OT: My E3 rant
OK people, sorry if this is just a rant that doesn't affect any of you but i have to get it off my chest. I'm completely ticked off today. Right now i should be at E3 checking out all the new consoles and all the new games. Instead, i'm at home doing nothing. A family friend promised me months ago that he would be able to get a ticket or two for me. He works for Teac and says that they get passes every year. Now here is the catch, as cool as this guy is (i really like the guy) he has had a history of drinking problems. Guess when he decided to have a 5 day relapse? Yup, this past week. Not until wednesday did he decide to get sober and actually make an effort to get some passes. He said he would let me know by thursday night if he could get any, but he didn't even call. The least he could do was call and let me know it didn't work out. I'm so pissed because of this. He should have been making an effort weeks ago, not the first day of the show. Sorry, i may sound selfish and all, but i've been so excited about this for such a long time. I've been dying to go to E3 for years and years and it looked like it was finally going to happen. OK, that's my rant.

Sorry to hear you were unable to attend. Would have loved to have heard your impressions of the atmosphere, the games, etc.
That said, it sounds like your friend needs some support. Even though you're upset, he's at a worse place in life right now. He could probably use your assistance. Hope he pulls through and sobers up.

Actually, my family has helped him a lot. My step mother has basically been the reason why he's not a total drunk all the time. He's ok most of the time but has these relapses. I personally am not close enough with him to feel comfortable really offering any kind of help. I really don't know what i could offer him. I'll leave that to my step mom and step siblings who know him much better.sportdan30 wrote:Sorry to hear you were unable to attend. That's actually what i would love to do, however I HAVE to see this on a massive screen with a packed house or i'll be disappointed. I need to make a 20 minute drive to see this at the theater i want, and who knows if tickets will be available. Plus everyone i know is busy and i would prefer to go with a friend. That being said, i've got nothing better to do so i might as well get my butt over there and try and get some tickets.Go see Star Wars man, it'll cheer you up:

Shoot I probably could have gotten a couple of tickets for peeps. I sort of wanted to go this year but it is really busy at work and the last time I went (3 years ago or so) I was pretty bored pretty fast. The only real E3 I liked was the one where some big videogame company had a bunch of trailers circled outside with a bar in the middle and some bands and a bunch of chicks dressed like schoolgirls (what is with that anyway). I basically hung there all day with a couple of chicks and got loaded.
E3's style has certainly changed in recent years for the worse. It is now all hype and no substance on the floor with all the info being taken care of with back-room meetings. You used to be able to approach each developer at their display to talk to the people who were working on the games. Now the floor is just a big commercial that you wade through and come out of with less information than you would have obtained if you spent the time on the internet instead.

E3 sucked.
Bunch of people making monkeys of themselves for a chance at a t-shirt or whatever.
The games were a bunch of sequels, re-hashes, and ripoffs.
The 2 new consoles weren't showing much, and what was there didn't look any better than today's top-end PC games.
Most of the big upcoming games were either behind 3+ hour lines or were only shown to the media.
The only reason I am glad I went is that I got to see some friends I hadn't seen in a while.
