It was such a frustrating year watching the Canucks play. When you have a core group of players such as Cloutier, Jovo, Ohlund, Naslund, Bertuzzi & Morrison for the past 4-5 years, you would think that the base is there, that with their experience they would shine every season. How many teams can afford to keep a good core of guys for that long?

Sure we had lots of long injuries this season, and some of those players are still nursing but that's when the next guy should step it up a bit. Naslund was a dissappointment as a Captain, Bertuzzi will be traded this summer and with him some other heads are going to roll. Maybe even the coaching staff.

The four losses vs the Blues will stand out in my mind, absolutely pathetic.
Now with the 8th spot only to be decided in the Eastern conference, I can't believe the run the Leafs are having but anything can happen there if the Stanley Cup champs keep choking.

It's a sad morning here in Vancouver  .

It will be a damn shame if Pittsburgh loses this team. Attendance at 93% capacity and 12 sellouts for a team this bad. I listened to a bit of last night's game on the radio and the crowd was going nuts! I'd much rather see the slots money go to something really important, but if they are going to blow it they should just blow it on a new arena.

The Western Conference matchups are set!

1 - Detroit vs 8 - Edmonton (Now's the chance for PK to shut those Red Wings fans up! )

2 - Dallas vs 7 - Colorado (Too many questions between the pipes for the Avs, Dallas should cruise)

3 - Calgary vs 6 - Anaheim (Terrific matchup, definitely the best of the 4. This series could go 7)

4 - Nashville vs 5 - San Jose (Not sure the Preds can make this a series without Vokoun)

And as the season winds down, how about the top 2 draft picks of the year? A. Ovechkin ended up 5 points ahead of S. Crosby although #87 still has a game to play tonight vs the Leafs. He's the youngest rookie to achieve 100 points ever. Great stuff, if he could play in a better team it's scary to know how much better he can be.

Those WAS CAPS are a fun team to watch, they ended Atlanta's chances of any hope for the playoffs last night and Ovechkin was flying again. He got 105 in his rookie year scoring 52 goals. Amaizing.

A bit of trivia: Who was the last rookie (still an active player) to score 50 or more goals in his 1st year?

First it was the coach and now the LA GM D. Taylor was fired. Former SJ's GM, D. Lombardi is expected to replace Taylor.

I know Teemu Selanne holds the record for most goals in a single season by a rookie, but I'm not sure if he was the last rookie to eclipse 50.

Wow 8O

I just finished watching the exciting finish to the Devils' season. When the evening began with the Rangers, Devils and Flyers all jockeying for the division title, of course it had the potential to be a climactic end to the season but I couldn't have imagined the outcome.

Bouncing back and forth between games, it was apparent the Rangers and Devils were leaving the door open and the Flyers were intent on leaping through. By the time the Rangers and Flyers games had ended, the division had a new leader and the Devils trailed by 2 with less than 10 minutes left to play.

Three goals in a little over six minutes later, the Devils completed their 11th straight win to complete an unlikely surge to the top of the division and the third seed in the conference.

This stretch has been breathtaking as the Devils defeated, multiple times, 6 of the 7 other playoff-bound teams out of the east.

It's great to see them playing their best hockey of the year and entering the playoffs on a high note, but fortunes can turn quickly in the playoffs and a first round matchup with the Rangers, whom the Devils have never knocked out of the playoffs should be a crucial first test.

Congrats to Lou Lamoriello who stepped behind the bench and righted a Devils ship that had started the season with a thud.

Patrick out as Pens GM.

Pens get 2nd pick in the draft. They seem to be accumulating quite a bit of young talent with Fluery, Crosby, Malkin and now the 2nd pick. Maybe all this losing will pay off :D One of the best thing that happened to the Pens in the late 80s was missing the playoffs and drafting Jagr.
