I haven't gamed online since PGR2, but I plan on joining the fray on a fairly regular basis. Just remember NM156 is my Gamertag, so it's only me ;)

I only got to try it out for about 30 min. last night, but I do like it so far. MS's answer for GT4. I like the way it will move a car up in clases as it's been modified. It should keep things fair that way.

I've got volleyball tonight, but if I'm not too tired I'll try and hop on around 10PM CST tonight for a bit.

I just want to chime in on the assists/driving line discussion.

I think to start, we should ve very liberal about allowing whatever assists people feel they want to use to have fun. It doesn't bother me one bit if someone has all assists on and the line on while I do not. If someone consistently wins race after race after race with assists on, I would think that person would police himself, realize he has an advantage, and lower his assists. That's the DSP way.

However, I really don't think all assists on will give someone such a huge advantage that the races will be uncompetitive. I may be proven false at some time, but I would rather discover that for ourselves than just demand all assists off all the time. If we start a league or something, then we could stipulate rules, but for Poker Nights of free racing or even career mode, I think people should feel free to use whatever assists/aids they want.

As to the line, I used it in the later career mode session, and once I started to understand it, I really, really liked it. Like Bozo said in his review over at GameSpot, the biggest bonus of the line is that less careful or experienced drivers, or drivers on a new track, are better able to handle the tough turns with the line on, leading to much less corn-holing. Most DSP corn-holing is obviously not due to malisciousness, but more to not knowing the circuit well. With the line on, one is far less likely to make those bad mistakes. Having the line on doesn't by any means guarantee a quick time, but it should make all races and racers more competitive. Even with the line on, I was taking turns with a huge range of degrees of success. That is to say, I had plenty of room to improve my driving, even with the line on. But it kept me careful in the really tight turns that often lead to me going off until I really get to know the circuit. And I think after some time with it, one would start to ignore it, or see through it. Also, some circuits, like Silverstone, don't seem to have distance markers to the corners, which I really, really miss. So the line sort of mitigates that problem, pretty much eliminating it.

All this is to say, I think we should give the game a fair shot at using the new features and innovations the dev.s have come up with, before dismissing them out of hand. The bottom line is that in career mode, you get bonus points for driving with assists and the line off, so why should it matter to anyone else what you are doing? IMO it shouldn't matter at all. Again, if after a week or so we notice a huge advantage, then we can reassess. League races, I think we will stipulate rules and regulations, but for Poker Night fun, I think we should let people do what they want.

On another note, I think while IROC style, free-race races would be good for a league, I am starting to think career mode may be a better way to go. I think with the stringent class system (like with my Civic, the first Turbo on its own would have pushed the car to D1, but after doing the first level of engine, intake/exhaust etc. upgrades to get it to D1, that same first turbo kit will push to like B4 or something!), if we keep cars in the same class (like say have a D1 race night, or a C2 race night, etc.), then all my racing game dreams will come true: unique, individualistic cars, with differing characteristics that match with the driver. That is, my car may be better in the twisty bits, while yours has more punch on the straights. Overall, if they are in the same classification, they should be even, but within the circuit we will have bits I am better at, and other bits you are better at. It made for a s***-load of fun racing in career mode last night, with only lighty modified cars. I think it will be wonderfully deep, fair, and fun.

The only thing is, the 'career car' league races will probably have to be run in free-race mode, so we can set 'simulation' level damage. But I think that works (that is, I think you can select a car from your garage for free-race mode, though I'm not entirely sure).

Terry, I want to go into the buy/sell room with you so I can check out that sweet paint/decal job. Damn, but that thing looks like a hot race car! Also, I am very curious about tire and fuel on longer races, and really look forward to some 20minute, or even . . . Medium Length Races. Heck, one night we MUST do a Long Race at the 'ring, like say a 6 or 8 lapper!

Oh, and one more thing. I noticed you can d/l setups from the scoreboards. That's pretty cool. So far, I think the D class has only adjustable tire pressure. Any better-than-modified upgrades I think would push my car out of D-class. So, D-class could be a grea DSP league class = no setups to speak of.

Zeppo:

Very well said. As usual, you provide the perfect balance of common sense and smarts.

My personal problem with the line is that it causes me to aim low in steering, looking at the line, which anyone who has taken basic Drivers' Ed knows is not a good thing for smooth driving. Plus it prevents me from finding true visual cues on the track to use as braking points, which will be there whether the line is there or not. Again, it's my problem, not a global one, and it's why I prefer racing with the line off.

P.S.: Yeah, my high-speed swipe at you on the 'Ring last night was uncalled for. Sorry. But I was pissed at the world that race, f*cked up (shocker!) and delusional. I gave you the spot back in a rare show of sportsmanship, though. :)

Take care,
PK

I tend to agree with Zeppo that the racing line on leads to far less cornholing, and may also be why Terry wasn't seeing much of it in random rooms.

I just want the game to buy and sell cars. I have seen so many interesting paint jobs at forza central. It really does suck that you are not allowed to price your own car. Some people spend some serious time with them.

Ah kids and their console wars. :)

This one had to take some time

Unfortunately I was unable to get to Forza again until about 4:00am, so I missed everyone online. Sounds like it was good fun.

It is disappointing to me that it does not allow you to set the Assists for the whole field, or allow for some type of IROC style setup.

Of course the honor system works for the DSP races, but it seems like this should have been added for those that want to insure they are matching up at equal levels.

As good as the hotlap ranking and ghost seems to be, it does not appear to differentiate at all the assists that are used. It would have been nice to at least show what they were and allow you to filter the list, assist by assist.

This is nitpicking I know. So far I am very happy. I can't pull myself away from just driving laps around Road Atlanta.

I agree with PK that it is annoying that there is no cockpit or hood view, but I have come to accept this for most console racers. TOCA still has the best range of views for a console game.

