OT: Anyone ever take vacation in St. Lucia?

Post by pk500 »

Fellas:

The family is looking forward to its first vacation in three years this February. We're returning to the Caribbean and want an island that combines mountains and beaches.

I'm zeroing in on St. Lucia. Anyone ever been there? Any feedback, positive or negative?

Thanks.

My wife and I went to the Sandals all inclusive resort for our Honeymoon but that was 18 years ago. It was nothing but couples, no kids. We didn't leave the resort so I really can't comment on the Island.

Thanks, Dan.

As a follow-up, we're not "all-inclusive" people at all. We like to get out and about, sample the local cuisine, culture, music, shopping, etc. The only meal I possibly want at the hotel is breakfast, for convenience only.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

It was on my short list for my Honeymoon back in 08...ultimately I decided on Punta Cana - Dominican Republic...because I don't like the touristy type places. It was more off the beaten path back then. It has blown up since, so it's certainly an option for you and your family. Plus it was a bit cheaper back then too...I'm not sure how it compares to St. Lucia these days.

Paul,
Like Dan, I was there 25 years ago on my honeymoon and was actually going back this past Jan. for our 25th when My brother in law had emergency heart surgery. What I remember was being approached the minute we got off the cruise ship if I wanted to buy some pot. The island itself is more tropical lush than the some of the others , if that makes sense. St. Lucia is a French island and the French islands on a whole seemed poorer than thier British counterparts , you may encounter some nudity on the French beaches which might be good for you  but maybe not for the kids.
its a beautiful island and as I mentioned,I'm drawing on my experience from 25 years back and only 1 day on it via cruise ship.
My personal favorite in the southern Caribbean is Barbados , an English island with nice beaches , excursions , food an all. Good luck and wherever you end up should be an experience.

Based on your experience, those who have played on XBL with me will not be surprised at this statement: I'M BOOKING NOW. :D

Keep the feedback coming, fellas. Thanks!

Went on my honeymoon... all inclusive resort sucked ass, but the island was pretty cool. I didn't feel like I was gonna get ganked.

We did get out to a zipline place and it was awesome.

I spent two weeks in your fair city for work in 1997. Enjoyed it very much!

I also have spent a bit of time in East St. Louis. That, on the other hand, was bleak and scary ...

PK if you're at all interested in snorkeling or scuba diving you'll have a fantastic time. I did my open water certification for scuba at a resort and the diving off the Pitons was absolutely incredible - clear water and fantastic coral and sea life. At least it was when I was there 20+ years ago! As for the pot, yes I had that experience on the beach as well LOL! I don't think you could really go wrong trying St. Lucia.

Best wishes,

Doug

Thanks, Doug. I love SCUBA diving. Have done it in St. Thomas and Grand Cayman. Would love to add another area to my list.
