The Jacksonville Jaguars rode a ball-hawking secondary and a big game by Maurice Jones-Drew to beat the Houston Texans 38-21. The win moves Jacksonville to 8-4, keeping them in the thick of the AFC South race.
The Jaguars struck early when they recovered a fumble by Houston returner Jacoby Jones on the opening kickoff, picking it up returning it for a 7-0 lead. Houston tied the game late in the first after forcing a Jacksonville fumble, making it 7-7 on Steve Slaton's one-yard touchdown plunge.
It took only two plays for the Jaguars to recover its seven-point lead. Jones-Drew took a handoff up the middle, broke a tackle, and sprinted for a 69-yard touchdown and a 14-7 Jacksonville lead. Jones finished with 156 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns.

The Texans tied the game again at 14 before the half, with Andre Johnson taking a pass to the flat and juking his way into the endzone.

The Texans would implode in the second half, with Matt Schaub throwing four costly interceptions. Leading 17-14 in the third, Jacksonville picked off Schaub. The next drive led to David Gerrard hitting Greg Jones on a play-action pass for a 5-yard touchdown, making it 24-14. Steve Slaton quickly cut the lead with an 80-yard touchdown run, breathing life back into a Texans squad looking for its first win against a human opponent.
But the wheels fell completely off as the Jacksonville secondary capitalized on Schaub's mistakes. Safety Reggie Nelson scored early in the fourth when he picked off a pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown, giving Jacksonville a 31-21 lead.

On Houston's next possession, Schaub was hit while throwing, allowing Jaguar defensive end to grab the floating ball for an interception. Jones-Drew scored on a 12-yard run several plays later to put the Jaguars ahead 38-21. The Texans drove down the field again, but Schaub threw his fifth and final interception of the game, sealing the win for Jacksonville.
The Jaguars next face a tough game against 9-1 Miami, while the Texans will likely just crawl into a bottle until the pain becomes numb.

Great game, Wayne. Terrific work with MJD and in the secondary.

The Bears continued their winning ways, eeking out a narrow 24-17 victory over the game St. Louis Rams. The Bears D continued to be hit or miss but came up big when needed, holding the visiting Rams to a 40% third-down conversion rate and forcing a huge turnover to seal the win. Jay Cutler continued to play well, going 16/22 for 243 yds and 2 TD's. Matt Forte was effective with 103yds on 19 carries.
The Rams took it right to the Bears, opening with a 13-play 80 yard drive that was capped off by a 2yd Steven Jackson TD run. The Bears answered back on the first play from scrimmage, with Cutler finding Devin Hester across the middle. Hester, showing an uncharacteristic ability to break tackles, shrugged off 2 DB's and raced 71 yards to paydirt.
The Bears looked like they were going to take the lead early in the 2nd quarter, but Cutler was pressured into throwing a terrible pass that was picked off by Bradley Fletcher. The Rams took advantage of the miscue with a 4:00 drive that ended in a 6yd TD reception by Steven Jackson. The Bears were able to respond by grinding out a long drive that nearly ran out the half and saw Cutler hit Joe Walsh for a 13-yd TD. The teams went into the half tied at 14.
The Bears took the kickoff opening the second half and rode Matt Forte's back on a long 4:00 drive of their own, culminating in a 6yd TD strike by Cutler, who found Des Clark in the end zone. Both defenses started to tighten at this point, with the teams exchanging FG's in the early part of the 4th quarter. The Rams looked like they had cut the Bears lead to 3 with 3:00 left, but an Antonio Pittman TD reception was called back because a challenge revealed that he had stepped out of bounds. It seemed that the player's foot was safely inside the boundary, but the officials saw conclusive evidence to the contrary, and the Rams could only kick a FG to make the game 24-17.
The Bears were unable to grind out the remainder of the game, and Bulger had one last chance to equalize for the Rams. On a 2nd and 10 with 1:39 seconds he launched a laser for Donnie Avery across the middle only to see Kevin Payne make a spectacular interception to effectively end the game.

Crazy game, 34. Not only was there the phantom reversal, but the INT was screwy and the stats were all F'ed up. Somehow Alex Brown got credit for 4yds passing despite having no attempts, and you still got credit for the Pittman TD in the stats LOL I've been ridiculously fortunate over the last 3-4 games and I'm expecting it all to come crashing down soon.
And what's the deal with replays? All the key plays in this game had truncated replays with the exception of the one I posted.

I would have posted that Slaton run, but the replay didn't pick up until after he made his last move to get in the clear. I was standing in my family room by the end of that onewayne23 wrote:Good game Brando...and once again great write up. Man i'm still playing back that 80 yd. TD run by Slaton. That was beast and the timing couldn't have been better. Thought I got a few breaks there...never the less great game my friend.

