Pulled the trigger today on Nest. Took 5 mins to install & configure. Slick interface.

Wow iOS 7 looks like a kids toy. Whoa, look at all the pretty colors! They apparently have improved their two biggest downfalls so that's good at least. Multitasking and Notifications. We'll see how they work in the wild, but I've got high hopes. Now can we please get rid of the "baby's first" theme? Ugh. Disgusting.

It's also hilarious that everyone is calling it an Android skin because of all of the copying...at least stylistically...obviously not the colors. LOL.

One little thing they didn't talk about, but I've been wanting every since I realized using virtual D-pads on touch screens suck:

I officially HATE Apple for its absolutely wretched customer service.

The Lightning to USB cord on my son's iPod broke after just two months, so my son and I brought it into the Apple Store tonight at Destiny USA, a local mall. The attendant asked if I had an appointment with a technician. I didn't know I needed a reservation with a "tech" to exchange a faulty cord. I asked him if the technician was going to fix the existing cord and was told no, it was just an exchange.

I asked: "Why the hell can't we just do it now? You get a cord from the rack, I fill out quick return paperwork, and my 8-year-old son is a happy camper?"

Nope, the cult of Apple doesn't allow that. The attendant said there were reservations available Monday and Tuesday afternoon for me to EXCHANGE A F*CKING USB CORD.

Instead, I bought the cord off the rack for $19, which is exactly what Tim Cook and his minions wanted.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE to require a customer to make a reservation with a "technician" for a simple warranty exchange that involves ZERO technical acumen. Apple is a f*cking joke of a consumer cult.

What? You didn't know the GENIUS bar appointment? :)

Call Apple customer service explain what happened and they should give you a refund.

GENIUS bar. What self-indulgent bullsh*t. A f*cking chimp could have performed the exchange I needed.

I will call Apple and torch them. Good idea, Rod. Thanks.

I didn't. My 8-year-old son saved birthday, Christmas, First Communion, First Penance and chore money for the last 15 months to buy the new iPod with his own dough.

I've never owned an Apple product. Don't plan on it, either. But all three of our kids have iPods or iPads.

Hmm, so the kids haven't inherited the old man's miserly spending habits or learn to look past trendy, aspirational brands?

There's a lesson in there somewhere.

I've been okay with my Lightning cable. If Apple doesn't give you a refund, looks like Monoprice has Lightning cables now. They have them up to 10-feet in length, all under $19.

Trust me, dude: I have tried on the aspirational brand issue! But my youngest is a miser: He's 8 and saved $300 for his iPod. That's impressive for a little squirt.

But the kids are slaves to Apple. Wisdom will come with age. :)
