Rhinoskin protective cases take care of the scratching issue.

Bought one for my 60 G Video and not a scratch on the screen nor aluminum. Bought one for my daughter's Nano and same performance. Buying another Nano hardcase for my wife's new Nanon she got yesterday.

Boys, if you look earlier in the thread, there was some talk about headphones in general, so instead of creating a new thread I decided to use this one. There's only one moderator now and Jared posted clearly the rules on his sticky. So as far as I know only Scoop make those decisions now, whether a particular topic is appropiate or not in a thread.

Can you use the QC2 or QC3 without turning on the active noise-cancelation?

Obviously noise-cancelation is great for planes but for the office or home, it might be more annoying to hear the hiss if the ambient noise level lets you hear that hiss.

What is the battery life like and how comfortable are they for extended sessions?

I was laughing at the time lag of the bump and I take it Kaz was joking. Why is everyone so damn uptight?

Seriously Leebo...I didn't think it was that big of a stretch to understand that Kaz was joking. But I digress.

Maybe he missed the smiley.. apparently that happened to me in the baseball thread

I was just being silly, I clicked on the thread expecting somebody to break the news about the 8GB Nano and I get headphone reviews :P I don't expect people to be that tidy, and the effort to bump the thread at all is good enough. There is an MP3 thread though, I remember DB used it to talk about his new player.

1. No.

2. Not sure what you mean by "hiss". All I notice is how little background noise is heard once the QC's are switched on.

3. Battery life is right at 20 hours per charge and the QC3's have the rechargeable litium-ion battery.

10spro you don't have to worry about starting a new headphones or mp3 player thread when the last threads on either of those are buried more than 5 pages deep. Nobody, at least I hope nobody, expects people to remember every single thread that was posted here and never start new topics. I really hope that is not how people view this forum. If it is we have a bigger problem than I thought.

But seriously do you need a new thread about "trying on" a pair of demo headphones? He did the right thing...found a thread with some headphone discussion and just dropped it in. Kaz was kidding...any old MP3 thread will do since most of the delve into headphone discussions anyway.

Maybe you don't need a new thread about "trying on" a pair of demo headphones but others may. Contrary to what you believe this is not your forum to decide what is posted and where it is posted. Leave that to Jared and me. If you want to become a mod then talk to Jared. If you want your own personal forum where you decide what is posted and what isn't start your own website. I want the old DSP vibe back and it starts with cutting your s***. Seriously, s*** or get off the pot. Become a mod here or shut the f*** up already. If you want to complain to Jared about me and have him remove my moderation privileges go ahead. If he does and makes you mod I'll gladly step down and let you run the show. Of course it won't be much of a show in 3 months but that would be your problem, not mine. I'm not going to put up with that s*** anymore. When you drop the thread police nonsense you're a valuable poster here, when you don't your completely and utterly useless.

Have I done a damn thing about policing threads lately...didn't think so. Even though Jared didn't mind what I was doing...it ruffled feathers so I stopped with the smart ass comments when I did it. Just a polite suggestion and that's it...as Jared requested.

Not much of a mod when you go around attacking people and starting sh*t...I simply stated that "I" didn't think there needed to be a new thread. Settle the f*ck down "MOD".

Now now boys, please, chill out. I love reading the things DB and Scoop post. You two guys are very informative and contribute a ton here.

Lets just drop it and move on, back on topic, I bought a nice case for my sons black 4GB Ipod nano.

It is this one.....

It has a nice clip to boot.

It is made by Marware, and called the Sidewinder.

The operative word there is "MOD" db, which you are "NOT". Until such time as Jared decides that I am no longer a mod I will point things out and moderate the boards as I see fit. As far as what I typed in my original message, that's not an attack. Yeah, I called you out (because what you typed challenged what I had said) but I did not attack you. Sorry you feel that way but I'm not sorry I typed what I did. I will no longer tolerate people who aren't mods running the forum. As I said in my earlier post, if you have a problem with that feel free to contact Jared. If Jared wants you to be a mod then great. If Jared wants me to step down as mod I will. Until that happens all I ask is that you contribute to the boards in a positive manner and show some respect to myself and Jared. If you can't handle that maybe you should move on. If that's what Jared wants maybe I should move on.

