I received Rock Band for Wii as a Christmas gift. Before I pop it open (which will be a while because my four year old still hasn't opened all her gifts) Is there any difference between the Wii version and XBOX360? Thanks!

One thing you need to keep in mind with the Wii version is that the instruments for RB and GH will not mix, in other words you can't use them for the other game. So if you get the RB for Wii, you're stuck with the RB series and cannot try the GH games.

Other than that RB is almost identical on the various systems. And while they do sell Wii cd's with more songs on them, being able to download the ones you want on the 360 is very nice.

I just read that there is a cheat in RB2 for unlocking all of the songs. Are there any negative consequences to doing this (not even sure what they could be)? When I play with my wife or friends, I can't stand not having everything available to me or having to play the same mediocre song multiple times just to get through the tour - Playing on quick play seems much more appealing (I don't really care about high scores, stars, etc...)

Anyone try this out?

I haven't, but I if you try the cheat code it disables the earning of achievements, saving the game, and online features.

The cheat code is good for when you have a party and you want everything available to you. Plus once you input it, it a check box option in the menus so it is easy to turn on and off.

Actually, the code enables a toggle under "Modify Game". You can leave the toggle off when you are playing on your own for points and achievements, but turn it on when using it in a party manner. I actually do this frequently (with "No Fail Mode" as well) when entertaining and people of varying abilities want in on the action. There's no harm in entering the code and using it only when you feel like it. It also saves the fact that the code has been entered with your profile so in the future you need only go to "Modify Game" to enable it for that session.

What is the code for the unlock then?

I have the No Fail cheat enabled usually, since my kids love to play along with me. Having all of the songs available would be nice too.

Also, is there a way to get the songs from RB1 into RB2? I thought I heard that you would be able to.

Also, has anyone had a problem with their RB1 guitar not recognizing the "star power" when you tilt it? Mine rarely seems to do it, then if I tilt it and shake it a bit it seems to come on and stay on, so if my meter gets full it automatically activates whether or not I tilt the guitar. I may open it up to take a peek inside to see if it's something I can fix.

I am assuming you have a 360 so...

As far as using RB1 songs in RB2 - yes you can. There is an app on the XBL Marketplace which costs like $5 that allows you to import RB1 songs into RB2. You can then trade in the RB1 disc and get your $5+ back. If you don't have the RB1 disc just rent it and import the songs. No need for the RB1 disc after they are imported.

Yes. It saves them to the HD and then loads them in RB2 automatically. Works like a charm.

Well I went to the store and traded the Wii version for the 360 version. This game is a blast! My little girl (who is almost 5) is loving playing the drums while I play the guitar.

Is there anyway to set the game so it won't kick her out for missing notes?

Thanks.

I got RB2 and the drum kit for the Wii at Christmas. The GH3 guitar works perfectly with RB2, so not problems there. I was dissappointed to see that the drumkit will not work with GHWT, but o well. I think I may be going the Rock Band route from this point forward anyways.

The drum set has worked great. I also highly reccommend getting a couple of cymbals, as it makes playing the drums feel more authentic.

I was surprised at how much the wife and kids got into it. Our 8 year old can already pass a number of songs unassited, after only a coule of days.

We are slowly unlocking more songs as we patiently await the DLC for the Wii (which the box of course states will be out by holidays 2008 :) ).

The RB2 store for the Wii is finally up! I don't know any of the 20 free songs, but out of the 30 others there's about 7-8 I'll be purchasing tonight.

I really hope they eventually catch up to all the DLC that's out there for the 360 & PS3. If so, I'll be spending all my gaming $$$ on DLC instead of games the next few months.

Question for people who have played both RB and GH: My GH II guitar appears to be dead, with the strum not working. That leaves me with my RB 1 guitar, which I don't mind, except that the strum is not as responsive as the GH guitar, especially on fast songs. I suspect it may also be on it's last legs as it seems to drop notes sometimes.

Which guitar do you guys prefer? I haven't tried the RB 2 guitar or the new GH guitar, but my ideal toy guitar would have RB's large frets with the quick strum of GH.

I LOVE the GH:WT guitar. Granted, I haven't used the RB guitars, but the GH guitar is a great improvement over the previous ones, IMO.

It's really tough for me to say. I like both of them for different reasons.

The RB2 guitar has such smooth fret buttons that give a distinctive "click", and I can reach over the top with my thumb on the green button for some sections where I have bizarre chord changes pretty easily.

The GHWT guitar has a much more tactile strum button, and it's noticeably better than the RB2 guitar. If I had to pick between the two, I'd probably choose the GHWT guitar, although the RB2 is easier to play for me. On long sessions, my fingers tend to hurt with the GH guitar, whereas the entire neck is the fret button on RB2's axe, so it's easier to hit them.

I think it's largely a matter of preference, though each will do a decent job.

Your best bet is to go to your local Best Buy, which will likely have demos stations set up for each game allowing you to fiddle with each guitar and see which one is floats your boat.

Has anyone else had a problem moving up from Medium to Hard on guitar? I was bale to make the leap in GHWT, but in RB2 I having major problems getting through songs on hard. I feel like they should have had a level in between the two in RB2. The jump is pretty steep compared to GH.
