That's what was happening to me with a McDonalds ad when I was playing Zeppo. I kept bitching about it but Zeppo couldn't see it.seanmac31 wrote:That MTV ad had me so furious that it made me turn the game off. Anyways, those ads piss me off royally. Honestly, I couldn't see TOP as the MTV ad was in the way. Way to go EA, way to piss off your customer base.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I've seen the McDonald's add in an online game before, but I haven't seen it very often at all. I'm thankful for that because these are indeed very intrusive.
Lots of games have ads that change from time to time, but these in Madden are particularly obnoxious. Usually they are subtly put in on the boards on NHL, or in signs in a racing game.
I don't know why I've only seen them a few times and mostly had games without them. If I knew the secret, I'd let you know I can assure you.

I've also seen it start after a player ran out of bounds following the 2 minute warning. I'm not sure if it was a one-time thing or if they got the rule wrong...I'll have to pay attention to it the next time it happens to see.icvu42 wrote:Im enjoying this game, but is anyone else experiencing wierd clock issues? Unfortunately. Every time I throw the ball away, the clock restarts after my play is called and sometimes on regular incompletions.icvu42 wrote:Im enjoying this game, but is anyone else experiencing wierd clock issues? Hopefully the play clock thing is something they will patch.
I have a second question. I know how to preset audibles and call them using the X, Y, a buttons etc.. But when you are up at the line of scrimmage, you can move the rightanalog stick, left, right and down, and see other plays to audible too, but how exactly do you do that? The manual is pretty useless.
Thanks.

If you are seeing alternate play art when holding LT (?) and moving the right stick, you are seeing bluff play calls, intended to disguise your real play from your opponent. OTOH, if there *is* a way to audible in such a manner, I'd be interested myself.icvu42 wrote:Hopefully the play clock thing is something they will patch.

Well there are basically two sets of audibles for offense, so you have eight choices once you've hit that X-button. The first set is the normal button audibles that will always be the same plays no matter what. You can change what these are in the main menu somewhere, as they are tied to your profile.
The second group you select using the R-stick, and these are formation-specific audibles, meaning you stay in the same formation you came out of the huddle with, but you can choose among four play types: run, quick pass (some kind of slant deal), deep pass, and play action pass.
It's basically combining the old Madden audible system, with the plays being set in stone and your formation changing when you call the audible, and the old 2K way of having 'formation specific' audibles. It's been this way in Madden for quite some time now.
Personally I pretty much only use the R-stick formation specific audibles. There can be too much of a give-away with the regular audibles as your opponent can easily key what play you are audibling to by what formation you shift into. I also worry about ending up with a WR as a blocking fullback, or what have you, with these changes of formation. But the button audibles can be set in your profile, so they can be tailored to your playbook and play calling style if you know what you are doing with a specific team.
The R-stick audibles let you make those quick decisions at the line of scrimmage. Oftentimes I'll call a sweep or a stretch in the huddle, but at the line I can audible to R-stick down for 'run' and it'll always be a dive or something between the tackles. This is super handy and combines well with the 'flip the run' R-stick flick thing. Of course, I could then easily audible to the play action or one of the other passes, too.

...that also works for defense.
You have your standard defenses, but this is the first year I've seen the R stick mapped to Up (Cover 2 man) down (man blitz), left (Cover 3 Zone) and right (Cover 2 Zone).
The four basic defenses are taken care of, much like the four basic offensive play types. It REALLY helps with the no-huddle guys. As long as you matched up personnel-wise, you're not completely screwed now.
And I'm with Zep--I never use audibles other than R-stick ones.

Is there any real difference (slowdown) between the PS3 and 360 versions. I'm a bit torn because I've had no chance to do much of anything in the last few months and gearing up for FIFA 10.
Because of some limitations I'm only going to be one-console guy for a while, and don't really know which version to get. (So much easier if MLB The Show was on the 360).

The controller alone has got to be a seller to me. Football games really suck on the ps3 using that controller.JRod wrote:Is there any real difference (slowdown) between the PS3 and 360 versions. Very much disagree with Fletcher's assessement regarding the controller, but to each their own. I myself prefer the PS3 controller, but understand I may be in the minority. If you have purchased the replacement buttons that go over L2 and R2 buttons, then I don't see a reason why you wouldn't like the PS3 controller. The 360 and PS3 controller are pretty much equal for sports games imo. Without the button replacements however, I could understand preferring the 360 controller.
I have both systems so I don't really care either way. I find the 360 controller as the more comfortable of the two. The 360 controller is better suited for racing games. Sports it's a toss up. What I don't like about the PS3 controller is that it feels smaller in my hands than the 360 controller.
I've read where the 360 graphics might be a little sharper but you get free online with the PS3. I think the difference between both platforms is very minor.

It's been a long time since my 360 bit the dust (never to be replaced), but I'm just the opposite...the PS3 controller has always felt more comfortable in my hands, while the 360 controller always felt too big and bulky. So, like Dan, I'd go with the PS3 controllers even though we definitely seem to be in the minority.Rodster wrote:I have both systems so I don't really care either way. I've never handled the 360 controller but I tried the Xbox controller once and I could never get used to the reversed position of the left stick and the D-pad.
It seems any game where you have to hold down the shoulder buttons while using the sticks and the face buttons would be harder on the Xbox and 360 controllers than on the DS2/DS3.

Finally picked this up today, and I digging it over last year big time. Biggest difference right off the bat is the AI "bombing it" on me. Playing the Chargers, River threw a 46 yard bomb to Gates for a TD. I don't recall that EVER happening last year against the AI.
Now if only I could return the favor...

Playing online with the different teams is also pretty cool.
Played a game as the Falcons last night and got obliterated 35-16 by Zeps Dolphins. ...I know he couldnt possibly be but Ted Gin looked like the best player in Madden history ...Come to think of it I think Chad Pennington is HoF bound as well.
I love the way they have brought out the variety in abilities and personalities from team to team. Every game seems, to me anyhow, to play out differently.
The game is a keeper.
P.S. EA reps can pm me for my address.

Obviously the people who prefer the PS3 are going to like the PS3 controller and vice versa. There is nothing wrong with either controller.
For me it's simple every time their is a MP game the majority of my friends get it on the 360 I mean it's not even close it's like 90%+ so there lies my decision.
