OT: What are your tv vices?

Post by Badgun »

The "Lost" and "American Idol" threads got me to thinking about how much tv I do watch and which shows consume me. This past week has been finale week for a lot of shows that I watch and I couldn't be happier. Some nights were killing me watching tv from 8-11. Thankfully, now I can get more gaming and movies in at night now.

Anyway, here's a list of the shows that have had me hooked this season. I'd be interested in seeing what everyone else is hooked on as well.

Sunday:

The Simpsons
Family Guy
American Dad
Deadwood
Desperate Housewives
Grey's Anatomy

Monday:

24
CSI - Miami

Tuesday:

American Idol
House
NYPD Blue
The Shield

Wednesday:

American Idol
CSI - NY

Thursday:

Survivor
CSI
ER

Friday:

Third Watch

Sadly Third Watch and NYPD Blue have ran their last episodes and they were two of my most favorite shows to watch.

My favorite new shows are House and Grey's Anatomy, both medical shows.

The show I'm most ashamed to say I watch is Desperate Houswives, but it pulled me in and now I'm hooked.

My favorite show of all is Deadwood. Hard to believe it could get better, but it did. I loved it and can't wait for season 3.

Oddly enough, I don't watch sitcoms. As a matter of fact, I despise them. Seinfeld and Frasier are the only two I can even stomach anymore. Hopefully someday someone will come along and write another Seinfeld.

Holy sh*t, Bad, you watch a lot of TV!

Not including live or same-day sports telecasts, the only shows I watch weekly are "Lost" and "Fox Football Friday."

I hope Chappelle gets out of the funny farm soon so the third season of "Chappelle's Show" can air. Otherwise, there's nothing on TV that's even remotely funny, at least not my kind of humor. Shame that BBC America no longer shows re-runs of "The Office" or "Trailer Park Boys," two of the funniest shows I've seen on TV in a long time.

Take care,
PK

Sunday:
Blech

Monday:
24
Everybody Loves Raymond (I TiVo it while watching 24)

Tuesday:
NCIS (good grief; what a season-finale last night!)
House (formulaic as hell, but still my favorite new show)

Wednesday:
Lost (best popcorn show on TV)
The West Wing (it's been crap the last two seasons, but I can't seem to completely give up on it)

Thursday:
CSI (Vegas; I still enjoy it, but the novelty is long gone)

Friday:
Blech... oh wait, I did like Battlestar Galactica :)

Saturday:
Justice League Unlimited (Can't help myself. I love comic book superheroes.)

Misc:
- West Wing repeats (weeknights on Bravo; anything from the first four seasons)
- Any of the Hold 'em Poker shows (sidenote: I actually got to play Phil Hellmuth in a little mock-tourney at E3 this year and ended up folding what would have been a four-of-a-kind. Sometimes my poker skills are just the essence of suck.)
- Any of the major pro/college sports (god I miss the NHL playoffs)
- Pardon the Interruption (guilty pleasure)
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer (the occasional rerun on FX; when it was good, it was *good* :D )

Before this year I use to not watch much tv at all. But I got caught up with 24 and Lost this year since they were quality shows over the rest of the garbage on tv. I dont know how I got into watching AI weekly, but it's an entertaining show.

Those are pretty much the only shows I watch on tv these days.

oh I forgot about Robot Chicken. 15 minute show that comes on at midnight on Sunday night where they take action figures and do skits out of them. From the genius mind of Seth Green...great show. I tivo it every week.

PK, they are actually making a Trailer Park Boys movie. I saw seasons 1 and 3, but missed season 2.

As for me, Lost is my only regular TV vice. Got tired of 24 and The Simpsons, and I've seen all the Chappelle episodes at this point. I do watch the Daily Show when I can. Other than that, it's mostly sports and random things like the Breaking Vegas series on the History Channel, or snippets of movies I've already seen 50 times.

I will admit that I watched all 60 minutes of "Remaking Vince Neil."

Badgun,

I too was disappointed that NYPD Blue ended their run this year. The wife and I had really gotten into it the last four years. Talk about some fabulous acting along with some intense scenes. Law and Order has nothing on NYPD Blue. Nothing.

I'm also happy the tv season has come to a finale. Not that I watch as many shows as you, but still it takes up time during the week when you could be doing other things.

