F1 fans: Anyone watch opening of 1994 "F1 Decade?"

Boys:

Any F1 fans in here watch the opening episode of "F1 Decade" last night on Speed, the series in which Speed shows every Grand Prix from 1994?

Excellent race between Schumacher and Senna. And the accident between Verstappen, Irvine and Brundle was violent as hell -- man, I can´t believe Brundle didn´t break his neck or get decapitated when the tire from Verstappen´s car clocked the side of his head!

Judging by the Australian GP last night -- YAWWWWWN ... ZZZZ -- "F1 Decade" could be a lot more entertaining than the current product this year. The Imola and Monaco shows should be pretty heavy.

Take care,
PK

Yeah, I caught it. That wreck was horrifying. Some nice battles on the track too.

I wish I had a TIVO back when they were playing 93 decade. Would love to have all these on DVD.

Its great to have Varsha back in the booth. It just seems that no one can keep up with Ferrari. Everyone thought the new engine rules would make a difference, but it seemed like they just eased through the last part of the race.

Agreed on Varsha. He made a BIG miscue last night, saying Webber was Canadian, but he´s still miles better than DeBrutal and remains one of the top play-by-play guys in racing.

I´ll take Varsha over Mike Joy, Allan Bestwick or Paul Page any day of the week. In fact, I´ll take Varsha over just about anybody.

I enjoyed the 93 F1 decade and enjoyed watching Brazil 94.

Amazing that Senna and Schumacher were a lap ahead of the field, and also to see the interplay between Hill and Schumacher, knowing how that relationship fractured toward the end of 1994.

I´m not looking forward to seeing 1994 Imola race, though. As PK and I were talking about last week, it´s been 10 years, and it´s still weird to think that he was killed on track.

While the Senna wreck is part of the race broadcast, do you think they´d show Ratzenberger crash and Wendlinger crash at Monaco since they were in qualifying and practice?

I think the pundits underestimated the progress Bridgestone made over the off-season. Of course, all of this is up in the air until we see how Ferrari/Bridgestone handles the hot weather (read: Sepang) in preparation for the summer racing, but if Australia is a indicator of future results, we´re in for a 2002 all over again.
but really, this is 2004, and nearly everything is considered to be gay now

Hey PK...

Last night I was watching the F1 race in Austrailia on Speed. Is it just me or are those cars a hellova lot faster and more agile in the turns than our American Indy cars?

I remember watching some of the street courses years ago...Long Beach for example and it just seemed like those damn F1 cars were FLYING around the curves with a lot more handling capabilities. It just seemed like it was racing at another level. I was really impressed.

DB:

An IndyCar Series car is faster than an F1 car in terms of straightline speed. Probably about 5 mph faster now that IndyCar Series engines are smaller this season starting at Indy.

But no car on Earth corners or brakes like an F1 car. An F1 car can decelerate from 200 mph to 80 mph in about 75 meters. It can go from 0 to 100 mph to 0 -- in six seconds.

F1 cars are the most awesome racing machines on Earth. But there better be more stirring racing among those machines in the final 17 races of 2004 than we saw in Australia, or it´s going to be a long season.

TV coverage of F1 is great, with the in-car camera shots and all. But you´ve never felt your hair stand on end or seen goose bumps the size of dimes on your arms until you´ve stood near one when it´s screaming down the straightaway at Indy -- 900 horsepower at 19,000 RPM! -- and then watched it brake incredibly late and dive into Turn 1 with a flick of the wheel.
I guess that´s why I was so impressed with the cornering abilities of those F1´s last night. I didn´t watch all of the race or anything because it was late night, but from what I saw, they were a lot more impressive in turns than Indy cars.

They showed some in car views and holy crap, I never remembered seeing that type of stopping and starting power in Indy cars...as well as the supreme handling characteristics in the corners.

Thanks for the info bro.
Amen to that. The first thing I did going to practice in 2000 was go straight to Turn 1 (road course t1). Everytime I thought there is no way they will make the turn at that speed, but of course they would no problem. It wasn´t until race day (fortunately still sitting in T1) that I got to see someone miss it. (JV trying to get by HHF).
