If true that is absolutely terrible news.
But I find it odd that no major news sites are carrying any information and I could only find one report from an Atlanta news site and it only referenced the WWE press release and said no details were available from any local sources. And the WWE site already has multiple stories about his career and have planned a tribute during tonight's RAW. Sounds like it could be a sick marketing ploy/hoax.

I have no idea who this guy is, but I read a statement from the WWE claiming this is "not a WWE storyline" (aka not fake).
I'm sure the wire services are leary of anything involving "wrestling"- I mean, didn't Vince McMahon(sp?) die a few weeks ago? Nobody covered that story. Makes me wonder if Vince is really really dead, hmm...
Anyhoo, sad story (if it's real).

Well I do not believe it is a 'work' due to the competitor running a rememberance blip.

Wow, what a tragedy. Slain in their own home? How f'ed up is that? Here's the story from ESPN.com:

I haven't followed wrestling much since the Rock left but my brother has and said the major news outlets put out the story of Vince being killed a couple of weeks ago when it was just a storyline in the WWE, so it's to be expected that they would be extra cautious about reporting this until it was confirmed.
Such a tragedy. RIP Benoit.

So does Vince actually come out of hiding to honor this guy, or does he protect the "storyline" and remain 'dead'. what a joke...vader29 wrote:I haven't followed wrestling much since the Rock left but my brother has and said the major news outlets put out the story of Vince being killed a couple of weeks ago when it was just a storyline in the WWE, so it's to be expected that they would be extra cautious about reporting this until it was confirmed.

With the live event being cancelled Vince came out at the beginning of Raw tonight and made the announcement of Benoit's passing and they had a 3 hour memorial show for him, so yeah obviously the Vince death storyline is over.greggsand wrote:

From the Associated Press earlier today:
Details of the deaths "are going to prove a little bizarre" when released to the public, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in DeKalb County.
Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects.
Investigators believe Benoit, (pronounced ben-WAH) killed his wife and son over the weekend and then himself sometime Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three different rooms of the house on Green Meadow Lane, in a subdivision off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club.
Ballard told The Associated Press a gun was not used in any of the deaths. But he declined to say how the three died.
"We're pretty sure we know, but we want to confirm it with the crime lab," Ballard said early Tuesday.

I don't even watch wrestling anymore but lets be fair. They were in a no win situation. They found out at 4pm, they canceld a Live event for a few hours later and they needed to decided what to do right then. So they put together a tribute show. This information about the murder didn't come out until after the show was already on.sportdan30 wrote:IMO, they should have waited until they knew for sure what happened. If it's truly a murder-suicide, then you sure the hell don't do a 3 hour tribute to this f****r!

Wow, what a f#cker:
ATLANTA - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son. Steroid abuse has been linked to depression, paranoia, and aggressive behavior or angry outbursts known as "roid rage."

Not buying that for one minute. Sorry. They did the right thing in cancelling the show, but a tribute? Why not wait a day or two for all the facts to come out? Seems McMahon was only worried about one thing...ratings.Danimal wrote:I don't even watch wrestling anymore but lets be fair. They were in a no win situation. I have to agree. As soon as I heard he and his family were found dead i immediately thought Murder/Suicide. Whenever an entire family is found dead in their own home you have to consider that a possibility.sportdan30 wrote:Not buying that for one minute. Sorry. I love it. The WWE is actually trying to defend steriods. Check these gross & tacky statements from these idiots:
But the WWE said evidence gathered in the investigation indicates "deliberation, not rage."
"The wife's feet and hands were bound and she was asphyxiated, not beaten to death," said a statement posted on the company's Web site. "By the account of the authorities, there were substantial periods of time between the death of the wife and the death of the son, again suggesting deliberate thought, not rage."
Investigators found the bodies of Nancy and Daniel Benoit with Bibles placed next to them, authorities have said. "The presence of a Bible by each is also not an act of rage," said the WWE.

Whether steroids played a part or not, why the hell would you come out and DEFEND roids at this moment. What's the upside???????
