Everyone says Halo, but it makes me seasick.

PGR2 for $30? Definitely.

Top Spin? Hmmmm, it's good, but not top 5 material.

ESPN Baseball - Yes!

So we have Halo, PGR2, ESPN Baseball. I'd add a football game like ESPN football. Lastly, I'd personally include Moto GP2 or Links. Both are Live enabled, and both are great games you can only find on the Xbox.

I agree with Matthew's picks.

Motogp2 is somewhat underrated imo. I think it's a fantastically fun game, especially if you have live! capability.

If I could only pick 5:

1) MotoGP2
2) ESPN Football 2k4
3) ESPN Baseball 2k4
4) PGR2
5) Crimson Skies or Links2004

Jack:

Welcome to the club. I hope you're getting Xbox Live, too. If so, here's a killer lineup, considering the sports "in season" these days:

Halo

Project Gotham Racing 2, TOCA Race Driver 2 or Moto GP 2

Links 2004

Ghost Recon Island Thunder

ESPN Major League Baseball (haven't played it, but I'll take everyone's word in here. More than a week on the market and still few complaints.)

Have fun!

Take care,
PK

Don't forget Colin McRae Rally 4. At $19.99, I think it is the best bang for the buck on the Xbox...period. Links 2004 is the best console golf game ever made and the Links Tour is getting started this week.

Also, if you're not limiting yourself to sports games, I'd pick up Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Halo, and the new James Bond game, Everything or Nothing.

I have Links Xbox and TW2003 PC, as well as MotoGP2 on PC and Xbox. Well, actually I sold MotoGP2 for Xbox not too long after PGR2 came along since everyone was playing that on live. Actually I have not been playing much MotoGP2 on PC either. If I have a bike fix I still go with GP500 if you can believe that. Links for Xbox and TW2003 PC are very different experiences and I like them both. Links is very fun to play on XBL if you have others to play with. However, the XSN tourney stuff seemed to get so screwed up(is it fixed yet by the way?), that I have not played it in awhile. Now that Augusta 2004 is out for TW2003 PC, I don't see myself playing Links again for a long time.

At $19.99 Colin McRae 4 is a very good game for the Xbox. I imported the PC version, but that cost me $45 and to be honest I have only had frsutrations with the par for the couse HORRIBLE Codemasters steering and force feedback control. The PC version looks great, and I am sure will eventually have lots of cool mods and updated 2004 cars, but the Xbox version is far less frustrating for $19.99

Edit: Just saw badgun's post. What is this Links Tour?

If you don't have it for PC, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a must have game. Must have.

Jack:

Seems like everyone is playing Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow on XBL. We also have Poker Nights for Project Gotham Racing 2, Ghost Recon Island Thunder and Rainbow Six 3.

I imagine we'll have plenty of Poker Nights for TOCA Race Driver 2, released tomorrow; IndyCar Series 2005, released in May; and Full Spectrum Warrior, released in June.

Looking forward to playing with you on XBL, man!

Take care,
PK

Yes, I forgot about that one, Bill. Truly a must have. It's one of the rare games that I actually finished. 47 hours to finish it on the light side. Brilliant game!

Don,
Here is the link to the Links Tour. It's actually being put on by Microsoft. You have to play in one of the qualifiers before you can claim your gamertag, but after that you can play in any tournament you choose. There are teams and teamplay matches as well as individual tournaments. As for XSN, it appears to be fixed...I've played 8 rounds over the last two days and all of them posted successfully.

1. ESPN Baseball
2. Links
3. Splinter Cell PT
4. GR Island Thunder or Rainbow 6 III
5. PGR2 or Fight Night

ESPn football is great, but the season is past so wait until 2005. March Madness is also a good game, but not online and likewise past its season. GR and R63 gamers are playing a lot of Splinter Cell now, but both those games are unique Xbox Live experiences that shouldn't be missed.

Links is just a great game of golf, especially online.

Looking at this thread makes picking up a Xbox tempting. What's up with all these $20 and $30 games?? Are they really selling that poorly?

Bill...thanks for the suggestion, but I am not really an "RPG" guy.
I would love a Star Wars game in the veign of the old "Dark Forces"
game on the PC.

Jack:

It's not a sale; it's a permanent markdown, I believe. So you should be able to get all XSN titles for $29.99.

Here's my list in order of must haveness:

1.) Pro Race Driver 2 (based on my experience with Pro Race Driver)
2.) Links 2004
3.) NCAA Football 2004
4.) NBA Inside Drive 2004
5.) Halo (and I'm not even a fan of FPS shooters!)

If I were buying right now, I would scratch NCAA Football 2004 off my list because I'm very seasonal about team sports games. I'd wait for the new football season to start and go with something else.

I'm tempted to substitute ESPN Baseball 2004 for it right now, but I'm not completely sure that I will be able to play a full season with it. It plays a pretty good game of baseball, but I fing the presentation to be lacking a few key elements, and the atmosphere to be inexplicably dull, in places. The post home run buzz is totally missing!? Home runs are treated as non-events. Still groping with baseball for this season, but this will probably be the best fit for Xbox.

I think sports have been pretty well covered. My non-sports suggestions would be:

1) Halo -- Quite possibly the best game released in this generation of consoles. Staggeringly huge levels. Plus you can get it cheap for used.
2) Star Wars: KOTOR -- I'm not a big RPG guy but this game was amazing. Best value in terms of how much there is to do compared to how much it costs.
3) Splinter Cell -- Right now, I think the original was more compelling than the sequel, even though the sequel is good.
4) Ghost Recon:Island Thunder -- Amazing XBL game, with lots of free downloadable content
5) Full Spectrum Warrior (due in June) -- depending on your budget, I'd save a little for this baby. It looks like it will be awesome.

For me:

1.) Halo-Try to beat it in co-op mode with a friend. One of the most fun experiences I've had in gaming, ever.

2.) Star Wars KOTOR- I hate RPGs, even the supposed great ones. This one did it for me. Greatest storyline I've ever seen in a game.

3.) ESPN Baseball- The baseball game I (as well as many others here) have been waiting for. The sliders work beautifully as well. Near perfect.

4.) Splinter Cell PT: The first one was great, but get this one for the addition of online play. Can't see myself getting tired of it.

5.) NBA Inside Drive-Stunning realism. Shames the other basketball titles. Last version of this great series, so no excuse not to get it, especially at $29.99 (or lower?).

-AJ

Honorable Mention: GTA double pack (GTA III and GTA:VC). This moves to near the top of the list if you didn't play these on PS2 or PC.