Here's what I Tivo on a frequent basis

King of Queens - Unfortunately, the shows are not as good as the first few seasons. Kinda corny jokes. Carrie needs to get pregnant and spruce up the story lines.

XPlay - I can watch the show in literally 2 minutes. There's hardly any games they review that interests me.

Judgement Day - For whatever reason, I don't mind the guys on the show too much. Again, I can watch the show in a matter of 5-10 minutes.

OC - I'm a sucker for teen drama. Damn 90210 did me in back in college. In any case, the story lines seem a bit rehashed, so I'm thinking this show only has a couple good seasons left. The dad on the show and Seth provide good comedy though.

ER - The docs on this show seem to get younger and younger, especially with Dr. Carter leaving. It's starting to resemble a frat scene. They need more tenure doctors.

Cops - I watch this show only when I'm in the mood. It's not often, but deadbeats make my life look fairly normal. I don't have it so bad.

King of the Hill - Most underrated show on tv. Better than the Simpsons IMO. The story lines aren't too far fetched, and it just hooks me in line and sinker whenever I start watching.

Desperate Housewives - My wife is more addicted to this show than I am. I enjoy it, but I'm afraid it's going to become too "Melrose Place" after another season or two. There's just so much that can happen in one neighborhood without it seeming too out there after a while.

sports and documentaries only.

I'm not much fun at water cooler discussions, unless the topic is weekend/midweek football (frequent) or programs featured on the History/Discovery/UK history channels (slightly less frequent...).

I also pride myself on never having seen a full episode of any soap opera or reality TV show.

Since I VERY rarely watch anything live (besides sports), here is what is on my TiVo 'regular' schedule:

1. King of Queens
2. Amazing Race
3. Dateline
4. 20/20
5. Dog: The Bounty Hunter
5. Airline
6. Intervention
7. Nanny 911
8. Supernanny
9. The Office
10. Any interesting looking HD programming since I have the HD DVR from Comcast.

I caught an episode of House last week, that is a pretty good show. Love the dry, sarcastic humor.

That line struck a chord with me. It seems like whenever we run across a TV show that I just flat hate, my wife is bound to fall in love with it. Charmed. The Nanny. Friends. Sabrina the Teenage Witch. God I hate those shows and she just can't get enough of them. I swear, Charmed in is on TV more than Law & Order!

Not to sound totally hypocritical from some of my previous statements about network tv...but...I enjoy SOME network TV, but I usually only watch w/ my girl.

Obviously Braves/Suns/Dolphins/Hurricanes and Coyotes (when there is hockey) will have the priority.

Other than that...the CSI's, House, Grey's Anatomy, the OC and Las Vegas are about all I'll watch on a semi-consistent basis. The one show that I will not miss...Malcolm In The Middle. It was just moved to Fridays next year...that is not a good sign.

Are you serious? It's another doctor show, but the lead dude is a complete sarcastic prick (maybe that's why I like it eh?) and they do a lot of work on really sick people that other hospitals can't find cures for. It's like advanced medicine or something. It's pretty good. It follows American Idol...so we caught it one time after AI and my girl got sucked in...I have to admit, it's pretty good.

Fox blanketed the MLB playoffs last year with promos for it. Remember "You're TALKING about SAVING a patient's LIFE". I guess they wasted their money since Spooky missed it.

Yeah, he's serious, and so am I.

If it wasn't for seeing a promo for the show once during a NASCAR telecast, I never would have known what the hell "House" is, either. There's absolutely nothing on FOX other than NASCAR and the NFL that interests me, and I don't read TV columns or listings as there's nothing on network TV that interests me outside of "Lost."

Some of you cats might be amazed at the number of top shows of which I've watched one or no episodes: "Friends," "24," "Raymond," "Family Guy," "Desperate Housewives," "Roseanne," "The Simpsons," "The Bachelor," "American Idol," "ER," "Malcolm," etc., etc. The list is endless for me. Name a top-rated sitcom or medical drama of the last 15 years, and chances are I've never watched it or watched it only once and thought it sucked.

In fact, I can think of only five network shows that I've watched for an entire season or more in the last 15 years: "Seinfeld," "Homicide," "The West Wing," first season of "Joe Millionaire" and "Lost." That's it.

Guess I'm a freak. :)

Take care,
PK
