Comical reading...indeed. Man, I get back from lunch and it's like a freakin' civil war broke out in here.
LOL. I was just bored at work today

I truly don't think all Cardinals' fans are arrogant, although I will indeed be rooting against them.

I'm not upset with anyone and I apologize if I upset anyone. I guess the tough NL Central rivalries got the best of me...LOL.
Ok, ok. I'm sorry for namecalling. It really doesn't take much for me to get going in a flame war. I apoligize to you and HouOilers for taking the lowest road I could find.

In other MLB news, I'm hearing the Phillies shipped Placido Polanco to the Tigers for Ugie Urbina and Ramon Martinez.

Wow, this thread blew up in the past few hours!

I'd just like to add that The Cardinals, Astros, Cubs, Reds, and Pirates all suck!! Go Brewers ;)

Now before I incite any riots, are there any Yankees fans actively browsing this thread? 'Cause after tonight I may feel the urge to post a brrom pic after the Brewers sweep the Yanks. Just the thought of it makes my giddy ;)

Discalimer: The above post contains not one, but two winks. The author of this post sincerely hopes that these emoticons are taken into consideration when evaluating the tone of this post.

Bout time...they needed to get Chase Utley in the lineup every day.

Yeah, Utley reminds me of a young Jeff Kent. As for Polanco, I didn't want to see him leave. I would have rather had him at third base, and ship Bell, but nobody wants Bell's sorry ass.

With our bullpen struggles, and the need to have Utley in the lineup every day, this deal was a no-brainer.

Kills my fantasy team. I was really hoping Urbina would go to a team that needs a closer. I was really surprised the Cardinals did not end up with Polanco during the off season. St. Louis fans would have loved to have him back.

Funny thing is, there was a report today of Urbina asking Trammell to move him back to his setup role, and let Percival close. Then, hours later, there's a report that he was traded to the Phillies.

I'm sure it has no significance, just ironic. Urbina gives the Phillies a reliable setup man that they desperately needed.

Any local rumors about what really happened to Tim Worrell? If Worrell was still playing, the Phils wouldn't need Urbina.

I think it's a good trade for both teams but I gotta think the Tigers could have done better than Polanco closer to the deadline.

I've heard nothing recently about Worrell. He had been awful this year, but whatever the problem was, they've done a good job concealing it.

There's no doubt in my mind that the Tigers could have made out better if they waited. However, they may still consider themselves a possible playoff team, and with the White Sox and Twins running away from them, they needed to make a move. Just a thought.

First of all Tjung is thrilled to be almost 39 years old and have the ability to still stir it up! Secondly...my original post was sort of Tongue in cheek and I think a few people here took it the wrong way. Thirdly everybody can say what they want about Cardinal fans in general but it's been said that Cardinal fans are truly the best baseball fans in the world. I don't know why or how...but it's true. Players, reporters, and MLB honchos will tell you the same thing....except maybe Tino Martinez! Cardinal fans are confident about our team, nothing more, nothing less. I merely made the original post because the Cardinals were playing so well while the rest of the division was playing so poorly. I said it before the season started that the Cubs and Astros were overrated and so far I stand correct in that assumption.
By the way...the first two words in my original post were "just kidding"

Count me as another Cardinals fan who would've loved to have seen them bring Polanco back. The guy can play anywhere in the infield (I think LaRussa even played him at first a couple of times...the smallest first baseman I've ever seen.) Not sure what's up with Polanco's head though...it's like a square.

I second that good luck -- glad to hear you're working on a novel and script, tjung. Although I pity everyone else who has the writing bug -- it's a blessing and a curse.

No broom picture today. I figured Wells would go out and pitch a gem. That's one guy I would love to have on the team. He's always been a gamer in my eyes.

I have Yankees - Cardinals tickets for tomorrow's game!!

It's a virus, and Urbina's caught it. We've been winning games lately, but instead of winning big, our bullpen is making it too close. Eventually, we're going to get burnt.

I won't pass judgement after one game, but like you said....not a good start.

HouOilers wrote:So it's 104 wins now instead of 105? LOL :)

I think you can drop the 104/105 win pipe dream. The cards have a losing record vs teams with winning records and their going to have to play a tougher schedule than they did in may.

This thread should be renamed 'Baseball 101 : pennants aren't won in May'.

As for the cubs, if they continue to play like this, it won't really matter where they are with the cards in the NLC in september. Theyll probably win the WC. That would be interesting to see, a cubs-cards NLCS if both teams get that far.
So now that the Cubs are tied for second with your Astros, just a mere 12.5 games back, are you still looking for the Cubs to win the WC. Heck, even you counted the Astros out. Looks like that seven game win streak didn't mean all that much.

BTW, the Cards have been slipping lately. Their pace is now down to just 103 games. :P

I brought this thread back so I wouldn't have to start a new one.

Anyway, I wondered if a box score ever looked like this.

From tonights Arizona/Atlanta game:

Top 7th: Atlanta
- J. Franco doubled to deep center, A. Jones scored
- J. Francoeur doubled to deep right center, J. Franco scored

Check out the similarity in those names. Elias S.B. will love this.
