PS3 Impressions Yes Another One....

I don't know about Mark of Kri but there are QTE sections like God of War where you have on-screen prompts for big set-pieces or fighting big bosses.
For the rest, you have to learn combos, kind of like in a Soul Calibur vein, a series of button presses, not button-chords like Tekken.
Two complaints about the demo are no manual blocks and no jump buttons.
Instead, you can use a combo to get an enemy in the air and then you're suppose to jerk the Sixaxis upwards to do an aerial combo while the enemy is in the air.

I didn't know where to put this as i thought clogging up the NHL thread with this question was inappropriate.
Anyway, Sport73 and i were talking this morning after seeing yet another fantastic video of NHL 08 and we both feel that this game could bring the online "community" feel to the PS3 finally, particularly with the 3 on 3 games. My question is who with a PS3 is getting NHL08 and if you are do we think this might be the Rivals of the new millenium? Just curious.

From 6 different consoles?
Towards the bottom of the first post in this huge thread at the EA NHL forums...
This from a moderator who was invited to NHL Community Day earlier this month....Community update
Well Guys and Gals here it is the moment you have all been waiting for...
online- First I'll start off with the modes
-Leagues- up to 32 teams
-Shoot out
-Single player
-Multiplayer..
1 on 1
2 on 2
3 on 3
Could it be!
You can play up to 4 player online for the 360 per team/Per System.
And you can play up to 6 players per side for the PS3. Yes that is every player on the ice.
Online in NHL 08 Is summed up in two words Simply amazing.
And I know Multiplayer is a huge feature in this game for all of you onliners.
To have the ability to get together with one of your buddy's at home or from the other side of the globe, And take on another group from all over the world.
Can I get an AMEN !!!
The online play will be as smooth as a baby's bottom! So by that the online experience is like your off line experience
As far as it's known there are no online glitches.
Able to play with Internatinal, AHL, and NHL online.
If your opponet drops the game the cpu AI will take over the game.
There is also full stat tracking for regualr online play and leagues.
You can win tropihes in online leagues, and you hold on to it untill someone else wins the next one.
Not to mention you can be just the goalie...Sweet!!
Sounds a bit ambiguous.
Sounds like 6 players on a console playing up to another 6 players on another console.
PS3 can pair more Sixaxis controllers per console via Bluetooth so that would explain these numbers.
If they could coordinate and have at least 4 consoles connected, that would be very uncharacteristic of EA.
Actually, the Madden guy said watch mode was very difficult to code for Madden. Watch mode would require having more than 2 consoles connected in an online game.
Who knows, maybe EA Canada has figured out something Tiburon hasn't. Tiger Woods would make the most sense for multiple console connections. NASCAR too.

It's co-op online via two connected consoles:

Online Co-op Mode
Another online feature that I’m not if it was mentioned already is online co-op mode, but it’s not going to be in the online leagues. I believe up to 6 people can play the co-op mode online, but at least one person has to be on the opposing team. So, it can be 3-on-3, 2-on-4, 1-on-5, etc. Another cool feature is that if you choose to be the goalie, you use the new goalie cam for the entire game. Even though you can’t field a full 12 people during co-op on the 360, it will still be cool to get a bunch of friends together and play some hockey online. Now if you own a PS3 you can play 6-on-6 online on two consoles which means 6 people would have to play on each console online. For the 360 it can only go up to 4-on-4 via two consoles, as well.

Just got a PS3 yesterday (totally impulse purchase because of the $150 credit back if you sign up for the Sony [Credit] Card for purchase $299 and up at Sony Styles store, so I ended up with a 60 gig for $350 + tax).
Anyway, is MLB The Show that good? I am not a huge fan of baseball videogames so I am on the fence about it. Other than that, I bought StarDust HD, and nothing else really interest me atm.

