Well, if you're looking for someone to tell you what you want to hear, pat you on the back and tuck you in with a cookie and warm milk, you can move along. DSP isn't that kind of place.hoserthehorrible wrote:Because you're clearly anti-NHL 06 and I don't trust your opinion. I don't want or need your advice. So as BDitty said, the next time you want private responses in a public thread, use the PM function.
Why would you assume anybody's feelings are hurt? I simply think you're a blowhard, that's all.Seriously, PM's are your friends if your feelings are hurt by people trying to help.
If you want to hear and can handle the truth, then this is your place. And the truth comes from a variety of sources here, a community of really good, honest people.
The choice is yours.

Assumptions of what? That you are desperate for Jack to tell you there's a magic bullet in NHL 06 that will make defensemen check, pinning to occur and cycling and grinding along the boards to happen?hoserthehorrible wrote:You're making assumptions and don't know what you're talking about. Again.
Lord knows, I wanted that, too. And that's why I was up until nearly 3 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday night trying every conceivable slider setting under the sun to achieve the same thing you wanted. And I didn't find it. All I found was increased congestion and contact in the neutral zone.
Dude, I wanted the defensemen in this game to resemble more than rod hockey players going north and south the whole game in their zone, but it's just not happening.
As for not knowing what I'm talking about, well, that's your opinion. I think there are a lot of guys here, including Jack, who disagree with you.
You can continue your delusions in peace.
Take care,

I played a few online games of this and let me tell you, it is fast as hell. 'fast' mode online is the default so everyone is playing it, but it's really way too fast.
I won a game 2-0 and the other game the game disconntected. I had a sweet goal my first game but my 2nd goal I scored from my own blue line with the shoot button held down. Ya thats right, from my blue line.
The online game is sort of choppy. not so much as in the connection choppy, but just how it plays. I remember last years 2k5 played much smoother.
added:
just wanted to say that I think the porportions are a little wacky in this game. Seems like the players are too big for the rink. Maybe it's the default camera angle. I really dont like the default, I can't see my players on the wings.
The more I play this offline....the more I am agreeing with pk. Maybe I have to get 2k out of my system, but I'll keep at it tonight with nhl 06.

Are you guessing again? Why do you keep making assumptions that have no basis in reality?Assumptions of what? That you are desperate for Jack to tell you there's a magic bullet in NHL 06 that will make defensemen check, pinning to occur and cycling and grinding along the boards to happen?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I saw your temper tantrum the other day. Wah, wah, wah, for hours on end. If it hurts your feelings that I didn't consult with you for your opinion then too bad. Like I said, I already heard your day long whining and wasn't too impressed.Lord knows, I wanted that, too. And that's why I was up until nearly 3 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday night trying every conceivable slider setting under the sun to achieve the same thing you wanted. And I didn't find it. Was this not your original question below?hoserthehorrible wrote:Are you guessing again? Why do you keep making assumptions that have no basis in reality?
And how does my answering that question constitute an assumption that isn't based in reality? You ask a question; you get an answer from someone who did the exact thing you asked about. Didn't you want an answer to that question? Or are you using some sort of Pig Latin or dog whistles to communicate with Jack?hoserthehorrible wrote:Have you played any games with the hit difficulty slider way down and the hit power way up? I'm wondering if it helps the CPU hit more while not allowing me to hit the crap out of them all game long.

No, I don't get it because you're doing a pretty piss-poor job trying to explain why my information isn't valid other than one, it's not what you want to hear, and two, you don't like me.
Both are such strong reasons, reminding me of a dog chasing its tail.
And again, if providing the answer to your original sliders question that I reposted above is an incorrect assumption, then what exactly do you seek from that question?
Enlighten me. Enlighten us all. We're waiting with such baited breath that hyperventilation looms.

Point taken, Leebo. I don't have any problem with people who disagree with me. But I do have a problem with people who question my honesty and integrity, hence my beef.
I'll let this go. Thanks again for the sanity check.

