Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
I was hoping Montoya would win, but my money was on Will Power. Regardless who won, it was a fantastic finish today. I think you can add this finish to Montoya's 2000 Michigan 500 finish in the highlight videos. Sorry to see things go bad for Dixon, Pagenaud, and Kanaan though. After all the worries...

Re: OT: Racing 2014 (Spoiler Alert)
It would have been easier for Prost to tell that Heidfeld was on his left side if he could actually hear the car. :D I'm glad the F1 standings have tightened up, but I just can't help wonder if there's a little conspiracy at work here. Perhaps someone had to compensate for the skewed luck that had g...

Re: Tony Stewart Kills Kevin Ward
The racing incident was so minor, Tony was probably thinking "whoa, somebody wrecked" and had no idea it was the guy anywhere near him. He would have been wrecking behind him and the contact was negligible. That's the part I don't get. Why was Ward so upset to begin with? He pretty much took himsel...

Re: RIP Robin Williams
I was talking with my mom about Robin Williams at dinner and she reminded me how he took care of his old friend Christopher Reeve's family. I think he even helped make sure they could cover their medical bills. What a great guy!
Sad loss, but at least he left a full body of work behind to enjoy.

And what an F1 race today. That was fun to watch. Great drives from the top three finishers. I doubt there was any period during the race where I felt even a bit bored.
I have no idea how Hamilton made his pass on Vergne stick!

I just thought I would share my Flickr album of some of my 2014 Toronto Indy Photos. https://www.flickr.com/photos/60348944@N00/sets/72157645858092925/ It was a great experience. I have to say, the teams and drivers were enormously more fan-friendly than their Formula 1 counterparts (Team Penske bei...

Interesting. I've got grandstand, pit and paddock passes for the event.
If you've got free time afterward I could always buy you a drink (assuming the Beer Garden won't be your office)
And how about Montoya finally finding his groove?

Also very pleased to see Phil Mason (Felipe Massa) win the pole. I can't recall a more dignified, graceful response to a crushing defeat by an athlete in my life than the aftermath of the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix, in which Massa was within two turns of winning the World Championship before Lewis H...

Re: OT: Racing 2012 (Spoiler Alert)
I think today's podium reflected the top three drivers of the year, though I wouldn't dare claim any order. I've turned into a Lewis fanboy and I really believe this season has confirmed how huge his level of driving talent is. I feel Hamilton has responded to his 2011 season much in the same way Al...

Re: OT: Racing 2012 (Spoiler Alert)
Sato never fails to entertain, but he also never fails to fall short :( Sato did seem a bit reckless there. The previous lap, Dixon was in a position to back out and let him through. Dario wouldn't have been able to back off and I fear Sato's car would have slid out. I don't think it was able to hol...

Thanks Paul.
So I guess PC and 360 versions of F1 2011 don't co-operate in any sort of multi-player mode?

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
Hey Guys, I haven't turned a virtual wheel in about a year and I let my iRacing subscription expire at Christmas. I finally feel the itch again. I might even install GTR2 just to get some experience in. What's the popular PC game that the old NASCAR 2003, rFactor, and iRacing crowd are playing now f...

Re: OT: Space Exploration
It's great that you invoke Kennedy and charisma because near the end of the interview, he dismisses that as the reason why America went to the moon. He says that America went to the moon because it was at war. Kennedy's speech was a response to the fear that Sputnik created. People were spooked. Wel...

Re: OT: Racing 2012 (Spoiler Alert)
I'm expecting the usual. If I was McLaren, I'd be concerned about a fast-starting Schumacher, though I doubt his tires will hold up long enough to prove to be too much of a problem. My concern about tires is doubled for Lewis. Vettel and Alonso will have significantly better race pace than qualifyin...

OT: Space Exploration
Hi, I remember some time in the last year or so there was a discussion on DSP on the future of the American space program. Today I heard an interesting interview on CBC radio with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson on the subject. I hope some people will also enjoy this. The weekly science show on CBC radio is...

Re: OT: Racing 2012 (Spoiler Alert)
It was the first race of the season and it was in Australia. You can't take much from the race and apply it elsewhere. Any way you look at it, McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferarri are still the top three in terms of race pace. The thing that surprised me the most was Button's first lap after the start and...

I'm too happy about Kimi being back to worry about the (nonetheless legitimate) criticisms from the nay-sayers.
He was good enough to flatter his Sauber. I hope he does the same in a Renault.
Woot Woot!

Re: OT: Racing 2011 (Spoiler Alert)
Though I've become a bit of a Lewis fanboy, I must say I think it was mostly his fault rather than Massa's. Suppose there was a gravel trap there instead of runoff room? Massa would have had nowhere to go. If Lewis pulled the same move on Massa in Monaco at Tabac (spelling?) I think everyone would h...

Fantastic post there Don. I watched the race but missed the port-a-potty bit
Nice photos Grant. It's nice to know people can truly enjoy a race weekend beyond just the view from the stands.

Re: OT: Racing 2011 (Spoiler Alert)
Another fun race from Hungary today. It appears that McLaren have caught up to Red Bull going into the break. Button drove a great race. It was too bad that Hamilton suffered from some unlucky strategy and a boneheaded move on his part that resulted in a penalty. I found the first quarter of the ra...

Re: OT - software patents and very interesting NPR report
That scares me and angers me at the same time. Funny thing about those Nortel patents - I wonder what fraction of them was funded by the Canadian government and are now in private hands. This also reminds me of a funny email we got when I was working at Alcatel. It was a blurb about innovation at Al...
