Canadians

Re: NFL Season 2012-2013
Not really. I just want to see a competitive SB and if indeed these two teams face each other, I'll be cheering for the lesser of the two devils which in this case would be Harbaugh's team.MizzouRah wrote:How does anyone root for the Pats?10spro wrote:I'll be rooting for 49'ers-Pats SB.

Agree. As much as I like Flacco and dislike the Pats, it would be criminal for Ray Lewis to end his career with another Super Bowl ring. No pun intended!Rodster wrote:Given that choice, I will gladly root for the Pats.

He either murdered two people or was complicit in a murder and walked.Spooky wrote:Why all the Ray Lewis hate?

He may have been guilty but the DA cut a deal with him and then later failed to convict the two other defendants against whom Lewis testified.
He also settled the civil case with one of the survivors of the victims.
Has he made other restitution to society? Has he expressed contrition?
People were killed and nobody was brought to justice. Either a failure of the system or an indication of corruption that a star athlete didn't go to jail.

I guess I never really knew the details of the incident and thought I remembered it as "wrong place, wrong time" kind of thing. I think he's a hell of a football player and that's all I really know. It's interesting how (as far as I can tell) the incident has not been brought up in the media after maybe a year later...pk500 wrote:He either murdered two people or was complicit in a murder and walked.Spooky wrote:Why all the Ray Lewis hate?

Because no worldwide media likes a redemption story better than the American press. Just look at the Armstrong situation: Every media outlet is slobbering over his confession, which is just a vain attempt to get his ban lifted so he can compete professionally in footraces and triathlons.Spooky wrote:I guess I never really knew the details of the incident and thought I remembered it as "wrong place, wrong time" kind of thing. I'm equally sickened by the deification of Lewis as a citizen worthy of reverence. He's an incredible football player who also was complicit in murder.
The American media forgets because redemption sells. I'm not buying it.

Re: NFL Season 2012-2013
A handful of TV guys "subtly" called out Lewis when he announced his retirement. Shannon Sharpe said he would always remember Lewis for the guy who got the highest fine in NFL history & acted poorly. Granted he didn't yell "murderer" (not that he could without a slander suit anyway), but people who knew "what's up" knew what he was getting at. Hard to imagine the family of the two victims having to watch Lewis all these years knowing he destroyed his suit covered in their blood, lied to cops, etc.
I'm just looking forward to him going away ASAP.

You and I won't be granted that pleasure, Gregg. ESPN reportedly has signed Lewis to be a studio analyst for its Sunday NFL shows starting next season. It's unlikely he'll be a game analyst because his contract will stipulate that he can travel to watch his son Ray play at the University of Miami.greggsand wrote:I'm just looking forward to him going away ASAP.

Upside is espn's morning show is wreck that gets slaughtered by Fox and CBS in the ratings. Sooo, I'm a Fox pregame show guy (now all the more reason).pk500 wrote:You and I won't be granted that pleasure, Gregg.
