Failed attempt at humor. The play screens are well done. The player, in this case I, sux. .
I'm just not sure why it appears so different to me but the animations make more sense. If a guy gets hit and he is unbalanced he goes down hard. Hard hitters like Dawkins are delivering blows that lead with the shoulder and bring guys to the ground.
I can't explain it, it just looks right more then wrong a good percentage of the time.

It wasn't an attempt at humor, I was seriously curious.

I didnt mean you. I meant I was trying to be funny. Thats how bad the attempt was
As for Ask Madden. EA! How bout a way to turn that bullshit off?
The automatic punt block calls are old too...
So I just realized something after playing a bunch of games post patch #2.
I can't win. I lost 7 straight games to the CPU, I went back to default sliders and I still lost. I also noticed the pass rush has gotten worse for me. I used to be able to generate pressure but now since the animations seem to trigger more I an not getting any pressure. It's not uncommon for a QB to sit back there for 9+ seconds. The fact that they move, step up and scramble has also made it that much harder.
So I was thinking I was having placebo effect with this patch since I seem to be the only one who sees a difference, but losing 7 games to the cpu has never happened to me before. Maybe I just really suck.

I haven't been playing much, Dan, due to my disappointment with the replays and the patch coming out after the Steelers' season has effectively been ended, but I'm also having a helluva time getting any pressure on the QB's when I do play. I played the Jags in a playoff game yesterday and every time I got close, Gerrard still ended up getting rid of a lame duck pass (one of which hit an offensive lineman on the head, but no penalty was called). I think I'm about ready to permanently shelve the game in favor of NBA2k10, NHL10 and NHL2k10. Still too many things that get under my skin for me to get motivated to fire up Madden anymore.
I think it's really changed the game. The flats passes no longer work, simple little drags won't work all the time, and the pass rush has been changed significantly.
I still get 4 to 6 sacks a game, but I'm moving the DL and stunting them different directions, faking blitzes, and realigning guys every snap. I will play the middle zone or spy quite often, and absolutely hammer the QB if he tries to scramble. Out of 7 franchise games post-patch, I've knocked the QB out of 3 of them.
My running game has really struggled, especially runs to the outside, as the linebackers no longer take that "false" step that they used to. It made running to the edges too easy, and same with any wildcat plays. They'd leave huge unattended gaps on those. No more.
In fact, most of the defense has become a bit more sound. That's forced me to do a lot of things differently on offense, but my tailbacks are usually in the 20-25 carry for 100 yard range now. It used to be where I'd carry 25 times for 200 against the CPU.
I've found them to be quite a bit more feisty, though. Many times I've gone into halftime down by 4 or in a tie game, or something really close. So one mistake and I'm sure it would get ugly.
That's what it has come to for me Terry. Most games are usually really good close contest at halftime. But if I make one mistake it gets exploited, it's almost like that adaptive AI they hyped has finally showed up. For example I play Nickle Velcro a lot and now the QB just runs if nothing is open. I call the same play like cover 2 or cover 3 a lot in a row and the AI exploits it. They can hit that seem in the cover 2 really well.
I'll contain a guy like Portis the whole game but if I call one wrong Defense and they happen to have a right play called and wham. I used to hit a lot of drag routes but they aren't always open or take longer for the guy to come free. It also for me has become extremely hard to hit deep routes, the holes are there but the timing needs to be a lot better.
Frankly I am worried about my next cpu game in the OF, I think I could lose it. As for the duck passes, I've seen one floater, now they usually hold the ball or the ball goes into the ground. For example by QB got hit on the blindside while in the motion of passing and instead of a duck it went right into the ground.
To me this is the game Madden should of been on release and then gotten tuned from there. It's a vast improvement for me.

I agree, but there are certain things about it that are still somewhat head-scratching. I may be seeing things that aren't there, but I'm pretty confident I can "fool" lower rated CPU QB's into reading things that aren't there. Case in point, I blitzed MLB Kirk Morrison 2 or 3 times out of a 4-4 formation and then dropped him into a short zone. Still faked the blitz with the Y-and-left coverage audible, so he came up to the line.
QB snapped, tossed a quick slant, Morrison nabbed the pick. I was able to completely stifle the passing attack of the Chiefs by throwing out blitzes from way back, or faking blitz and having 8 guys in coverage. Morrison actually tied the NFL record for 4 INT's in a game without me controlling him at all.
That's pretty bizarre.
I'm also pretty confident that there are much better matchups on the lines now. When I find a low-rated offensive lineman, I will absolutely go after him. What this creates are a bunch of multi-sack games for particular DL or LB's. Whereas before it didn't seem to matter if it was a 74 OL or a 94, I'm having a much tougher time sending a blitz against the higher-rated offensive linemen, especially if it's in awareness.
I'll scout my opponent's offensive line before the game, and find the weakest links as far as awareness and overall. I'll send an extra man at that defender once or twice early to see what happens. Frequently it will be two quick-hit sacks or QB throws for a pick. Then I'll start to completely pick on the guy and you'll find there are people you can "abuse" in the game. It really is the closest I've seen to the real chessmatch that goes into gameplanning has created.
Conversely, an opponent I had was able to exploit my rookie corner when I had him starting ahead of a slower, aging corner. He gave up like 4 big completions in the first half. I then moved him to the nickel back and left the vet starting as the 2nd corner and the rookie dominated slot receivers--but wasn't quite up to task against the better starters.
It's really become a game of matchups for me. Instead of focusing on plays in their entirety, start looking at who you can exploit on the defense. I'm betting you'll have better luck. It takes a bit more work, but spend some time before kickoff looking for a slow LB to match up on a TE, or whether their DT's are weaker than the OLB, etc. You'll find you can continually hammer away on one particular side of the D with run plays if they're weaker there.
It really helps blow those close games out if you know who to attack instead of just looking to hit a play based on the defense you think you are attacking.