I stayed up to 2am playing this game last night.
Ever had those moments where you play a game at a store for a short while and like it, and then when you buy it, you're like huh? If I were to label this game with a saying, it would be 'Pk Was Right'.
Graphics wise, the game is nice to look at. That is one positive. EA didn't screw the xbox graphically on this one.
but overall the game is too arcade. I dont mind arcade/sim type games but this one gets over the top at times.
First problem is the camera angle. If one of my players is on one side of the rink and passing to the other side, I can't see my other player. Also, the players are a little too big for the rink. It almost reminds me of nhl hitz at times.
As others mentioned, the cpu passing can be just unrealisitc at times. Also, in my experience so far, if I am up a goal or two and it's late, the cpu seems to always score to tie the game. Btw, I am playing on the medium difficulty. I was up 2 goals in with 1 min left and the cpu gets 2 quick goals one after another. It wasn't like they earned the goals either, they just shot it from anywhere and the puck goes in. This happened to me in 2 games I played.
I don't sound too overly critical but last night if i posted, you would have seen a lot of f bombs. I maybe expected a little more sim and less arcade so I blame myself for having my expectations too high for this.
I hope to pick up 2k6 when the store gets it back in and try that.

I got the PC version today and holy cow, does it look good on the PC with all the details cranked up. It defintiley doesn't have 2K6's gameplay, but it's still fun as a change of pace. The PC version seems to play less arcadey than the XBox verison for some reason, but I think once the mod-ers get to work on this puppy, we may have something worthwhile here.
I've played pretty much all EA's NHL since they started making the game and I must say I'm a bit disappointed. It's too damn easy. NHL 2005 was not fun as the hitting was totally out of control (many 10 minute per period games ending with 60+ hits for each team) but this one is like figure skating.Inuyasha wrote:I stayed up to 2am playing this game last night.

I'm playing the Habs, not a powerhouse or anything but a lot of speedy skaters and with settings similar to those mentioned here I'm usually scoring 10+ goals a game while letting in 2-3. And for those who wantt o know, the roster does need a lot of tweaking. Even baby Lindros is not with the Leafs yet.
Anyway, how is 2k6? I've never played a game of that serie.

I have not messed with sliders yet, but I don't think I will bother.
Played on default setup, but with Veteran difficulty and 10 minute period. Midway through the 3rd period, the score was 12-11. It was just ridiculous. Like someone said, I don't mind arcade hockey but this is insane. This is not NHL hockey, this is air hockey! The passes/shots are all super speed, checks are there but hard to pull off, passes are too easy to make (and way too fast as well).
Well, I think if I want to play arcade hockey, I will play Blades of Steel.

NHL 06 is not a perfect sim of hockey by any means however you can get a lot lower scoring games if you make a couple minor slider adjustments. In takes about 30 seconds to make the adjustments. Play on 5 minute periods, lower the game speed, lower the shot power and accuracy, lower the pass speeds and accuracies, and increase the aggression. I've had lots of 3-2, 4-2, 2-1 and even 1-0 scores this way.WillHunting wrote:I have not messed with sliders yet, but I don't think I will bother.

I will give those adjustments a chance. But it is not just the scoring that bothers me. But so far, I am glad that I rented this game instead of buying.hoserthehorrible wrote:NHL 06 is not a perfect sim of hockey by any means however you can get a lot lower scoring games if you make a couple minor slider adjustments. Well, I had some fun with the demo and picked it up for the PC. After playing 2k6 for 3 days before NHL 2006, it just isn't a good hockey game. There's a foundation (namely skating physics) for a great hockey game but the lack of hitting or even aggression by the cpu defense combined with the quick passes and pucks that sail way too fast on shots and rebounds really ruin this one. Here's hoping the PC modding community will do their magic.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

funny thing is, I like both games. I played 5 games of 2K6 over the weekend and it's a solid hockey game, but I still enjoy playing EA's game on my PC. With the right sliders, it's a lot of fun and it looks incredible. The goal replays at the end of the game are just a joy to watch. Sure, the D gives you too much room, but it still has a great skating model and
the presentation and atmosphere are top notch. I guess once I came to terms with the fact that it wasn't what EA was touting it to be, I relaxed and enjoyed it for what it is.
