Fellas:
For those who have developed or are using updated NFL 2K5 rosters this year instead of playing Madden and its "giveaway glitch," are these rosters more than just updates of player movement? Have player ratings been changed?
In other words, will I get J.P. Losman the stumbling backup as the Bills' QB or J.P. Losman the guy who has looked pretty good in camp as the Bills' QB? Will Drew Bledsoe be the guy who came off a pretty decent 2003 season or the Drew Bledsoe who had a crap 2004 season?
Thanks,
PK

I can tell you what I've done with mine, and how I got there.
1) I downloaded NoPlaces rosters from arounf 8/1. He's a poster over at OS who made a really good updated roster with all the big rookies.
2) The one thing I did not like about his rosters were all of the global edits made to "fix" gameplay issues. Personally, I feel that mass ratings changes usually fix one thing but break another, and you get on this course of constantly chansing the next thing. I'm ok with a single attribute change, like say decreasing awareness across the board, but not mass changing a lot of attributes. So, in the end, I removed the global edits.
3) Added photos for all the decent players (70 or above rating). The trick is, you're not really adding a photo you found from ESPN.com, but rather reassigning a photo from one player to another. As an example, I gave Kevin Jones the photo of Garrison Hearst. I tried my best to find guys that looked close. I also tried to use scrubs photos, to avoid confusion seeing familiar faces like Randy Moss show up all over the place.
At this point I kept a "version 1.0"
4) For version 1.1 I picked up the Sporting News Scouting Guide (yeah, I'm geeking on this project). I used this to adjust the veterans. I do recall moving Bledsoe down a bit, but he's not a 70, more like he went down from an 88 to an 83. Now, keep in mind that even this guide has ratings you could argue. I know Losman was not rated very high. He was around #56 for QBs. I don't think I made him that low, but he's not great.
Overall, I think I altered at least 100 players, but most only moved 2-5 points. There were a few who made great strides orhad massive dropoffs. I know there was a S from the Pats who was rated a 78, but the book has him in the top 15, and he's starting. He went up into the mid 80s.
This process took a while, but it was worth it to get updated ratings in addition to adding rookies.
I'm open to suggestions to further modifications, so feel free to fire waya with anything you disagree with. I 'll at least take it into consideration

I played a game using your rosters last night and I really enjoyed it. It felt like a totally different game from 2k5. I never had fun with 2k5 last year but these rosters really make if feel like it's NFL 2K6. It just feels more fun to play.matthewk wrote:I can tell you what I've done with mine, and how I got there.

Also, are you going to do any schedule 2005-2006 updates?

I just updated the schedule on my Jets franchise... worked like a charm. The thing is, it must be done to an active franchise file. I supposed one solution would be to start a franchise file with all the teams set to user-controlled, so people could have their pick of teams. 2K5 lets you change settings mid-franchise, so there's no problem there.

For anyone interested, i have a completely updated roster file in the operation sports roster download section. There are no global edits and i've added pics to just about everyone in the league. Its a pretty nice file and if anyone wants it with the new schedule let me know...i'll email it to you...thanks.
