NFL Season 2010

Re: NFL Season 2010
Packers have had a lot of injuries to key players this year.
They're the only team that gave the Pats a game in the last third of the season but they have a long road as a WC team.
Last year was apparently the first time in awhile that the top seeds of both conferences went to the SB. So it hasn't been common for the team with the HFA to always get through.

I don't like our OC, but I believe Spags believes in him and lets him call the plays.XXXIV wrote:I like him too but he was far too passive last night.MizzouRah wrote:Great year though and I do like Spags as our coach.
He is the head coach and ultimately responsible for Shurmur's gentle approach to play calling. Plus he was asleep at the switch on two obvious challenges.
Going forward on a couple of positive notes. The defense was much improved this season. Bradford has a year under his belt. Opening day 2011 season is only eight months away. Lets go Rams!!!!
For the possible challenges, that all comes from the both upstairs, somebody was sleeping on those!

Spags is responsible for both the oc and the guy in the booth. Maybe he should stick to defense and leave the thinking to someone elseMizzouRah wrote:I don't like our OC, but I believe Spags believes in him and lets him call the plays.XXXIV wrote:I like him too but he was far too passive last night.MizzouRah wrote:Great year though and I do like Spags as our coach.

7-9 after 6-42 is pretty damn good so I will give the dipshit another year or two to get his head out of his ass.

Kind of shocked that Cable is out in Oakland. I don't follow the team closely so ,Terry, is this shocking? Are Raider fans happy with this move?

Wow last week I read reports that Jason Garrett was promoted to HC for next year and now NFL.com says that Jerrah is interviewing for HC's.
Looks like the Dolphins are trying to get Jim Harbaugh. I hope not, don't know if he's ready for the Pro game and PFT.com is indicating that both sides are heading towards a lockout. That doesn't bode well for a rookie HC.

The three I know are confused as hell. The team finally started looking like a real team and then they go an ax the guy who got it turned around. Interesting for sure around these parts.ScoopBrady wrote:Kind of shocked that Cable is out in Oakland. I don't follow the team closely so ,Terry, is this shocking? Local sports radio has Al Davis trying to hire Harbaugh before the 49ers.
Of course in Al Davis' mind, he's responsible for the improvement, not some coach.

Al Davis is worried about losing his OC to a head coaching job. I imagine Jackson will be promoted to head coach in the next few days.

As a Packers fan, I love the odds of playing the Bears for a trip to the Super Bowl, even in Chicago.Danimal wrote: Actually I'd like to see the Pack beat Philly and then us get the Saints at home. Best case scenario is we get the Pack at home in the championship game, I like those odds.
Now that the injuries have settled down, I think the team is getting better each week. as an example, we've lost 4 linebackers for the season already, and yet here comes Walden to pick it up. Each week the same guys are on the field together, the better they get as a whole. If they can get Jenkins back for the playoffs and not lose any more key players, the Pack has a legit shot at going all the way. The NFC really is a toss up right now (with the exception of the Seahawks).

Re: NFL Season 2010
I'm so proud of our Dolphins owner for pulling a Wayne Huizenga and flying to Nocal and making a jackass of himself trying to hire Jim Harbaugh. Just fire Tony Sparano and move on.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Please, overpay him so the 49ers don't get stuck with a $30 million contract for guy with no NFL HC experience.
Looks like nobody is looking to hire Gruden or Cowher. Did they price themselves out of the market? Or just not get enough recent hype like Harbaugh?
Harbaugh may turn out to be a good coach like his brother but make him prove it a little first.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Personally I prefer keeping Sparano as opposed to hiring Gru, Cowher or Harbaugh. I like Tony and think he's at least a decent HC and could even be a solid HC with better players.
I'm of the belief that Harbaugh will disappoint. Wrt no one hiring Gru or Cowher, I think owners are beginning to realize that if you leave coaching because you were fired or you've been away from the game for awhile chances are it will be tough to make a go of it with a new team. Which is why I think like you said prove it first by being a successful coordinator first then become a HC.
The ONLY thing Harbaugh has in his favor is his brother no doubt will help him get up to speed. I still say harbaugh has a 30% chance of being successful.

