World of Warcraft Updates...
Moderators: Bill_Abner, ScoopBrady
I was ready for a change. Was getting a bit bored of WoW ( have a few characters, highest one is L31 paladin).
However, SOE released a Star Wars Galaxies "Combat Upgrade" changing the system the game is based on. Tcrouch was commenting on how he liked it, and I read about it to see what the changes were. Decided to try it.
So for now, I've temporarily cancelled my WoW account and am trying this new Star Wars Galaxies thing. I reactivated my old Star Wars Galaxies account to check it out.
I don't want to be paying 2 monthly fees at once so I had to cancel WoW while starting SWG. So far I like it.

I haven't played WOW in almost 2 months, I haven't canceled my account however, may do that tonight.
I've been playing Guild Wars, which is ok. It has an addicting quality to it, but it is not an MMORPG. As soon as you leave a town or city, everything is instanced, so if you leave a town and go into the countryside it is you anyone you have partied with and monsters and npc's. This works out if you can find people to group with who are normal. But to give you an idea of the average age of the GW player, I was asked to dance 8 times last night.
Personally I think I am going back to EQ2 for a while, they have made a number of improvements I hear, including a mentoring system similar to COH. I just want to find one to tide me over to Auto Assault.
WOW is still the best MMO I've ever played, but they haven't done enough to add new content. Pewrsonally I have no interest in Battlegrounds, if I want that kind of game I will play an FPS.

Im curious Danimal, what level are you? I've been level 60 for awhile and have not done a lot of the content still. There is so much to strive for yet for me, started mining/blacksmithing...do high level instances and raids, then there are the major 40 man raids. This all on the Horde side, have to try out Alliance side as well. A sh1t load to yet and ive had the game for 5 months.

My windrunner guy got to 20+
I had a thief at 32.
Raids do not interest me, I know that this fits in with the game world Mythos. So Raids and Battlegrounds etc fit in perfectly to the world. Me, I look for a game where I can go into Dungeons. Since the invention of the instanced Dungeon, things have changed. You are forced to group to do them. So if you have a hectic schedule like me, you either have to team up with some random people (always fun) because you can't keep up with your friends who play constantly.
I have what 100 levels of charcter in WOW I entered one dungeon, the dead mines. All my guild mates were too high level or too busy to even go into a low level instance etc. I don't blame them for it either but I hate that I am forced to group to do these things.
Although I still think WOW is the best MMO game ever, It still couldn't duplicate my first MMO experience on Asherons Call. There were so many freaking dungeons in that game, you could routinely wander into the wilderness for hours and stumble acroos dungeons and crypts that no one was at and probably had yet to see. My small group would have a blast playing this game. Ah good times.
I think that is what it boils down to for me. While WOW is a great game. I find a better sense of teamwork and a more mature player in EQ2 (granted from my very limited play time) than I do in WOW, or GW.
Maybe I will give it a go tonight, 2 months off the game might give me that magical feeling I had for the first 30-45 days.
Sorry for the ramble of a post.

I know the feeling, some of the accomplishments are definitely the most rewarding i have ever had in any game. To be honest, nothing has even come close. Big-time rewarding. I was the first on my server to get sell a Arcanite Champion and Arcanite Reaper in the auctin house...that was pretty cool. Getting my mount and then my epic mount was ace too.Just got my Warlock up to 40 this past weekend on Llane. I think picking up my mount was my single biggest video game accomplishment to date. Sure felt that way at least...hugely rewarding.
Danimal, doing 5 man ( or 10 man) instances like Strat, Sunken Temple, Dire Maul, Scholomance, UBRS & LBRS takes awesome teamwork to complete....great times ive had in these. Give it another try and try to get into these area's man. Fun fun sh1t.
Damn, I already joined the Horde because a buddy of mine told me to. Maybe I'll switch over tonight...I only did one quest last night so Im not far into the game by any means. I'll keep you posted.pigpen81 wrote:Doby, make sure to get on Windrunner server.
Also, join the alliance.(Dwark, Human, Elf, Gnome)
Have fun!
hit 57 last night after taking a week off from it. My goal is to hit 60, but at my level, it's hard to find something to do that holds my attention for more than 30 minutes. I despise instances, don't like grouping, and don't much care for PVP.
I really enjoyed the game when I was doing quests and leveling without really paying attention. Now it seems that grinding is the only way to level.

Sounds like you need a single player game Badgun. Level 60 is no more levelling but i have more to do now then when i was levelling. Get some goals and try to achieve them. I do not know why you dont like Instances, they are seriously some fun s***.
Why is everyone Alliance? The Horde side is where it's at boys.

Grog, or anyone else for that matter, have you guys heard about anybody on WOW stealing accounts/credit card numbers and using them to purchase WOW items from IGE.com?
My two young sons have been playing WOW for a few months and I paid for their monthly services using a credit card. I noticed on my last bill that someone purchased WOW items off of IGE.com without my authorization. Every 4 days a new purchase was made until I cancelled my credit card. I called IGE.com and they said they confirmed the sale was made by the credit card owner via a phone number that I'd never heard of.
I have my credit card fraud protection company looking into it now but I am wondering if you guys heard of anything like this happening to anyone else?
Thanks.