You're trying to start s*** with me...that's all there is to it. Is that a very "mod" thing to do? I don't think so. I haven't done sh*t lately in terms of moderating anything...because it bothers people. You calling me out when it's entirely not needed is a f*cked up thing to do when you entertain the title "mod" isn't it? Seems to me that YOU are the one who needs a change, not me. I haven't done a damn thing in the past few months...if you're going to start s*** with me, then it's on. But like I said...it's not very mod-like.

1. Kazuya was clearly joking when he brought up the bump police.

2. My suggestions about keeping similar posts under similar threads are just that, suggestions. If you want to bring up something on a topic that there is an old thread for, you can feel free to post a new thread or dig up an old thread. I really don't care either way.

3. Is it necessary to have a new thread for trying on demo headphones? Maybe. If there hasn't been anything recent on a topic, someone can be free to make an OT post on that. If there IS a recent mp3/headphone post, then it makes sense to put it in there.

The whole idea (for me) of the forums here is a place for people to just chat about sports gaming and whatever else is on people's minds. It is good to have some level of organization, and that's where suggestions about keeping like posts under the same topic come in. But the vibe of DSP has been (and should be) about open discussion, and when people feel that their discussion is being stifled because of some of the rules, then it's time to loosen things.

So please use basic judgment as to where posts should go. And don't be afraid to put up a new post on a new topic b/c of the "thread police". For the most part, 99% of the posts and users do this (though we had a problem with red a while back...but I can't remember any other serial spammers). And because of this, we don't need any thread policing. If something gets out of hand, one of the mods will take care of it.

4. I don't agree with the tone of Scoop's post. But he makes some points that I agree with. It seems like lots of users feel like we are losing part of the old DSP vibe because of "thread policing". Now there's been barely any of it lately, and we haven't needed it. Let's keep it that way.

Feel free to give me your input (either in a post or a PM on this). I value everyone that posts here (including Scoop, PK, DB, etc.) and don't want people here to get pissed off at each other over things like this.

Anyone tried the Radio Remote for the Nano?

Are you talking about the Apple one? No I haven't tried it. $50 you have to really love FM.

I still might have gone for it if it had a pass-through so you can dock it and listen to the radio. The thing hooks up through the dock connector but it appears those speaker docks are really popular -- you see a new model released just about every week. I got the Logitech one so it would have been nice to use it as a radio too (although a lot of radio and TV shows are starting to just put their shows as podcasts).

You do know that Apple is expected to release new Nanos pretty soon right?

Thanks.

I like the design of the QC's, especially how they fold and come with a nice carrying case for flights. But not a big fan of Bose sound so I dug around and am going to first try a set of regular closed-ear phones to complement my in-ear phones.

Ordered the AKG K81J which seems to have a good following. Grado SR-60 also appears to be popular in the same price range. Looks like a lot of people really into headphones at head-fi.org. Apparently some of them get portable amps to power some of the bigger head phones with their MP3 players.

It's all speculation at this point.

But in the past, they would announce new iPods just before the Holiday season. Makes sense right?

Last year, they did it in September (Nanos) and either late September or October (iPods with Video).

At a minimum, they should have higher capacities at the same price for the Nanos because NAND flash memory have gone down in the spot market.

Apple waits until they're ready to ship before they announce them, which is far different from consoles where they annouce prices and launch dates at least several months ahead of time.

The second most popular brand of players in the US is the Sandisk Sansa players and those are being discounted aggressively. I think even a 4 GB Sansa is sometimes discounted to like $170 or something like that. Compare that with $150 for 1 GB Nanos and $250 for the 4 GB Nanos.

Stores are pushing them heavily because Sandisk is selling them at lower wholesale prices so they can make more profit margin.

Wco,

Has Apple ever informed any interest on adding FM tuning to this year's new line of Ipods?

Don't think so.

They could charge you $50 so why include it? :D

Actually, their argument is that FM is s*** so you control what you want to hear.

In fact, someone took apart their Shuffles and found that it had an FM tuner but Apple didn't bother to activate it.

Apparently FM tuners are common features of all the chips used to make MP3 players. That is why most other brands include FM tuners.