Really good job running with the Oompa Loompa and just some great pass defense in the second half. Oh, and a great play action on that five-yard toss to Greg Jones, completely faked me out. Good luck with the division race.
You cant stop him. You can only hope to contain him.Danimal wrote:Matt Forte might be the most over rated player in Madden.

You played a very solid game with terrific play calling. Great mix ...Very hard to get you off of the field.
I didnt think it was that crazy. The only thing screwy about that INT was the bright idea to throw the ball there. I did my best Brett Favre trying to ram the ball into the opening and misjudged the window. Robinson was just out fought for that ball.
The replay reversal was pretty much the only thing really nutty. Real time it did look like he stepped out but the replay showed him clearly in. Oh well . These are the things you must accept when you play as the Rams.

Good luck to who ever comes out of that tough NFC East. You will need it. The Bears will be very hard to beat in Chicago come January.
The Rams are only in line for a playoff spot(And I aint counting it as a done deal yet) due to their notre dame like special deal with the league and cream puff cpu schedule.

Oh I didn't mean anything at you by that comment. I play with the Bears in offline as you know and the guys ratings are seriously over rated in the roster build we used. If he progresses anything like he did for me in year 2 he will be a beast next year.RobVarak wrote:They ran him into the ground last year and I think they're paying the price now. Guy sheds tackles like crazy, is hard to bring down and had a burst to get away from defenders. Pretty much the anti-real Forte. Of course everyone breaks way too many tackles, I bumped up the tackling slider offline a lot which has cut it down but it needs some serious tweaking for next year. Running in this game is just too easy.

I took no offense. I think he's about right given the way he played last season and the way that running works in the game. Hester is the guy who's ridiculous! I don't think I've ever seen him break out of solid contact in real life, and I regularly break 2-3 tackles on a single run with him...and I suck!Danimal wrote:Oh I didn't mean anything at you by that comment. They also can't model the fact that he's easily one of the dumbest WR's in the league. In game he runs perfect routes, and while he doesn't have great hands still catches balls that he wouldn't even try for in real life.
I'm not complaining, mind you...and I'll keep using him to death. Ted Ginn is the same way in the few games I've played with the Dolphins, actually.
Terry, I hope you don't mind if I don't return the compliment. If someone wants to knock you out of the AFC playoffs I won't complain.

That's assuming you make it to the Super Bowl. I'm sure the Giants, Redskins, Eagles, Rams, and Falcons would all disagree.RobVarak wrote:Terry, I hope you don't mind if I don't return the compliment. If someone wants to knock you out of the AFC playoffs I won't complain.

That's also assuming I can make it past a single game in the playoffs. I like my chances, but you never know. Strange things can happen in these short games.
Last 4 games, the Raiders have outscored their opponents 134-6...34-0, 52-0, 17-6, and 31-0.
In Raiderland, that means I'm due to give up about 60 points next game.

Trust me this will be rectified next season. I should say this now so people understand that we will be increasing the time and the run off to 20.TCrouch wrote:Strange things can happen in these short games.
I haven't decided on a time yet, I've been playing test games online to see length. But count on at least 10 minutes.
I'd rather some of you know this now with the season drawing to a close. Also I am going to be tweaking the FA Release and Draft Rules a tad. In looking at the roster if I limit it to 70 guys an above that is going to hamstring a lot of people. Look for those new rules coming soon, but keep in mind the purpose of the FA Release and Draft is to stimulate player movement since the game lacks contracts.

Just disregard me. I'm just trying to incite the rest of the NFC so hopefully Rob will lose a damn game. Put the focus on him so my lucky wins will continue. I've greatly overacheived in this league.

Well after my lackluster performance against the Raiders last night and my struggles against the online franchise cpu teams I played an offline franchise game against the Packers and put up 40 points on them with all-pro level 15 sec runoff, only difference from this league is I use 10 minute quarters, that took my record to 10-4 so I do well against the cpu offline. I guess my online franchise team has just gotten used to losing, hopefully it will turn around next season.
And my pick for the AFC so far would be Terry and his Raiders as I could do absolutely nothing against him offensively or defensively, only glimmer of hope I had were a couple of times only needing one more block for a really good kick return. Looking forward to playing spoiler for the rest of this season.

Ha, I couldn't beat a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest right now. I make more bad passes than Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd in the Czechoslovakian Brothers sketches and my defense often resembles the French army in Indochina.TCrouch wrote:I hate you Brando. Yea I feel kinda bad about it. I am not saying I was beat in the first meeting but I was down and I was struggling as well. This game didn't go too much better short of winning. Rivers made some stupid plays and threw some picks that helped A LOT. I was also able to move the ball when I has short field as results of the picks. I also think my D played better because the Chargers drove the length of field to the 3yd line and I held them to a FG. Seemed like it boosted the D's play.Danimal wrote:Looks like the Browns restart game resulted in a Chargers loss which is good news for Terry and myself I guess. Not so much for the Ravens.
