PS3 Specs and Console Pic

Still hard to tell. I am sure it will come down to the developer houses as it always does. In my opinion the sony houses have been developing the better content with MS closing the gap. But now many more of the houses are cross releasing, making it a null point. But maybe the hardware again will segregate the development community. By any means it is a great time to be a gamer.

Well when the standard for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 is a High Definition Resolution (meaning widescreen) then you would have to think it will look just fine.
Not only is it STANDARD but if you read the specs it is capable of doing 1080P x 2. They have a mode where someone with two HD TV's can put them side to side and play one console on two TV's. Kind of like a sideways NDS.HipE wrote:That Killzone video is absolutely unbelievable, I was blown away watching it. And 1080p standard???
PS3 Release Date

Spring 2006
I wonder if it will release in Japan first or they try a partial worldwide launch to combat the Xbox?

I must say...this PS3 footage is very, very impressive, as are the specs. That controller is downright atrocious though. Will be interesting to see what microsoft throws out there now.
Oh yea..thanks for all the links BD.

bd you sure this is gameplay? Looks more like "replay" footage to me. It is pretty cool though. Look Ma! More than 6 cars on the track!bdoughty wrote:http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/driving/gra ... media.html

Now we know why polyphony digital still has s*** AI and zero online play in GT4... they were working on tech demos for E3 for GT5 instead of gameplay for GT4.

That is what the guy above says (near the middle). GT5 is obviously prerendered as it is replay footage. What he was refering to (and myself) were demos sections from games like Killzone 2 where it looked like in-game footage. Some companies have prerendered movies that look like it is in-game but in reality is not.

1080p sounds too good to be true.
Some people are let down by some of these specs., particularly the clock speed of the Cell (which had been demonstrated at 4.6Ghz), the lack of eDRAM in the GPU, the memory configuration (XDR is fast and expensive but the split pools may be more difficult for developers) and uncertainties about the bandwidth in various parts of the system.
Also, both MS and Sony are playing fast and loose with the Teraflops claims, mostly basing their figures on the GPUs. But ATI and nVidia has apparently been playing these games as well long before their work on consoles.
I wonder if Sony will really require 1080p. Especially for multiplatform games. For one thing, the installed base of 1080p is very minimal because 1080p displays will be very expensive for at least a couple more years.
The other problem is that 1080p displays have been designed around displaying film, meaning 24 frames per second. I think one of the LCD or plasma 1080p screens already on the market only accepts 1080i inputs and upscales it. So it's not clear if there are consumer displays capable of fully using 1080p sources.
Sony has a couple of very expensive 1080p displays but both are well over $10k. Doubtful they're going to move a lot of those. But maybe they're expecting 1080p displays to proliferate.
Only things which could feed such displays are Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. And maybe PS3.

1080p is simply the standard of the quality each game will have. It will scale down to the highest resolution your TV has, down to a standard non-HD TV that only does 480i.
They are doing it for the future, I am sure a couple years from now 1080p will be standard on most HDTV's. Sony is simply thinking ahead. If they required 1080p they would have a userbase equal to the Atari Jaguar.I wonder if Sony will really require 1080p. Especially for multiplatform games.