It's interesting that you guys are finding the flats no longer work. In my game yesterday against the Jags, I hit Mendenhall on a dump pass coming out of the backfield and he was able to pick up 32 yards for a score. Later in the game, I hit Mewelde Moore coming out of the backfield and he gained 18 yards on the play. I also thought the flats seemed to be fixed when I first started playing after the patch, but yesterday's game had me wondering otherwise. Maybe it was just the one game, maybe I need to adjust some sliders (I'm playing on the My Skill level), or maybe I need to download the patch again somehow.
Well the flats are going to be open sometimes, it's just a matter of personnel and play calling. I've hit the flats for some good gainers, even on screens. But before hand I could count on picking up 7+ yards on flats and abuse screens and now it doesn't happen.
I don't think if flats always were covered it would be good either. Also if you hitting mid ranged passes a lot then go to the flat it is open. It's drag where I notice a bigger difference, LB in hook zones are right on the guys and follow them across the zone. Sometimes they completely blow a coverage but for the most part it is challenging.
I'm not going to sit here and say I haven't seen head scratching stuff, I have. But the frequency is a lot lower and the AI seems to be playing a lot smarter. I think part of the reason for reduced sacks is because the linemen AI is improved and my techniques don't work any more. I used to be able to swim, spin out of anything fast. Now they take me up field and I have to work the linemen and just not frantically try moves.
Terry,
This is why you'll win always, I wouldn't take the time to do that I'm just too lazy LOL.

Any play will work depending on the coverage. What I'm talking about are plays where the LBs would be in man to man and ignore the RB's leaving the backfield. If they're blitzing or in zone (or just slow), it's possible.
It's just that it won't work every single time. I've had a couple of huge plays on screens, but it's not an automatic 20 to 30 yards every time I do it now. Frequently they'll get tackled for no gain, or hit a tiny 2 or 3 yard gain.
I played a few games on all pro default, and I agree that it feels much better than before the patch. I too struggled beating the cpu, something that hadn't happened since the first couple of weeks the game was out. The problem is, this patch is just a little too late for me, as I had a hard time getting into any of the games I played. Too bad this isn't the state the game was released in.

Couldn't agree more. Madden has been traded in a long time ago for me.. it's becoming the trend in sports games to have the public test them for you and maybe after 2-3 patches, the game is in the shape it should have been upon release.
Maybe it's the economy and less beta testers?
It's almost to the point where it's time to start waiting until months after a sports game is released to see if it's been patched up yet.
I know nobody cares about this but me, but I always wondered why EA stuck with Tiburon during the very rough stretch Madden and NCAA had over the past 5 or 6 years. I figured someone at Tiburon must be related to someone high up at EA or something. A twitter post from Ian Cummings just gave me my answer:
"EA COO John Schappert is visiting Tiburon today, haven't seen him in 5+ years! (he is a Tiburon founder, and head honcho when I got hired)."
So for anyone who cares i went back to defaults and I was winning games and never felt out of control. The game still played 100 times better but I was able to shut down the AI offense.
Now i need to find a balance between my pre-patch 2 sliders which were just un-winnable post patch 2 and defaults.

Well remember last week Scoop locked that OS thread. Well It got me curious as to what is going on over there since I had not been there for a while.
Well I found they have an AWESOME Madden rosters section.
Anyway, after the SB, I was getting really desperate to play some videogame football. Madden 11 sucked for me, no way I am rebuying that, but those guys over at OS made 2011 rosters for Madden 10!!! And I L-O-V-E-D Madden 10.
I rebought Madden 10 for 10 bucks and what a awesome game compared to 11. It just comes off the tv so much nicer plus the game is more balanced than 11 which is all over the place. I don't mind the announcer since the gameplay is so solid.
So the whole roster thing for 360 looks very convoluted but I'm willing to give it a try. Has anyone else uploaded rosters to Madden games? Any advice. I'm willing to give it a try and if it works, I'll post the roster file up here if I can.
I hear you man. I also hated M11, thought it was crap. I thought M10 showed a lot of promise and was actually fun to play so after that dawned on me I traded in M10 for M11 and regretted it. I traded M11 to Amazon and bought M10 for a second time btw I have an unused online pass if you need one.
How about a link to those rosters? Is it difficult to import them into M11?
Here is the thread I found over at OS with the 2011 Rosters for MADDEN 10 XB360. The whole things looks really complicated to someone who is new to this roster stuff. Looks like this guy already made the roster and from reading the thread it looks like it's just transferring it over to the XB which is the hard part.
Rodster : I got it to work, took me a few hours though. Just follow the directions on those links. Just remember to change the name of your roster file you get off Madden to the same name as the guy's file who posted the roster, that was the tricky part.
Easy way to do this is just create a new Roster save on the game, but name it JAN2011 (all caps). Also rename that guys file to all caps JAN2011 - but it has to have the 'ROSTER' thing in front of it. So it will look like 'ROSTER-JAN2011'.
The whole thing is a pain in the ass if you're not a techy person like me, but it's worth it. You're getting Madden 11 NFL Jan Rosters for the superior Madden 10 game. It doesn't have the last Madden 11 Feb update that came out a few days ago post superbowl, but it's close enough. I read on OS the only major upgrades to the Madden 11 Feb update were Packers guys with better ratings like Rodgers so you can do that manually on Madden 10 after you load the rosters.
I guess you can't attach files on these boards but let me know if you have any problems with getting the Jan 2011 roster file to Madden 10. Ill try to help. But I think I'll be playing this until Madden 12 comes out - IF - M12 is any good and not bs like M11 was. If no NFL season, I may just play w/ these on Madden 10 for another year.
