Hockey Night In DSP

After watching the highlights of the game in detail, especially the hit by C. Neil, I realized that he came with his elbows tucked in, rather closed, but he definitely could have avoided the hit regardless. So it was dirty allright, but L. Ruff has no business sending out his goon to hurt a player like J. Spezza and CO. And again he should be fined by the league. That's old Hockey but having said that, it was rather naive for B. Murray to put his skilled players on the next shift after the Neil hit.
Anyone going to Vegas? Put your money on a McGratton-Peters fight on Saturday. That should be a dandy one and depending on the outcome of the game, it should be a couple of good rounds. Hard to believe the toughest player on the OTT team was Ray Emery. Keep smiling dude, that was well done!

Totally disagree, that's Chris Neil taking a shot at Chris Drury regardless of if whether it's a clean or dirty hit. The Sabres were just sending a message, that if you mess with our top players, we'll go after yours and they did just that and it was justified. That's the best thing about Lindy Ruff...his players love him and they go to war for him. Not many teams would have done what the Sabres did last night in this day and age and as an old school hockey fan, I think it was great.10spro wrote:After watching the highlights of the game in detail, especially the hit by C. The Senators should be embarrased as an organization, that nobody came to the aid of Emery last night. Even if he was the toughest Senator on the ice, you don't let the opposing team's goon take on your goalie.

Agree, Tim. Buffalo showed a unified, tough front while Ottawa should be banished to hockey hell for leaving Emery hung out to dry against Peters.
What if Peters hurt Emery? Bye-bye playoff run for Ottawa because Gerber sucks.
It's an unwritten rule in hockey: If your goalie is run or punched by someone other than the other team's goalie, that guy should be pulverized immediately.
Take care,
PK

Good news for American hockey fans: Both TSN and Sportsnet are broadcasting their live TV trade deadline day coverage on their respective Web sites all day next Tuesday.
Cool.

ps. it smells like farts in my office. wtf?
I can't stress enough how much respect I have for Adam Mair going straight after Spezza and he also landed one helluva punch straight to Spezza's jaw which not every video replay showed but he definitely got a few punches in, and one extremely good haymaker.pk500 wrote:Agree, Tim. What the hell was Bryan Murray thinking by sending out his top guys after that? What an idiot. I like Spezza, great player and a nice guy but sorry...you have to know that's coming.
I don't know, maybe I live to much in the past but I just love what Adam Mair did last night. I think Peters went a little to far in fighting the goalie but Mair did what he was supposed to do, he didn't think twice about it, just went and did it.

Agree, Tim. Murray was a naive fool for sending out a skilled line, especially since Lindy had the last change because the game was in Buffalo. What a dope.tjung0831 wrote:What the hell was Bryan Murray thinking by sending out his top guys after that? What an idiot. You're not in the past. I think anyone who didn't appreciate what happened last night really isn't a hockey fan.tjung0831 wrote:I don't know, maybe I live to much in the past but I just love what Adam Mair did last night. To add to Mair on the list of honor, I also give Ray Emery props. He could have KILLED Biron when he had Marty flat on the ice but instead let him get up. Then Biron did the chicken-sh*t thing and tried to leg-whip Emery, and Ray started to throw again just as Peters jumped in.
I still can't believe no one from Ottawa came to Emery's defense against Peters. That sends a really questionable message about the toughness and unity of Ottawa.

My friend, Greg, has had repeated correspondance with Leafs tough guy Wade Belak, granted he's probably spent more minutes responding to his e-mails than he has spent on the ice this year, especially since the Leafs' D-line is actually healthy.pk500 wrote:The guy even personally answered two e-mails I sent him. Belak's actually very personable and funny in his responses though.

Sabres have just called up Mark Mancari, a 6-4 bruiser to replace Drury for Saturday.
They will have Mancari/Kaleta/Peters that Lindy would have no problem with unleashing hell with, since they really aren't in the playoff plans. Usually, there's alot of buildup for games like this, and nothing ever happens. I don't think that will be the case this time. It probably won't get as wild as last night, but something's going to go down.

if he does not put them out on the opening draw he is a p***y.CrazyPsycho wrote:Sabres have just called up Mark Mancari, a 6-4 bruiser to replace Drury for Saturday.

Most likely both coaches will put out the goons lines in the 1st couple of shifts, get their fights over with, and game on...Sudz wrote:if he does not put them out on the opening draw he is a p***y.CrazyPsycho wrote:Sabres have just called up Mark Mancari, a 6-4 bruiser to replace Drury for Saturday.

I still think that what Peters did is out of any tough guy's rule of etiquette.
Usually tough guys fight guys, and rarely they go after a mid-size guy, not to mention a goalie. What if McGratton goes after Miller or Briere on Saturday?
Did L. Ruff have the right to respond after Neil's hit? Oh yeah! Did he respond appropiately though? Peters taking on Emery? Come on... So on Saturday we'll see which team comes on top. For some reason, I have this feeling that G. Bettman will be in attendance.

totally....CrazyPsycho wrote:To be fair, Peters went after Heatley and he declined, then he chased after Volchenkov, who was busy attacking Mair. He saw Emery owning Biron and stuck up for his teammate. It's not like Emery was running away or anything and Peters jumped him, it was a fair fight.
but his own team should have come to help him out.

I disagree, James. When your goalie is getting pummeled, you jump to his defense immediately, regardless of any mismatch.10spro wrote:I still think that what Peters did is out of any tough guy's rule of etiquette.

Peters did nothing more than look for the most willing dance partner. It just so happened that Emery was free by the time Peters got over there after he went to help out his teammate in need! There were three Senators trying to take on Mair, and Phillips was on the ice tangling with the local Buffalo kid that was making his debut. I believe that Barry Melrose referred to the Senators that were on the ice last night as the goalie and 5 cowards!

Anybody else find it ironic that the NHL is getting more publicity today then it has all year! This brawl is everywhere....it's the biggest thing that's happened for the NHL this year media wise, yet Bettman and company will mess it up and say how it's not good for the sport!

I was watching this last night. I loved it.
Being a semi-Sens fan living in Ottawa, I love Chris Neil. His hit WAS about one second too late tho. And I agree that Ruff was simply sending a message that you "dont' mess with our players".
But man, Razor may be the better fighter on the team, lol. When I saw his mask come off and saw his smile, i knew Biron was done. I think Razor (or Sugar Ray as the paper here called him) got into 2 or 3 fights in the AHL, so he knows what he's doing.
I still think someone should have creamed Peters tho after he went for Emery. The only thing I can think of is everyone say Ray going toe to toe and figured he didn't need any help.....
I know I'm watching on Saturday for sure.

Hey now, the REAL Razor was between the benches last night, doing Buffalo TV: Rob Ray. It was hysterical to see Razor standing there with his hand over the mike, not moving a muscle as Ruff and Murray screamed at each other.Gangrel wrote:But man, Razor may be the better fighter on the team, lol. You know deep down that Ray, one of the premier goons during his playing days, wanted to either be out there swinging or help Lindy get over the glass to pummel Murray.