Been in about 4 instances total since I started playing. Several reasons I don't like them. First of all, it takes forever to get going. When someone asks me to come to an instance, I usually hearthstone back to Ironforge and take whatever flight paths I need to get me there. Once I get there, you might see a few others show up shortly thereafter, but there is always the obligatory guy that just has to go and get his armor repaired or sell stuff, or help a friend for a minute which usually has me sitting and waiting for up to 30 minutes. When someone calls me to an instance, I feel obligated to get there as quick as I can...obviously a lot of other people don't.
Then there are the loot rules, which for some reason, always have me getting screwed. I NEVER roll on anything that I either don't need or can't use, even daggers which I can use, but have you ever seen a druid use a dagger? I see the absolute worst come out in people in instances when it comes to loot. I've seen level 60 priests roll on staves that aren't as good as what they are using when it was better than what I had. I will always pass on something if what I have is better or if it is an upgrade over something someone else is using.
Bad experiences with loot whores and people in general not having any respect for someone else's time has made me swear off instances and big groups forever. Went to Scholomance with my own guild and one of the idiots hearthstoned out to go repair his armor when we were about 3/4th of the way through. Then the idiot didn't have a key to get back in so we had to wait while he took the various flight paths back and someone had to let him in. In Everquest, that idiot would have been booted from the guild immediately. If you're going to play the high end game, then you at least should have a brain.
I love the game, I just hate what the game does to a lot of people. And I don't have time to weed through and find the good people. Maybe one day I'll get lucky.
As for why no one plays the horde, basically for me it was a matter of ugly versus pretty. All the horde zones are barren and brown with the same old landscape all the time...the alliance zones are all lush and green and so much more alive. I get depressed everytime I see the Barrens or pretty much any other horde area.

Hoser, ive never heard of that yet, damn..better check my credit card.
Badgun, i've found for myself that i have a bunch of level 60's i can party with on a regular basis....every night in fact. My son who plays an alliance character (level 52 paladin) is always commenting on how much better behaved and organized the horde is compared to alliance. I think on most servers the alliance/horde ratio is 3/1.
In general, it takes us 20 minutes to get up and running and in an instance. If we find a loot whore, he doesnt come again and he will be hard pressed to find another group...period.
For example, a player named Boagrious (wariior) came with a group of us into Strat...10 man raid to get to the Baron. He didnt listen well and since i was main tank and pulling the mobs it was pissing me off. i had to leave mid way and pick up my dautghter so i left for 10 mins and my son took over while i was gone...Boagrious became MT. he wiped the whole group on first pull which is not a bad thing but what takes the cake is that when we finally get to the Baron....he runs into building ...doors close...game over...no one fights the end boss.
Chaos follows. Everone is yelling at him, he gets blacklisted. two days later he contacts me and wants to apologize. Apparently, it was his first big raid and was embarrassed to tell us. No one on Horde side will go with him to any high level instances because word had spread. We did make up after he admitted he had no idea what he had done, learned a pretty good lesson. Now that i think about it he was the dude who bought my first Arcanite reaper off me for 1500 gold
Man...what the hell am i rambling about? Before the raid even starts we all go through loot rules quickly so 90 % of the time all is well. I really do believe that in general the Horde side is much better to instance with. Got to find a core group and believe me there are a lot of good people out there.
I sure hear what you are saying though but you need to find the right people. More alliance = more idiots
Also, when u gain high level, all area's are open so i go where i want basically. I love the horde atmosphere, being bad is fun.

I haven't touched it in months. Who needs to spend all their spare time levelling and worrying about loot...f*** it! Who am I kidding? I'm an addict. I didn't mean to become one. I was just using the game recreationally at first, a level here a level there. Now I'm at 57 and thinking about the game when I'm showering in morning. I'm about { } that far from going Korean and being found dead slumped over my keyboard, dead from trying another freaking' BRD run. I have trouble communicating in English now. I expect clients to know what I mean when I use analogies like, "That strategy just wouldn't yield enough DPS," or "Dude, don't be a ninja-looter." I think that the middle three fingers of my left hand have A-W-D imprinted on them.XXXIV wrote:Started getting into it again about a month ago when Rob hooked Me up with a pretty cool guild. Just hit lvl 58.
Games a blast!!!!!
Play it bitches.

Sorry. Go on back to arguing about Madden.
PS. Terry, are you playing on a pvp server? You are such a MMORPG junkie I can't believe that you've gone cold turkey.
PPS Web, a buddy of yours just joined our guild. Why don't you get back in?

Just fired it up again after a few months off.
My pally was boring, so I created a human mage on Windrunner named Xanoz. Sold off my pally stuff and e-mailed the gold over to Xanos.
So I'll be around on Windrunner again. Rob/XXXIV/pigpen and anyone else on Windrunner add me to your friends list.
Or if any of you want to start fresh on Horde side and play together I'm game to rolling a horde mage and going that route.
Who knows? I may not play for more than a month or so... I don't know, but I had fun last night with it. The break refreshed it for me.
Die kobold die!
Edit: char's name is "Xanoz" not "Xanos"