Will,
It's the best baseball video game I've ever played. It deserves the praise it's gotten. Everything from the gameplay to the presentation is fantastic. I'm already excited about '08. That said, if you're not a huge baseball fan, I'd rent it first .
I never did purchase F1, but it's gotten a lot of praise. Check out the demo on PSN. In fact, there are quite a few demos up on PSN now. The GTHD demo looks incredible.
It's a good time IMO to pick up the PS3. Some very anticipated games are just around the corner, namely Heavenly Sword. Warhawk hasn't gotten glowing reviews, so I'll wait to see how impressions shake out before I purchase. Lair looks intrguing as well. Ratchet and Clank looks fabulous.
I'm hopeful we'll be able to import Pro Evo this fall. That is the due date, correct?
I'm personally excited about Hot Shots Golf 5 and Unchartered. Hopefully, neither of the them will get delayed.

That's really not a bad deal at all. Isn't there a promotion for 5 free BD discs as well with the PS3 purchase? Maybe this one: http://www.bluraysavings.com/WillHunting wrote:Just got a PS3 yesterday (totally impulse purchase because of the $150 credit back if you sign up for the Sony [Credit] Card for purchase $299 and up at Sony Styles store, so I ended up with a 60 gig for $350 + tax).
PS3 still lacks that title that grabs me, although it clearly has potential.
Now you've got me wondering if this is a sweet enough deal to jump in on

I agree with Dan on this...I also agree that there are a lot of worthwhile demos/trailers on PSN to download now, with Dirt and NCAA being the 2 most recent.sportdan30 wrote:Will,

Yes, I can still get 5 Blurays but the selection is pure crap IMO. The only movie I am remotely interested in is The Italian Job. I don't know if I want to cut out the UPC symbol just to get 5 crappy Bluray.GameSeven wrote:That's really not a bad deal at all. It is a great deal, but you have to sign up for the Sony card by 8/31.

IMO its the only game worth owning on the PS3 right now. I am itching to buy something for my PS3 but everytime I go looking there is nothing.WillHunting wrote:Anyway, is MLB The Show that good? I'd add F1, Resistance, and Motorstorm to that list.Danimal wrote:IMO its the only game worth owning on the PS3 right now. I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Lair has gotten some lukewarm reviews, mostly about control and gameplay issues. Reviewers hate having to use the motion to fly and there have been criticisms about the missons all being the same or the game overall being like Rogue Squadron with dragons.
They pushed the release date out 2-3 weeks for some reason.
I will still check it out, because the Show got lukewarm reviews as well. But it's a singleplayer game so the longetivity might be limited. I think the technology they used to achieve the scale will be interesting. The scale of the game is unparalleled but it might end up being more of a tech. demo than a good game. Still, I thought Rogue Squadron was pretty well regarded.
Warhawk is more appealing for the multiplayer, although I'm never good in shooter games. If they let you have teams and you can coordinate ground and air attacks, that would be interesting. Not sure that's the case. It may be more like Battlefield or the Star Wars Battlefront games. Again, another rental to see first. But you get a Bluetooth headset if you buy the retail instead of download it.
Heavenly Sword is also a game I normally wouldn't buy because it's single player. But I may get this if Toys R Us does the buy 2 get 1 deal at the end of September I believe. Otherwise, definitely rent and try to finish it for the story.
Same with Uncharted. Ratchet and Clank should have an online component.

I wasn't thrilled with the demo not my type of game. I will probably get WarHawk, MGS4 when it comes out, have an interest in Lair but it keeps going down because of bad reports. Saw a cool CCG game at GenCon called Eye of Judgement that comes with the Eye camera, that may be interesting.sportdan30 wrote:Danimal,

Honestly I wish there was a way for me to play my PSP games through my PS3 on the big screen, as I am addicted to D&D tactics but playing on the PSP is killing me.

Doesn't the new PSP have video out? Or is that only for movies?
Nobody is doing all that PS3 to PSP connectivity that Sony talked about are they? Like having PSP serve as controller with a dedicated screen so people playing a football game have their own gameplay screens.
Or they said PS3 was going to do some processing and send data to PSP.
