I should also say that since you've got me and the "board" talking rules we dead set on implementing a head set rule starting with the playoff's. I'll post the rule later once we're set on it.
I'm telling you know for the guys who don't have one or this might be a problem for. This one is not even going to be up for debate so If this chases anyone off I am sorry but the no headset stuff is bothering a lot of people.
I would wait until I post the rule before anyone does anything.

I had two disconnects trying to play the same game against the CPU. It was I think the second game of the season and I was trying to play early in the morning and the EA servers were just wonky I guess, so I waited to play later that day.
The only other issue I have had connecting was with Mark (saints) because of router issues most likely.

I don't have a problem with a headset rule, I'll just do what I do in Xbox Live games and plug it in and lay it on the couch beside me. Keeps the sounds from coming through the speakers anyway.Danimal wrote:I should also say that since you've got me and the "board" talking rules we dead set on implementing a head set rule starting with the playoff's. I don't get what the big problem is with the headset. Playing somebody without one is even less fun than playing the computer. I read before where it's an issue with "concentration", but seriously? I have no real interest playing what amounts to a CPU game with somebody else calling the plays and/or playing silently.Badgun wrote:I don't have a problem with a headset rule, I'll just do what I do in Xbox Live games and plug it in and lay it on the couch beside me. To me, that's a reason that maybe an online league isn't the best place to play, to paraphrase your earlier comment.

Ok I was gonna post this once and decided not to, but I read some more and I just have to get it off my chest...............
I hope this post doesn't get too long winded and I don't step on too many toes..........but I feel I need to chime in on this disconnect thing. I read through most all of the posts since Danimal posted about my win, and I must say I didn't post earlier as I was a little heated and thought I would say something I shouldn't, so I gave it time to cool down. I got to the firehouse tonight and thought I would lift, not sure if it was the music I listened to or what, but I just kept stewing over some of the comments made and I got a little upset about it again.
First and foremost, I was honest about what happened. I posted on here as soon as it did AND I sent Danimal a PM about it. I could have just re-started and played it not saying a thing but I didn't. I asked what to do and offered to let it go sim'ed. I am sorry it happened and didn't notice my girl with the remote until it was too late. I also don't use that remote as I have a Harmony I use. It didn't even register at first what had happened.
Now with that said, I realize a little of your humor Scoop, but I still felt it was unnecessary. Don't take this the wrong way but things could have been different anyhow had you not hurt your hand. I got my ass handed to me by the CPU and a very good Ravens team (compared to the lowly Browns) Now, I am not saying the results would have been different had you played that game, but I did beat you the 2nd meeting and I feel confident I could have the first time. Please don't take that wrong, but its just the fact one of my losses was at the hand of your CPU controlled team.
I am sure this is going to stir s*** again, but I had to say my peace. I was not about to set back and feel like I am being walked on or that I am being accused of shady s***. I have a blast with everyone in here and have no problems with anyone and NEVER have.
With all that said, I have two game restarted. The very first game of the season against the Vikings (Hum) We got disco during a good and close game then I got my ass handed to me the second time around. The 2nd restart is the aforementioned incident with my little girl and the remote.

I've had two instances where I lost connection just as the game started. Fortunately, I didnt get as far as the coin toss, so it wasnt a big deal. Both times it happened against human opponents; Zep and Rob.
Otherwise my connection has been rock solid.
G7, when can we play?

I already stated i told you to replay it, trust me i didn't know this was going to turn into this. I guess with the season coming to an end everyone is heated to make the playoffs. You didn't do anything wrong and I'm sorry if something I said offended you.
We're still be looking at some rules but I'm not sure what just yet.

Guys, I'd encourage you all to forgive and forget and move on. We're all fortunate to be a part of this league. Every guy I've dismantled, I mean played, has been a class act.
Danimal has his hands full and I truely appreciate his efforts. I hope we can stick together and finish this together. Flaws and all this is way too much fun. Hang in there and lets do this.

Its all good Danimal! Hell, I may have came back to beat them in the first game who knows. I was coming off a score.
One other thing I would like to add Scoop, we would be tied still if I loss, with that said I looked up tie breakers and I think I had an edge when it came down to an actual tie. Head to head we are tied, then it goes division where I have a one game lead, then it moves to Conference where I had a 3 game lead.
I know it probably doesn't make you feel better, but it does put things into perspective a little more as far as our race goes.

