Yeah...adding that orange button really f's me up. I can get 99-100 on medium on RB2 almost every time. But as soon as I go up to Hard, I can finish, but it's UGLY. On the Bass, I am a little better so the jump isn't that big (not a lot of combo chords obviously helps). On Guitar, it's ridiculous.

You have to perfect the slide. I find it easier for me to start most songs in "Red" (index finger on the red button) and slide up when I need to hit green. Once you learn the slide, hitting orange is not too hard.

Advice I have: pick a song you're good at on medium and play it with your index finger on red. You'll get used to sliding even though you're not using your pinky. Once that feels okay, try a few easy songs on Hard. It's not easy but you'll get the hang of it. I'm pretty ham-fisted in this game (my solos tend to sound like a coked-up Neil Young playing in a moving dryer) but I can usually get 4-5 stars on the easier songs and 3-4 on the harder ones on Hard.

The problem with starting with your index on red is that you've been playing the game from the start with it on green, so it Fs with your head. You think you're pressing green when you use the index finger! I tried that. I suppose I just have to get used to it. The game is too simple on medium...so I might as well just change to hard and learn it again.

You will get used to it. I finished GHII on medium always keeping my index finger on green, and couldn't get through the first minute of the first song at when I changed to Hard. That's why trying the slide on medium first is a good idea -- you can focus on learning the slide without introducing a new button as well. Eventually, the moving will become more natural and you'll find you can jump between the two positions much more automatically.

Also, for some people, sliding down is easier. I just find it simpler to move up to green

Dammit, I can't play Dammit! :(

This is the first song I've come across on Expert Drums that I'm worried I won't be able to play. Don't get me wrong, there are many I haven't passed yet, but most of them are tricky because of tricky patterns that you have to learn by practice. After some playtime I can usually get those. For this one, I just can't seem to manage the hit speed that you need to maintain for the song. It's not really all that complex of a chart.

I'm thinking if I go to newer, more 'bouncy' drums that might help somewhat. (I'm on the RB1 kit)

Otherwise, anyone have any tips for simply increasing hand speed? Maybe a grip or something?

Jerk off while you're on the crapper, not only does it take care of two bodily functions at once but you have to do it quick before people start to notice or your legs fall asleep.

Just Kidding

No really try it.

I just started whackin' it with both hands. Increases you're speed immeasurably. Never thought there'd be a correlation, but there is. It helps with Skate 2 as well FYI.

I well-understood the type of repsonses I would probably receive based on the question I asked, but even so, I find myself a bit surprised (and a little squicked out) by the direction and specificity of Dan's offering.

Yeah, even I was a bit surprised...you'd have thought GROG himself had morphed into Dan for the time it took to post that.

Expert?!? Expert?!? I'm still on medium. If expert is like a full or "real" drum chart, then there will be pales in songs wherre you'll have to hit a certain pad with both sticks. I've done that on a few songs on medium just from knowing how it would be done on a real kit and trying to mimic that as much as possible.

After only 2 weeks of DLC for Rock Band on the Wii, I've pretty much written off GH. I'll still play GH3 and WT a bit, but Rock Band will be getting the most play. The DLC for GHWT is already behind it, and after seeing what the Wii has (hopefully) coming based on the 360 DLC out there, I'll be set with RB2 and DLC for a loooong time.

Well I was offended! I can't believe Dan used a word like "crapper"!!! :)

Seriously though, if you want to increase speed, you have to practice getting both hands working independently.

Drummers have an exercise where play this pattern

R-L-R-R-L-R-L-L

start slow and steady and try and work u speed.

Texas Flood full album release tomorrow, and I'm stoked!

RB needs more blues-rock! I'll take all of this, please, and throw in some Clapton again when you get a chance...

AWESOME news! Had no idea. I always though the blues/rock songs in GH were the most fun. They just made you really feel like you were playing.

Amen! Just scored 7th row seats for the Clapton-Winwood show at the United Center.

As far as SRV goes...well I was at Alpine Valley for his last show. 5th row. Best show I've ever seen...and I was on record as saying that before the tragedy even became known. He was untouchable that night.

Some of the songs included in the upcoming 'Classic' edition. I think they're stretching the word classic a bit.

"All Right Now" -- Free
"Can't Stand Losing You" -- The Police
"Closer to the Heart" -- Rush
"Holiday in Cambodia" -- Dead Kennedy's
"The Joker" -- Steve Miller Band
"Peace of Mind" -- Boston
"Rock and Roll Band" -- Boston
"Take the Money and Run" -- Steve Miller Band
