Well I'll tell you one thing...it won't be you.

And hopefully a lovely long ban will be on the way for this as well.

Let's hope there's no fine, as Fergie will have to go and cash in his empty bottles to pay it.

I wouldn't worry, you'll be saved by Crystal Palace. And Cardiff.

Mexico will be playing their world cup friendlies in the US evidently. That is a slap to the face.

Dave, any chance you can find me four sides bad enough to save my beloved HUFC from going down? 8 defeats in our last 12, lowest crowds for 10 years and somehow, in the manager's mind, this is the fault of the fans. Not the players who aren't performing, not the manager who plays 4-5-1 at home against a Gillingham side who had previously amassed exactly 2 points away from home this season (it's now 3, and should probably have been 5), but the fans who keep paying 20 quid a match to watch that shite...

Don't suppose you'll swap Irvine for Turner, Squiddy?

The very same. Somehow we ended up with him and Colin West back in charge. Had a feeling you might turn me down, though. In Turner's defence, he very clearly cares about Hartlepool United, and he's a very nice bloke too. The case for the prosecution, however, is that he's going to get us relegated...

He's not actually manager. He's Director of Sport, whatever that is, and took over first-team duties when we sacked Danny Wilson before Christmas 2008. Talk is that he's only at the training ground one day a week. He's very good friends with the chairman, has a lot of sway within HUFC and (allegedly, of course) is earning vastly more with us than he could ever expect to anywhere else, so we're probably stuck with him.

Interesting read on club vs. international competitions:

http://www.menafn.com/qn_news_story.asp ... 07D74AD%7D

What is FIFA's profit on the WC if they get $2.7 billion on TV rights?

Do host nations charge FIFA for the operational costs of running dozens of games at their stadiums or do they end up paying some kind of licensing fee to win the rights to host?

Then there's merchandizing and ticket sales. FIFA probably doesn't publish the ticket revenues split with the host nations?

The $2.7b will be 'redistributed amongst the soccer family' no doubt.....starting with Blatter and dished out to his cronies like a banana republic.

On an actual football note - if you get a chance to see the highlights of last night's African Cup of Nations semi between Algeria and Egypt (between whom there is a fair amount of 'previous'), then do so...you'll see

- the Algerian keeper headbutt the REF and not get sent off

- one of the worst two-footed challenges you'll ever see

- said keeper booting another player way after the whistle and then getting sent off.

Eee, it was all go.

It's right after the first Egypt goal on a PK.

The High Court has overturned a superinjunction granted to England captain John Terry which had prevented the publication of allegations about his private life.

The story is that Terry had an affair with Wayne Bridge's girlfriend.

Chicago?
A CHICAGO-based investment company is in talks to take control of Sheffield Wednesday, the Yorkshire Post can reveal.
Club 9 Sports, a joint venture between a sports management company and a merchant bank, first expressed an interest in the Owls in the Autumn and talks have been ongoing since in a bid to finally tie-up long-awaited investment at Hillsborough.

The potential deal is understood to be along the lines of that previously revealed in a leaked prospectus from American brokers Inner Circle Sports, who were brought on board by Wednesday last year to seek out new investment.

The prospectus focused on a major new share issue, reserved for the new owners, to inject fresh money into the club allied to a deal with Wednesday's bank and largest creditor, the Co-op, to write off nearly half the Owls' £22m debt.

Club 9 Sports involvement was prompted by Inner Circle Sports and company representatives have visited Sheffield on a number of occasions since the Autumn. The Chicago company describes itself as a joint venture between Tobacco Road Capitalists, a sports management and sports media advisory company and Prometheus Capital Partners, a middle market merchant bank.

Although the club won't comment publicly on the interest from Club 9 Sports, Hillsborough sources believe the Owls are now the closest they have been to new investment for many years.

The proposed takeover would see Lee Strafford remain chairman and Nick Parker keep his role as chief executive.

A club spokesman said: "The investment process is continuing and we would hope to be able to inform our supporters and shareholders of progress in due course. The club is focused on securing a long-term partnership that will enable Sheffield Wednesday to build on its strong history and community values and once again become a competitive force on the pitch".

Can perhaps understand why the keeper was so incensed after the penalty kick - the penalty taker clearly broke off his movement and waited for the keeer to commit before continuing with his shot. That clearly should have been a re-kick, though there's no doubt regardless that the keeper should have been sent off for physically contacting the official.

Best wishes,

Doug

I would have headbutted the ref after allowing that bullsh!t stutter step.

Damn, Egypt won in the final :( - was supporting Ghana since my Sunday men's team wears some fancy Black Stars' replica jerseys. Anyway, congrats to Egypt...now get your seats ready to watch the World Cup on TV because you're not going. [shakes fist]

EDIT:
Realized doug said the same thing about the PK. :) Of course.

Well, that wasn't a very exciting end of transfer window. City buy Adam Johnson from Middlesbro for an estimated £6m, no one else does much apart from Redknapp's usual thefts from Portsmouth and the latter dumping as much salary as possible.

Best transfer of the day - the one that didn't happen. City managed not to pay €16m for Gago from RM, who is utter pony.

Thought that Adam Johnson transfer was a good piece of business. Haven't seen much of him but from the little I have he's been impressive.

Apparently, Robbie Keane is off to Celtic.

Somebody warn the fans in the first 15 rows behind the goal. They're likely to be struck with some well-placed tap-ins from inside the 6yd box. :)

Highlight of my day will come in a few weeks when Redknapp gets sent down, the thieving bastard. Maybe someone should investigate the 6 or 7 transfers between the two clubs, and he was getting Mandaric to pay money into an offshore account for him.

It's also rumoured that Spurs are to replace their cockerel mascot with something more suitable - something like a vulture, perhaps.

As someone in the Times pointed out, it is interesting how 'Onest 'Arry has piloted 3 clubs into financial disaster (2 of them with Peter Storrie, another crook about to get his comeuppance for 'Defrauding the Public Revenue') and yet no one has seen fit to review these.

Well, no one except the Metropolitan Police and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, that is.

Sorry for the rant, but next to Baconface, Redknapp is someone for whom I feel only the utmost contempt.
