Yep Links is far and away the better game in all aspects (except for the wardrobe department and amount of courses). To keep the game challenging start out on the hardest level and leave your attribute total low.

Are you all insane?!? Tiger Woods is FAR better than Links. Who needs realism, when you can have...TIGER VISION. Tiger Vision, changing your shot trajectory mid flight, and let's not forget GAME FACE II, all the colorful non PGA characters you get to play as...

Nah...Links kills it, hands down. Best golf game on the console market...

Gameplay, absolutely no question from a "simulation" perspective.

Features, not in a million.

Sales, lets not go there.

Links, by the margin Tiger won the Open at Pebble about five or six years ago.

Not even close. Features don't mean squat if they're not mated to quality gameplay, and the gameplay in the Tiger console games is mediocre at best.

Take care,
PK

Agreed let's not go there because sales #'s have nothing to do with the quality of the game or anything to do with the thread. You can have all the features in the world but if the gameplay is bastardized to the point where there is no challenge, they are useless. Unless you have a fear of tall grass, then by all means pick up TW because you have to try to stick the ball in the rough.

So the only thing relative to the topic at hand.... Gameplay.

Sales? It's the EA syndrome. Wanna talk sales and hype? Talk to PK about Close Combat to see how that doesn't measure a game's goodness...

If Links gameplay were combined with Tiger's extras (minus the game killing stupid stuff like Tiger Vision and In air shot changing), we'd have the holy grail of Golf games...

You guys act like I disagree with you....I don't. Tiger on the consoles plays like the casual user wants to play....pick up and play with little to no challenge. Hell, I GET THAT. However, they outsold Links 2004 by 10 or 15 to 1.

What I am trying to say is that no matter how much better Links was in the gameplay department, it was a failure in comparison to TW. This is exactly why I have been challenging EA to give simulation users what they want and casual users what they want because both modes are already there feature-wise. If they ever do this, Links can drift off into the sunset because no one will care.....

So in your world there is not room for more then one golf game? Please don't take this the wrong way but that is something I would expect to hear from an EA exec. I think most consumers would disagree with you and at the very least want a choice. I would care if Links went away no matter what happens, it seems most of the people in this thread would agree with me on that. Year after year EA has continually disappointed me and my hard earned money upon purchasing their console game. Links was able to accomplish more in one year the EA had since it got me hooked on the original PGA Tour for the Genesis. A realistic game of golf using PGA Players and realistic human models that are not anime based. Until Links I would have to live with Hot Shots Golf as the closest thing to golf on a console.

Your sales numbers are tad skewed when Links was only on the Xbox and Tiger Woods was released on every piece of gaming electronics imaginable. How about throwing out a head to head comparison on the Xbox. The sales figure quip sounded like something straight out of the EA sales dept - this is getting kinda spooky.

Some of the large sites even helped EA's cause. Somehow Links 2004 was a 7.5 and Tiger Woods 2005 an 8.8 in the eyes of IGN. I am not calling a conspiracy here, just think a couple reviewers should consider a trip to the optomotrist. Especially when Links got the wrost graphics score of the two.

This is exactly why I have been challenging EA to give simulation users what they want and casual users what they want because both modes are already there feature-wise.
Challenging EA... Hmm sounds familiar, like a slogan EA once used before they decided to buy a large part of the industry. Too many conincidenses in one thread for me. I would feel around your head for any scaring or stitches that cover the circumference of your skull. ;)

While I wish you the best in the endevor, I have to pass on holding my breath on a turnaround to a more realistic console game.

Humorously yours,

BD

Yup, not even close - Links spanks it.

That said, it's not perfect. It's far too easy to recover from bunkers and rough.

TW rules on the PC (is Links ever coming back to the PC?) and on the PSP. Of course there is no competition any more or yet on either, but both are fine games in their own right.

Is that what I said? Don't think so. However, the point I was making was if you combined the features of both games, then there would not be a "need" for another Golf game. Since you and I both know this is likely not to happen, I am surprised at the tone of your response. Also, if not for Take Two, Links would be DOA right about now. THAT is what I said....

There is a new Executive Producer for TW now. While I have not had a chance to communicate with this person, what I have heard is that he may be moving the game in a more "PGA TOUR" direction instead of "EA Big". We'll see.

No I think that was exactly what you said, hence the quote. I just think that some people get really close to the developers and it clouds their judgement.

I think OG1 (never played 2) has a better physics model then Tiger Woods and I would say just as good as Links IMO.

I know what I said and you have chosen to believe something different.

This quote was made because of all the threads that I have read at both the EA boards and the Links XBox boards when people discuss the features of BOTH games. In fairness to Links, the users also did not care which game had the best features of both games (TW or Links), but since Links was on a great deal shakier ground until recently, I felt like stating it the way I did. Sorry if that POV offends you.

"Some people" are not me. I know where the line is drawn and I damn sure don't need someone who is unfamiliar with me or my relationship with EA to try to tell me my judgement is "clouded".

This quote was made because of all the threads that I have read at both the EA boards and the Links XBox boards when people discuss the features of BOTH games.
And we are here at the DSP boards. On a thread asking DSP'ers what game is best. Not what people from the EA Board and not the Links Xbox boards think. Also people from those two boards would translate in to what (.08%) of the people who bought both games games. Sorry but feel free to continue digging that hole deeper and deeper. People will miss Links, unlike your original quote states.

No I simply let your posts do that for you. Forecast for your next post "Overcast - 90% chance of EA love".

Interesting...I seem to recall a number of people at DSP relying on what was being said at different boards about both games. Now that is not acceptable? God forbid if other opinions from other people at other forums who play both games infect DSP. Excuse the hell out of me.

Not really sure why you have a burr up your butt all of a sudden towards me, but I know when it is time to stop. Since you have chosen to be unreasonable, argumentative, and confrontational, I'll just bow out of this thread so you can "win".....

Each successive post you make is some sort of attack towards me, so it is obvious that you have made this personal by trying to discredit me.

Nice try. You "win"....

Links, by a mile. Tiger is a fun enough game but in terms of gameplay, challenge and feel it can't hold a candle to Links.

I should get marks for effort here, at least.

Cheers,

No I refuse to take this "mythical victory" you keep interjecting into this discussion. The only winner in this thread is Links 2004. I have not tried to make this personal and your post history/stance on EA is all that is required to discredit you.

You are the one who has escalated this thread into a personal issue with each successive response to me. YOU are on the offensive and you have made this personal. If you don't want to own up to it, that is fine, but don't try to justify your combative behavior here by blaming me. Bowing out of this thread now as you have made your bias against me blatantly obvious.
