Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Good point. But the Kings will lose some of the "grit" guys who play such a key role in a Stanley Cup run. Those guys are coveted and overpaid by other teams due to their leadership, experience and relatively inexpensive contracts compared to superstars.
Just ask how the Penguins have they've done since losing Scuderi and Gill. Or how about the Blackhawks since they lost Byfuglien, Fraser, Eager, Ladd, Madden and Versteeg.
Sure, none were superstars. But they were key threads of the fabric of a championship team. And they're harder to replace than many think.
Among guys in that category for the Kings are Penner, Stoll and Mitchell, who are UFA's after this season. Someone is going throw rather silly money at them if they want to leave. One positive for LA is that I think many players LOVE being there because of the weather and relative anonymity compared to a hockey-mad Canadian city like Edmonton, Montreal or Toronto.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Mitchell was resigned for two more years at the same price. I imagine the Kings will be able to resign at least one of if not both of Stoll/Penner. Penner already stated earlier this year, shortly before the playoffs, that he would love to resign here and would take a pay cut to do so. He knows he's not worth as much as his previous contract after the poor year and a half he's had.pk500 wrote:Good point. And to think there were a lot of rumors they almost traded Brown at the deadline this year....

I have a feeling Quick will command much more $$$ than you think.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
From that particular time, he seemed to play with a mission. He was angry, for the years that he played for LA, he thought that he was unfairly singled out. One of the best players during the playoffs run and the guy that took care of my 'Nuckers along Quick.Naples39 wrote:And to think there were a lot of rumors they almost traded Brown at the deadline this year....

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Good to know about Mitchell, King. But Penner's loyalty will erode quickly if a team tosses money at him. But that's unlikely considering he was a bust in Edmonton and underachieved with the Kings.
Stollie could be a hot commodity. He's showing his versatility and value during the playoffs. Is he still banging Rachel Hunter? That might keep him in LA.
Quick also will command a hell of a lot more cake than some think. He's the hottest goaltending commodity in the NHL.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
That's the problem with goaltending in the NHL tho...it's all about the hot goalie at the time. That's why they don't get as much money as you'd think they deserve. Isn't that why Tim Thomas is about to take a year off hockey next year? Or I thought I heard something about that recently.pk500 wrote:Quick also will command a hell of a lot more cake than some think. He's the hottest goaltending commodity in the NHL.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
You heard right. And as far I know, if he indeed does take a hiatus as he indicated on his facebook page, his career is pretty much over.dbdynsty25 wrote:That's the problem with goaltending in the NHL tho...it's all about the hot goalie at the time. One thing Kings are aware is the immediate emergence of J. Bernier should they be unable to sign Quick next season.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Still is no longer with Hunter. They were engaged a couple years ago but he called off the wedding just before it happened. He still dates incredibly hot models though. I Know because I sat behind him and him and his date at a kings night Dodger game.pk500 wrote:Good to know about Mitchell, King. But Penner's loyalty will erode quickly if a team tosses money at him. Stolly has always been known as the type of guy who likes expensive men's fashion and the hot women that are suckers for that stuff. There is an abundance of that stuff in LA. I get the sense he would like to stay.
There has been been a lot of talk about how tight the dressing room is the last two seasons, even when things weren't looking as good in the middle of this season.

Apparently Stollie is/was banging David Cassidy's daughter:

Solid. Very solid. That would keep me in the Southland.

Does she have a slag tag like Rachel Hunter also?

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
BTW, couple things I thought I would share. First, a pic I took at the game on Monday.

Second, I thought this was pretty cool.

I'm in there, LAKingsGeek. Unfortunately i don't see a way to search.

Very Cool LAking, had to of been awesome at the rink the other night it was so loud on tv even.
Are you going tonight also?

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Yeah, that was my buzzed head, behind my gf. Had to drive straight from work, didn't have any kings gear. I wasn't planning on going but broke down and bought tickets on stubhub after pressure from my gf.
It was fun. So glad they won or else i would have been pissed i had blown so much money on a loss. Can't afford to go tonight. As of right now the cheapest seat on stubhub is $1k. I heard the Kings released some seats not long before the game on Monday so i'll keep checking for that but even those will probably be astronomically expensive. At least i'll be at LA Live to watch the game and celebrate a potential victory.

King: Make sure you have the GoPro mounted to your head -- and not your groin -- tonight when you streak down Figueroa naked after the Kings hoist the Mug.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
I'm actually shocked that Quick allowed that game winner to go through. Looks as thought he had the angle cut off and it just barely glanced off of him into the back of the net. That was literally shocking to me, especially given the angle. Oh well.Jimmydeicide wrote:Yeh, it did. The Devils could have laid down, kudos to them last night.Jimmydeicide wrote:Yeh, it did. Devils where awesome tonight, got some deserved bounces, they earned that one, Kings where pretty much flawless also.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
3 of the 4 games have been very close, and the odds of winning 11 straight road games in the playoffs are not exactly the strongest. Maybe NJ can keep hopes alive with a win in NJ. Quick continues to amaze and should win the Conn Smythe, but Brodeur has put in a spectacular performance as well for the most part.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Given that games 1 and 2 were so close, I thought the Devils still had a real shot if they pulled out game 3. Losing as they did in game 3, I think they are dead in the water. Yeah, they won game 4, and could even win game 5, but I really can't see them coming all the way back under any circumstances.