At the risk of stirring up more aggravation, I have to speak to the issue of the headset requirement.
I think it's grossly unfair to require that people use it for the playoffs. I'm not thrilled with requiring it under any circumstances, but to mandate its use in a league where there was no mandate at sign-up time smacks me as an ex post facto bit of authoritarianism serving no particularly important purpose.
Look, I'm a headset user. Many who've endured my nattering have almost certainly wished otherwise, but I enjoy what it brings to the experience. Nevertheless, people signed up to a league knowing that they don't use a headset and knowing that the league did not require them to do so. To change that for the current season is unfair and a bit petty, IMO.
I don't feel that all that much is lost if my opponent doesn't have a headset, but I can understand revisiting the issue after the season. That'll give owners who may want to bail over this issue an appropriate time to do so and give us a reasonable chance to replace them at a convenient break in the franchise.

I have to agree with Rob that it would be unfair to make the change to mandatory headsets in the midst of the season. It is something we should deal with between seasons.
However, I must make it clear that the main reason headsets would be required is so that players can deal with issues like the disconnects and uniform conflicts with ease, as well as issues like this leagues' house rule regarding automatic declining of delay of game penalties on the first first down of a new possession.
I've already had two non- headset opponents take time outs in that situation when if they had a headset I could remind them about this league's house rule (or is that times out?). If I had been the one with the ball and my opponent had taken the delay of game penalty, I can tell you I would have been absolutely livid. This is a house rule we have adopted - everyone must follow it.
Also I noticed at least one game's highlights where both teams were wearing white. Personally, I would be livid again if that happened in one of my games. The only reason it didn't happen in my game with Gamer is because I took a chance and knew he is a true Cowboys fan, but when I got to the matchup screen he was already 'ready' and I had no way of knowing if we was wearing white or not.
These are the kinds of things that I feel would require headset use. Certainly stating that one would plug it in and leave it on the couch is the height of immaturity and unfriendliness toward the league as a whole and the specific opponent. It's not about the fact that it's plugged in (who could possibly tell?); it's abou being able to communicate with your opponent when these odd issues come up.

Nozzle, I honestly said that with tongue-in-cheek and not once did I accuse you of making anything up. If you took that way, I apologize.
As confident as you are that you would have won the first game I''m just as confident that I would have won too. This isn't the first time you've made this claim either so I don't know why you feel the need to consistently bash my Madden abilities.
I joined this league to have fun. Looking back at the last 2 weeks, I'm not having fun. That being said I'm going to take a break from this league.

I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I was feeling a bit cold so I came to this thread to bask in all the heated exchanges:) Isn't it pretty funny how serious this league got all of a sudden?
My two cents (from a former GM
)- I don't think anybody in this league is shady enough to do a preconceived disconnect while losing. We all know how terrible the EA servers are - I mean if CPU disconnects are possible with one connection, it seems pretty obvious that a two-player connection to the EA servers would be more ripe for a disconnect.
Also I think the mic rule is great but hopefully people aren't expecting a game of "How's the weather out there?" I'm not a particularly chatty mic user so I hope this doesn't turn into people complaining that one guy never said anything or wasn't talking enough. That being said if someone did want to disconnect why would having a mic on deter them?

