off. For me the gameplay and graphics are my priorities, far ahead of dynasties and franchises. Also, for those waiting on the 360 version, I would expect for the game to be stripped down majorly. Give me good online play and that's all I ask and need. I haven't really played franchise / dynsasty since the online revolution of NFL 2K1Also, for those waiting on the 360 version, I would expect for the game to be stripped down majorly. i'll be picking it up, why not? Been playing the series since the Genesis days.
I've embraced the 2k series in its time. It's over with for a while. I've still enjoyed Madden for the most part, so again, why not?

I have found my willpower. I will rent it at some point just to be able to say I tried it out, but I cannot see buying it. Slight upgrades along with a vision cone I won't be able to handle (old age thing) and Barbie-esque superstar mode (choosing DNA? I thought this was football?!?) do not interest me.
I've had NCAA '06 on the shelf for over a week now as I've been busy with Moto GP2, MVP, and rediscovering 2k5. NCAA & 2k5 will be plenty to keep my football urges satisfied this season.

MattK makes a good point when he mentions Moto GP 2 because once Moto GP 3 ships at the end of this month, I wouldn't want to play Madden or damn near any other game if MGP 3 is half as good as I hope it is.
