I think I had a tie in a previous season, but thanks!
I'll take a tie any day. Still looking for first W though.

Barcelona 2 FC Bayern Munchin 1

There is joy in Barcelona! The teams first "real" win came on the heels of a tie yesterday. Guily made it 1-0 at the 12 minute mark and then Ronaldinho had a burst of speed down the middle, gained some room and blasted it by the goalie at 39'. Barcelona tried a more defensive 5-4-1 formation to being the 2nd half to protect the lead, but it wasn't working. FC got on the board at 62' with a nice pass across the box to Pizzaro, who made no mistake and buried it. Barcelona switched back to a more conventional 4-4-2 and played conservative defense the rest of the way, trying to hold on to the slim lead. FC had some pressure in the Barcelona end as stoppage time wound down, including a couple of corners, but couldn't convert and the game finally ended 2-1.

Nice game Leeb!

Congrats, Jack! You earned it. That was one of the best games I've played online.

Thanks! Sorry my first win had to come at your expense :D
Was a fun game indeed. I had to go into a defensive, protect mode
toeards the end, which probably made the game less fun, but I dont have the confidence to keep pushing for more goals.

I'll take that as if it were a request for an extension.

Seeing as the first division hasn't gotten a lot of 2nd half games in either, I guess it's inevitable that we will need it. I'd still love to see games played before the end of next week, but consider the season extended for a week. I won't assign any forfeits until next Sunday, 8/13.

Yes, Fab. Bastard, I had started a friendly game with XXXIV who is going to be joining the league next season. We had just begun and I didn't want to quit out on him. Maybe tonight!

I didn't get my last two games in against Jared and Jimmy. Things just didn't work out, I think we all made an effort. Trouble is now I'm going out of town until Friday. I doubt you wanna extend things that far out for me....your call, Zepp.

Thanks for putting the stats in Zep...

Man City 0 - Feyenoord 1

Shots 3/13
SOG 2/6
FK 6/4
Cor 1/6
Foul 4/6
Off 1/2
Pos 54/46

Scorer: Kuyt 13'

Early in the game Kuyt edged goalside of the City defender and slotted one home to the far post. The rest of the game was mired in the midfield.

Kuyt had one more chance late in the game but the careened off the crossbar rather than finding the net. James had several good saves as well.

It was a pleasure Zep... I look forward to playing you again.

Match report:

AS Monaco 1 Newcastle 4

SOG 12, 21
Target 5, 11
FK 6, 5
Corner 3, 3
Offside 0, 1
Posses. 48, 52

Monaco: Chevanton (59')

Newcastle: Shearer (33' 90+), Emre (61'), Clark (78')

No bookings or injuries.

Newcastle United's sixth win on the bounce has Toon fans smelling their first league title. AS Monaco deserved better than the 4-1 result, but some clutch goalkeeping my Shay Given and and a few bad bounces gave Newcastle the flattering result.

Both teams had excellent early chances with the French keeper barely getting fingertips to an early Michael Owen effort and Lee Bowyer clearing a ball off the goal line minutes later. Harry Shearer continued his strong play and opened the scoring in the 39th minute with an opportunistic ball from just outside the 6-yard box.

The second half was even more spirited with both sides exchanging chances. A dubious foul call on Boumsong in the 59th minute set up a FK on the edge of the area, which Chevanton despatched with aplomb. Newcastle answered back just two minutes later with a dazzling display of one-touch passing that found Emre open at the top of the box. Despite his overwhelming preference for his left foot, he found enough juice in the right to drive home a classy goal.

Clark opened his account with a goal in the 78th minute, as he opportunistically latched onto a ball deflected by the French keeper who had to come off his line to challenge a bull-charging Shearer. Clark had just enough on his shot to beat the keeper's desperate dive back to the goal line. Shearer completed his brace in injury time by beating the keeper one-on-one with a workmanlike finish.

Great game, Jared. Like I said, terribly flattering scoreline in my favor. I didn't feel safe until Shearer's garbage-time goal. If Given hadn't been so sharp it would've been a whole different story.

Monaco 2, Juventus 0

Chevanton (2)

Monaco 2, Juventus 0

Evra (2)

Good games. Your defense was tough to break...couldn't figure out what to do against it. Sorry I still haven't found my stupid Communicator...one day I'll get these games in and actually be able to talk.

And Rob, great games. Could have gone either way....I had a few empty nets that I choked on, and I think I spent too much time worrying about Owen and not enough time worrying about everyone else. Good luck the rest of the way.

To everyone in the first division. Thanks for some great games.

Jared, I was just trying to hang on and not let you loose. I really had a lot of fun hitting the post and missing the net.

Jimmy... you and I need to see who is going to be relegated. Tonight is good for me if you are around.

Ditto here. I can play just about any night between 8-11PM EDT. I can play later a little later on Friday night if that is the only option. I can also play Saturday morning but then I'll be out on business and will forfeit any remaining games.

edit: Tue night is prob. out for me unless it's the only time someone can play. I have scheduled an NCAA football game.

BTW Zeppo, I'm in for next season. I may be out of town during the selection process. If you don't hear from me I'll just take Bayern again.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I was just wondering if I can get in on the next season of play. Not sure when it starts, etc...

As good as the single player experience is, I can imagine how fun a head to head battle must be. I want in!