Cowboys move to 10-3 after annihilating the Chargers 48-19.
Who needs Marion Barber? The injured back will be returning from his 5 week stint on the injured list with a herniated disk within 2 weeks, but he may be returning to the number three slot on the RB depth chart. The Cowboys co-backup running backs Tashard Choice and Felix Jones showed today why there was no need to bring in a free agent to replace the injured Barber. After fumbling early in the first quarter that was nearly lost, Felix Jones redeemed himself amassing 356 total kickoff return yards which included two TD returns of 97 and 98 yds respectively. Jones almost broke a third return before being brought down at the Charger 16 yd line. Jones also added 97 rushing yds which also included a 54 yd TD run.
Not to be outdone, Tashard Choice rushed for 144 yds on 9 carries including 2 TD runs. of 27 and 45 yds respectively
QB Tony Romo was relegated to handing the ball off to the TD duo, but was able to manage 1 td pass to TE Jason Witten, TO be damned.
However, with all of the heroics, the Madden Player of the Game went to OLB DeMarcus Ware, who led a Dallas D in harassing Charger QB Rivers. Ware was able to get to Rivers for 1 sack and when he wasn't in his face, Ware dropped back in coverage to intercept an errant pass and return it untouched 79 yards. The Boys coach however, handed two game balls to the more deserviing running back duo of Choice and Jones.
Marion Barber will be returning in time for the Boys to face the hated Redskins in two weeks in a heated division battle that will have playoff implications. In the meanwhile the Boys will make do with Choice and Jones against the lowly Saints as they try to enhance their conference record and hope for help from the rest of the league against Chicago.

WHOA WHOA WHOA! I never once said a thing about you Madden skills. I just made reference to the fact the CPU beat me and I was bitter about it!
Don't leave on account of me. I would much rather leave since I caused all the drama. In all honesty I did take your post wrong even though I said i did sense some humor in it, I just didn't feel it.
Scoop I mean it I am not bashing your skills. I know you can beat me on any given day. Don't leave!

Ok let me get this straight.
Scoop quit.
Fine I get it for the playoffs i won't require headsets.
Lots of complaining over disconnects.
All this with 4 weeks left in the season?
Whatever guys we'll finish out the season the way things have been running for the last 2 months and then we'll sort it all out and see who is left.

Scoop, you call this comment by me as badgering your skills. Come on brother!! It was wishful thinking by me!
"Scoop, great game brother! Not to take anything from this win for me, but all I can think about is not having to play the CPU when you were hurt. Not that I would have won, but I can't help but wonder. "
This was posted in my game recap of the 2nd meeting.

Zeppo, I don't appreciate that comment one bit. Height of immaturity? Give me an f-ing break.Zeppo wrote: Certainly stating that one would plug it in and leave it on the couch is the height of immaturity and unfriendliness toward the league as a whole and the specific opponent. I'm not a headset user...period. The only time I wear one is when I am playing with real life friends and even then I only say what is needed to be said. When I lay it on the couch beside me, I do it so I don't have to hear the incessant whining of some 13 year old brat while I am playing Call of Duty or something like that. Plugging the headset in keeps the sounds from coming through my speakers.
If for something arises like you mention, then I can easily pick it up and resolve the issue...I don't need to keep it on to play the game.
As for your unfriendliness statement, I've exchanged pleasantries after the game with nearly all my opponents via text messages. I don't think anyone that I've played feels I was unsociable.
I'm sick of hearing about the mic issue. If it is required, I will plug it in, say hi and bye and leave it on the couch beside me. If that's not good enough, then I will drop from the league. The last thing I need is some condescending prick telling me I need to talk in order to play football.
Let's calm down. This is not some random group of cheesers in a league -- we have all been on this board for a while and every person in the league is a good guy.
I think the tension about making the playoffs is a sign that this league is working. There's been great competition and having these heated playoff races is a big bonus.
We have been playing under the same set of rules all season. While we definitely will look at some changes for the next season, we should ride the current rules out until the end of this season.
There's nothing at all unfair about having disconnected games replayed if that's what everyone has been doing. It's every bit as fair as having a game simmed, especially since there seems to be little rhyme or reason in the Madden sims results. We can look at some new ways to resolve this, but remember that we're talking about the EA servers -- we're going to run into disconnects.
As for the headset rule, let's also leave that until the next season. I like talking with someone, but I've also had very entertaining games against players who don't use them.
I got into this league because I like Madden 10 and I like the owners. I had hoped I would do better, and honestly I could have thrown in the towel weeks ago after a series of tough losses. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I still look forward to every game because of the spirit of competition here. Everyone I have played has been a good sport, whether we talked or not, and testing myself against a good group of Madden players has been a lot of fun in spite of the losing. That's what motivates me to play.
We've managed to put together a very good season. We've only lost two owners, with Mac being welcome to come back when his schedule permits. Let's not throw away a good thing over this stuff.