Ok, so who is going to start the DSP Car Club and come up with a logo?

If you want to get someone's paint job, here is what you do. Whoever has the paint job needs to sell you their car. You then make a copy of it to the same make and model that you already have in your game. Then sell them their car back.

We could pay Terry to create some kick-ass DSP car club logo and then pass it around the whole group. Ok, that sounds lame but I like the paint job features of this game. I'm just not smart enough to figure out how to use the 100 available layers, shapes, and decals to make anything that looks good. I remember a cool site ifrom the MotoGP2 days that showed how to make all sorts of cool real-life adverts and paint jobs using its limited paintshop, so i figure there will be some pretty impressive paint jobs done for Forza as evidenced by the above screenshots.

Has anyone figured out how to download someone else's drivatar to race against offline?

Zep, you hit a great point about the differences between cars within classes--some will have great straight-line speed, others will corner better, etc.

Basically, I see it as a great simulation of the Speed World Challenge. We'll all have our favorite cars within groups and have them customized as we like with different upgrades (some could choose tires/suspension, others head straight for more HP) and individualized paint jobs.

Am I the only one here that really doesn't give a sh*t one way or another about driving aids?

I figure they can use whatever they want, I don't really care. My job is to beat them with what I choose to run. I choose to run with no driving aids, and in my mind, it doesn't matter what they're using, because they're hindering their full control over the car, and they'll be behind me soon enough.

Yeah, I don't really care. In fact, they are probably slower with all of the assists on anyway, so it's neither here nor there.

Not at all. I agree with you 100%. EDIT Well, except for the last part.

One neat thing I really like is that there are several paths to upgrade a car into a new class. So, taking a D4 to D1, or a D2 to C1 may be done in a variety of different ways. Maybe in the end there is one way that is best, or you can max out the upgrades on a car in a given class, but I think it's cool that, say, two Acura RSXs that are D1 may be a little bit different under the hood. Add to that the easy to use customization, not just the paint jobs, but the variety of bumpers and skirts and so on, and there is whole world of personality and variety in the game.

Ok, so I created a DSP Car Club. I called it Digit. Sports. For some reason, the game thinks something about 'digital sporstpage' is obscene or something.

Anyway I sent out a bunch of invites. You have to go into 'car club' in the career mode menu to find the invite. I figure at worst, it gives us a good way to look at stats.

Well, I can't say anything that hasn't been said before, but I'll just agree with it all......

I can't remember who's tag from here I have.... I think may Zep and PK. If you guys are playing and need someone to bring up the rear of the field, shoot me an invite.

Ace EZ

I have only played for an hour or two, so I only have a Focus SVT that's a little souped up, and I'm playing with the driving line on to learn the tracks.... but everything else is off.

I'll try to stay outta the way as it's been months since i've done any racing on Live..... and if I accidently bump you, I'll give you the position back!

Now, I'm going to play some more and practice up!

Good racin' gents. I figured since it's 1:40 am here, and that I spent the last 2 or 3 races appearing as the "whirling fuc*ing yellow Focus" that I'd head to bed and relieve PK of his headache. ;) I just needed some way to counteract that loud f-ing SAAB.......

Guess my Rogers connection went crappy or sumthing.......

It's a friggin' blast tho racing online! All i can say is if you have any remote interest in racing games and you don't have Forza.... get it!

I was going to hook up with some of you guys online tonight, but my racing skills are just as bad as they always have been. Decided to avoid causing any 20 car pileups.

Great game so far, really enjoying it. I personally blame Terry, and PK for getting me addicted to racing games.

As a none racing fan, I'm hoping for the best. I get bored with these games so I'll just save everyone from my ranting and just not post.

After watching F1 I wish we had a F1 car or an Indy car. That would have been sweet.

BTW how are the tracks. I haven't heard much regarding the fictional tracks.

JROD, I Am still new to the game, and fairly new to the racing genre. But I really am enjoying this game, I think you will too. Give it a shot on XBL.

I was on the fence on whether I was going to pick up Forza or not, but so far I am glad that I did. All in all, it seems to be a highly polished racer from both a gameplay and presentation perspective. I'm still getting used to the physics, and have mostly weaned myself of the assists at this point. I like the unforgiving driving model, it really forces you to concentrate and improve (plus helps get the less-careful drivers out of your way in most instances). The XBL integration is solid, although it would have been cool to be given the opportunity to tweak setups during load times (a la RSC2). Graphics are quite good with pretty car models, reflections, detailed tracks and environments. At this stage, I only have a few minor nitpicks:

- The menu system is somewhat unintuitive
- The music gets old real fast
- Griefers on XBL can park themselves in high traffic areas, blocking the way and damaging other drivers (they should be ghosted like PGR2)

After a few hours of online racing, I've managed to get my ELO into the 1400s, but I'm thinking I need to try and hook up with the DSP crew to get that knocked down a bit ;) Cheers.

I raced a few online races last night with 2 buddies (who are green rooks like me) and had a ball. I got an invite from a few guys here but didn't want to embarrass myself yet so I stayed away. I want to have a clue before I get dusted by the DSP boys. I'll definately be on this weekend :) Awesome game.

Purchased this game last night and only was able to play an hour before bed. So far, I'm pretty underwhelmed. I realize the sense of speed gets better as you move up in Classes, but right now I'm not having a whole lot of fun. Perhaps this game is too "sim" for me. I may go online this evening and see if that energizes the game for me. All the while playing last night, I had an urge to play Hot Shots Golf on the PSP.

Toca2 just feels as though it played better and not having to worry about upgrades was nice since I'm far from a motor head. I'd rather jog in place for two hours than watch a race on tv.

In any case, worse case scenario I can return the game for full credit in a couple weeks.
