One thing I never figured out about that call, it was so blatantly wrong why didn't the other umpires confer and change the call? It wasn't just a ordinary game but a World Series game.

Did anything come in the years after the call? Did they find out the ump was on the take or had a gambling interest in the game?

All in a little fun, guys. Geez..... It's funny how 85 always gets mentioned. I may be one of the few guys who have a healthy respect for the Cards.....my first ever game was STL/PIT in 1975...

To compare Grudzy (yes, he has some talent) to Tommy Herr is reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy stretching it, though. Hit for average? Maybe, but the comparisons stop there.

As for Pujols, you got me Dan. Went to Ft. Osage HS in KC. However, being a 15th rounder means the Cards didn't really see that much in him originally either.

Todd, yes KC fans despise STL fans...it's one of the things that irks me...as I said, they don't bother me.

Lighten up, Cards fans....your team has a future. Mine doesn't.

You're right about Grudz in the field Rubba. That's where the comparisons stop when talking about Tommy Herr. Herr wasn't spectacular, but he was solid. Grudz is a bit less than solid in the field.

But, you brought up Bo Hart which is definitely a stretch when comparing him to Grudz.

And yes, I'm too lazy to look up how you spell Mark's last name!

I feel for Royals fans. When reading a season preview, it was talking about how Brian Anderson had been working on a cutter that should make him more effective. I don't think so, he's one of the worst pitchers in the league and if he were right handed, he'd be in AAA at best. Never good when a team is counting on Brian Anderson.

So far, Hernandez's guarantee ain't lookin' so good.

Btw Rubba, I have no dislike towards the Royals. I actually find it rather humorous there is hatred from a small contingent of fans from both teams.

Freshman year of college at KU, our dorm had a baseball night at Kaufman Stadium. Everything was paid for including bus, food, etc. To this day, Kaufman Stadium remains one of my favorite ballparks. I couldn't get over how well kept and neat the ballpark was. Busch is a fairly clean stadium in its own right, but nothing like Kaufman. It's a beautiful place to watch a game.

Oh, did I mention the game that I was fortunate to go to happened to be Saberhagen's no hitter against the White Sox! Talk about a performance.

The Royals are right behind the Indians in the AL for teams I like. I love Kauffman stadium.. what a great layout.

Unfortunately, I have never been in KC the same time as the Royals.

Luckily for KC, Kyle Lohse is pitching today and is highly allergic to pitching with a lead.

Kyle is in luck today. KC is allergic to holding a lead, so I see a 1-0 slugfest where the Twins score the winning run when

1. A ball bounces off a KC outfielder over the wall for a HR
2. A run scored on a passed ball or a balk
3. 3 consecutive errors score a run.

It's not like the Royals are blown out of every game (Last 5 losses by one run!), but they sure find new and inventive ways to lose.

Depressing.

I like when they decided to change to a grass field at the Royals ballpark, it makes it look much more traditional. Also, STL has done a good job adding some character to their ballpark. Instead of the old astrodome without a dome feel that place had, adding the grass and changing a few things in the outfield stands makes it look much better.

When is the new STL stadium scheduled to open up? Any links with dimensions or a rendered drawing?

Click on the 3D seating on the left hand side of the page. It really gives you an inside look at the interior.

It's going to be magnificant. However, it's unbelieveably close to one of the main highway overpasses.

Looks nice, thanks. The outside sort of reminds me of pac bell and the inside seems alot like the current stadium, talking dimensions of the outfield.

Well, St. Louis is undergoing or shall I say has been attempting to rejuvenate the city life for some time now. So, if they can attract young people to live downtown and have an opportunity to view the game from apartment buildings, then so be it. However, what I think is actually beyond the stadium are businesses. I could be wrong.

Also included in the development is what is being coined as the "Ballpark Village". It's basically going to consist of restaurants, bars, and other baseball specific attractions. That's more of a 10 year project.

Like I said...it's turning into Wrigley Field. Wrigleyville is basically when St. Louis is calling "Ballpark Village." I guess Wrigley has done alright over the years so it's not a bad business model to emulate, but I just would think teams would start getting a little more original (like Arizona putting a pool in, LOL).

If we can attract even half of the fans to stick around after the game and party in the bars, streets, and restaurants, that will be quite an accomplishment. Really, I never gave it any thought that what ownership was doing is copying Wrigleyville. I'm sure they're going to at least give it some St. Louis authenticity. But, it sure does have a similar looking feel. I think having the Arch in the backround will look pretty sweet.

Here's some shots of the new stadium I got on 4/10/05. On the third one I circled a car you can see that is on the highway right behind it, to get an idea of just how close they are building it to the highway.

The new stadium will be ready next season, although it will still not be full capacity yet. They are building the first half during the season next to the stadium, then knockig Busch down and building the other half where Busch is currently.