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Dolphins are willing to make Jim Harbaugh the HIGHEST paid coach in the NFL. Dumbasses

Signs continue to point towards the Dolphins landing Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach.greggsand wrote:Wherever he goes, he'll be the highest paid coach. I still think he'll go to the 49ers.
Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News has a source that says “all indications” are that Harbaugh will accept Miami’s huge offer.
“Not a done deal, but everything is pointing that way,” Kawakami said.

Re: NFL Season 2010
The only thing I can think of is that Harbaugh is getting a lot of pub now, not just out here but after the Rose Bowl win. Probably being associated with the putative first pick of the NFL draft, developing Luck into the franchise QB of the draft, gives him this luster.
Some 49ers fans are saying that Nepotism Jed, the 29-year old son of the owners who is the team president, should get into a bidding war with Miami because he had said money was no object.
So maybe there's a belief, at least out here, that he'd help sell tickets. Because even the offer the 49ers have on the table can't only be based on his coaching value alone.
Harbaugh may be able to lean on his brother but the similarities to Spurrier are hard to ignore -- former NFL QB, makes a mark in college (as an offensive guru) and an overzealous owner gives him the most lucrative contract as first-time NFL coach.

Re: NFL Season 2010
No matter what happens, Sparano simply cannot be the coach next year. He has to be fired now no matter what. And Harbaugh will be a good coach...not a "richest in the nfl coach" but a good one. I'd much rather the Dolphins take a chance on a new up and comer than to use a retread or one of the "I control everything" type guys like Cowher or Gruden.
Truthfully, as long as the Dolphins get a creative Offensive Coordinator, I think a lot of issues will be resolved offensively. Henning had just run his course (along with his vaunted Wildcat). Oh and they'll probably need a running back since Brown and Williams will probably both be gone. Hello Mark Ingram (hopefully).

Re: NFL Season 2010
Well Carolina has to be pissed that Luck is staying in school next year. Wow. Sucks for them, but I guess he is playing it smart. Who on earth would want to go to Carolina? A cheap owner that has clearly stated he doesn't want to spend on coaching...I guess it's an easy decision.
Re: NFL Season 2010
Dumb decision, especially since Locker in the same conference stayed and now has worse prospects than last year. Lighting up the Pac 10 again isn't going to raise his draft prospects.
Carolina might get the first pick again next year. Whenever the new CBA is hammered out, rookie contracts may not be as lucrative as they have been.
Even Frank Lloyd Wright would go for the money instead of pursuing a degree in Architectural Design.

I wish my worst decision in life was to stay in school and get a degree from Stanford.

Unless he felt he wasn't ready?
It's stupid decision from this standpoint. College will always be there, the money might not.

You have to figure that the impending lockout had to play a part in his decision though. Why not stay in school when you have no idea what to expect as far as a season and payday is concerned? I think it's the smart decision.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Anyone who says staying in school to get your architecture degree is a dumb decision is an idiot. Just ask Ryan Leaf and any other "can't miss" prospect who's toiling around in obscurity now without their degree. Luck will be an NFL guy this year or next...there are very few career ending injuries these days, so he's hedging his bets. That degree from Standford may make him more money over his life than an NFL contract would anyway. Who knows.
Re: NFL Season 2010
No the point is, school will always be there. Stanford isn't closing up shop tonight. He can return after playing football and finish his degree.dbdynsty25 wrote:Anyone who says staying in school to get your architecture degree is a dumb decision is an idiot. I think Scoop's point is spot on. He would go if there wasn't a lock out threat. Either way, you can always go back to college but the window for money in the NFL can be small. Let's say Luck gets injured and drops from a sure #1 to lower, that's millions of dollars. Take the money now because you can always go back to college. But like scoop said, if he gets drafted and there's a lockout that means no pay and I would think you couldn't go back to college though I don't know. So that's a year of not playing football, which would be disastrous for a young QB.
