Blasphemers! This is SO OBVIOUSLY the best baseball game ont he 360!
In an effort to get more "in touch" with whatever it was the developers were trying to achieve with this game, I erased all my custom settings and seasons and started anew, playing the game as it is out of the box, meaning pro defaults and all that. Using my old strategy for the NBA 2K games when they would get too easy and boring, I picked a terrible team, and started a GM franchise with the Royals. Strangely enough, I'm 3-3 with a couple manage-only games thrown in there, and it's been pretty fun with very few homers and really decent box scores. WEIRD. I'm gonna ride the wave as long as it lasts.
Made myself as a catcher to sweeten the deal, too.

I'm about halfway thru my season (I've played every single game so far) and I'm still enjoying this one big time. I've had to do some major slider tweaking and roster editing to tone down the HR's and to increase the strikeouts but I feel like I've got a combination to suit my skill level. This is the most fun I've had with a sports game in a long while. Maybe my standards aren't as high as they used to be regarding sports games. I did love Madden 07 after all.
All right you f*ckers
I want to like the game and will give it another shot. Anything to keep me from buying a PS3 for one game that I'll play until July and I already have on PSP
Here are some questions:
1. Is there anything I should be aware of regarding starting a season, ie: should I turn hot/cold off, injuries, etc.
2. Any hints on what worked for you in tweaking sliders. For example, did you start on a certain level (Pro) and work from there? Are there any particular sliders you feel should be tweaked right away no doubt about it regardless of skill level?
3. What is the best roster to use (I have a transfer system).
Thanks!

Personally, I'm not tweaking anything... default pro, all defaults that come up in franchise, meaning hot/cold teams on and whatnot. Team selection seems like it might be the big variable in what kind of games you have, if this little Royals experiment has taught me anything. Might want to turn injuries off, since star players on other teams sometimes don't get properly re-instated at the MLB level once healthy, but I'm committed to playing this game 100% out of the box, with whatever weirdness may ensue, if only because everything feels right and fun as it currently stands, and that's the first time I can say that. But in a week everything could change and I'll be back to deriding it.
Most sane individuals would probably want some tweaks. But that was a game I couldn't win, so I stopped playing.

I think I'll do the same, but I guess I'll turn injuries off and play one game per series and sim the others to get through a few seasons. For next gen consoles, I've become a graphics whore and if I'm going to spend $$ on a 24" Dell monitor, I want to see this game again in all its beauty.Slumberland wrote:Personally, I'm not tweaking anything... default pro, all defaults that come up in franchise, meaning hot/cold teams on and whatnot. Isn't there updated rosters via XBL from 2k sports?
I'm playing with default sliders on pro, turned off injurys and trades. I forgot to rename Barry Bonds in the game and there doesn't seem to be a way to edit players names once you are in your season so any changes you want to make to the rosters do them before you save your season. Also since I quit using the swing stick for batting I've been doing a lot better hitting homeruns and have Bay and LaRoche first and second in the league in homeruns although Bay has gone into a slump without any in the past 10 games.
you can edit players, just force trade them to your team, edit, then trade back. In regards to sliders, I started with a set at OS called "Creating the perfect slider set" and adjusted to my liking. in order to stop all of homerun robbing, diving infielder, turn the aggressiveness sliders all the way to 0, this opens up tons of new animations for the fielders, cpu and human. As far as hitting I have human power at 5 and contact around about 20-40. I get slugfests and pitching duels. make sure to turn on cpu use inside edge and the cpu will learn your tendencies via your VIP stats. cpu pitching I have set at about 40-55 for throw strikes, throw balls (all settings) the cpu will really nibble the corner. I have zoom at about 40 and pitch speed at about 50-60 in order to get a good read of pitches. I can coax about 3-4 walks per game, but still strike out a lot. i get realistic fatigue from the cpu pitchers. once again, I really enjoy this game. most games I've played of a baseball game in a while.

I downloaded the demo from the Playstation Store just to see perhaps I missed the boat on this game. Now mind you I just got done playing a season game of The Show.
I don't know if it's my connection, or because it's a demo, but this game is flat out s*cks. Except for the pitcher interface, everything feels just so contrived. From the batting to the fielding. I feel as though I have absolutely no control over where I'm hitting the ball. It's randomness is too over the top for my case. While playing the outfield isn't so bad, playing the infield is pure cr#p. There's such a detached feeling to the fielding, it's not enjoyable in the least. The choppy feeling doesn't help matters.
Brinkman came out a few weeks after the game was released and said the fielding sucks and the game itself needs much improvement. He couldn't be so right.
Now, as I said maybe it's the demo I played. I honestly can't recall the 360 version of this game being this poor, but it just feels so incomplete. Good luck Mizzourah and Leebo. Hope you get that euphoria feeling back.

I learned a few things playing over the past 2 nights:
- There is no way I can play with default sliders. It's almost impossible for me to walk and I would never unintentionally walk a CPU batter. I agree with Gamer that lowering the aggressiveness and also the response time for the fielders REALLY helps. Lowering the response time to the fielders to almost zero seems to give me a lot more control over them. I never thought of doing that before.
- Although I hate all the button presses, I think zone pitching is a lot harder than payoff...if only those misses weren't meat pitches and were just balls. The good news is as I get better more pitches are balls because I can usually hit the target at least once. The bad news is that I'll probably master it at some point.
- I tried the "Bored Wanderer" sliders at Gamefaqs just because he made a post that explains all his thinking, which I agreed with for the most part. The great thing was that I was getting variety without it seeming forced. I scored and had the CPU score against me in all ways....not too many homers at all, plenty of doubles, and nice hit variety.
- I'm not going to tweak anything for the next 10 games unless it is to compensate for me getting better at the game itself.
- I'm trying to focus on the positive and enjoy myself. I've seen just enough AI issues to draw my attention (mainly involving pitching changes and pinch hitting), but it's certainly not anything that other baseball games have/had struggled with in the past. I don't think I have time or need a baseball game that I will play 162 times. I just need a baseball game to hold me over until July when NCAA Football comes out and then to pickup again in the fall during the playoffs.

Perhaps here?10spro wrote:Lee, can you post the link for those sliders you're using from gamefaqs?

Although I haven't played myself in a while now, I am pretty happy with both 2k7 and the Show (PS2). The show plays a better game of baseball, but I enjoy a lot of the increased interactivity that 2k7 offers...especially while picthing.
