How about exluding the Super Bowl too? I remember watching the Super Bowl as a kid and not needing a damn thing at halftime except game analysis. It's a f#$@in game.JRod wrote:How about not have halftime shows for anything other than the Super Bowl??

Your to kind Brando. It's not only foolish, but downright crack smoking ignorant. And we thought Parker was the only one on this board that didn't know his ass from his elbow when it came to college football. It's also foolish to say any team is overrated because of one game, too. If OU and USC played 10 times, I don't think OU would get blown out most of the time. It was just one of those nights.

I agree 100% Brando. There is no question that Auburn should have had a chance to compete for the national title. Utah and Boise State should have also had that chance. What you essentially have is a system of tiebreakers deciding who gets to play for the championship. People say that playoffs would reduce the meaning of the regular season. Well this system completely obliterates it. Hey, you won all your games, but since you didn't play as hard of a schedule, you're going to the Astroglide Lube Bowl.
No other sport would tolerate this kind of stupidity. By this logic, right now we would skip the NFL playoffs, and the Steelers and Patriots would be playing for the Super Bowl. Both of those teams may deserve it. One of them will likely win it. But it would ruin the NFL.
No doubt brother fletch. Time to go.arguing about this is like arguing about the pros and cons of america versus europe with parker... no one will back down and no one will win, so why even bother

"Even Auburn is going to have a tough time trying to convince the media that they should have been in the championship game. I could see if USC barely beat OU but what is Auburn going to say that we could have made it close?"
The bottom, inarguable line is this: No one, with any degree of credibility, is ever going to be able to say, with any accuracy whatsoever, that USC is a better team than Auburn. Or Utah, for that matter. It's a alot of claptrap with no basis in fact unless they play one another.
USC was able to prove, beyond any reasonable doubt, that they are a better team than OU last night. At the very least, they proved that they were much better prepared to win when it mattered most. OU didn't show up to play, that's all there is to it.
I've read back over some of my posts earlier, and feel the need to rectify and reword some things. Last night was not a good night for me to be posting anything, as I was a grouchy SOB from extreme lack of sleep. First, BD, I'm waving the truce flag here. Your guys were getting pummeled last night, and there was no need for me to pour salt in it. My sincere apologies. I was an asshole...
Secondly, let me say that I was shocked at the way the game was playing out, and should have stopped to let it sink in before posting away. OU deserved to be there. They had a very bad game, but I've watched them over the season, and they simply weren't playing up to their usual standard. I don't know if all the stupid hoopla and hype got to them or what, but my hat's off to them for a great season. I know how it feels to get the crap beaten out of you when for all intents and purposes you shouldn't on any other night.
Third, let me congratulate USC for an impressive win, and for making a strong statement in favor of being #1. I only wish that the BCS didn't exist, and they could take on all comers, so that the champion could be absolutely without question the champion. Tuberville said yesterday that he'd play either team any place, any time. I'd like for USC and Auburn to get together on their own, and just see. Play it out on neutral ground. I know they won't, and it wouldn't matter on paper, but if the schools and coaches would stop endorsing this BCS garbage, it would get changed.
So again, BD, my apologies to you. You did congratulate Auburn night before last, and I shouldn't have acted like a 4 year old. Maybe we can console each other next season when all of this is gone, and both our teams are sitting at home in January...

SF_Z: You think the controversy isn't good for getting attention? The BCS is fueling interest in these games whether people like it or not. By virtue of the debate over who should be in in the top game, the create interest in some of the other bowls.
PK:
Here's what I meant. The heat is on during the slection where there is some controversy. But when the tournament is played all controversies are over and its just basketball. March Madness is big where ever your go and as a journalist you should know that just because our D1 schools aren't that great doesn't mean there isn't interest. Good thing you are a racing PR guy and not BBall because I think you just offended all the sports nuts in the rocky mountains.

Well, it's a shame that in your mind controversy is more appealing that "just basketball."
I'd rather see "just basketball" played by all of the best teams at the highest level in a tournament setting then discussion over computer matrices and "what if?" matchups.
March Madness makes the BCS games look like a neighborhood T-ball game. There's simply no comparison, but there could be if the NCAA pulled its head from its ass, scrapped the BCS and started a Division I-A tournament.
Take care,
PK

I'm searching through some posts here to see where everyone was predicting a USC rout. I can't seem to find that thread. I mean, that's what happens when teams are overrated, right? Didn't we all predict that Nebraska was going to get destroyed a few years ago by Miami? It's easy to come here and say Oklahoma is overrated *after* the blowout. Oklahoma was an undefeated team from a major conference that is going to put plenty of players in the NFL. They deserved to be in this game as much as anyone in the nation.HipE wrote:I don't think you can say Oklahoma is overrated because they are getting blown out in this game.
I turned it off at 45-10, but what I saw up to that point was an extremely good USC team playing at a high level and an Oklahoma team playing poorly.
You also said that they were overated before the Longhorn game and that Houston had a chance to beat OU. Say the same thing long enough and it eventually comes true.
Edit I just noticed where Leebo already said
Well, to be fair, you also said before the OU/Texas game (just pointing this out before Bdoughty does):

So you blame the coaches for all the mistakes made on the field? How about you give a few of the players some credit for their screwups. Bob Stoops coaches the punt return team and I doubt he would have had Bradley pick the ball up at the three yard line for any reason. They sure did not teach Bradley to miss his block at a crucial part of the game. Not putting all the blame on Bradley just giving examples.bayousooner wrote:In 5 years you have had 3 chances to play for it and have a title. They do that and you think OU needs some staff changes?

I am happy they were there, but to be embarrassed like that and to not be prepared two years in a row, someone is not doing their job.

I havent read this thread for awhile.
Has anyone given USC credit for being an incredible football team???
This is their second straight year with at least a share of the title...and they were probably the best team the year OSU won it.
They played the season without Mike Williams...remember him?
The NCAA sux ass..We do need a tournament....but this is USC day.
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why? That would be a step down from USC.Weaver2005 wrote:They were saying on the Fox Sports Morning Show today that Pete Carroll maybe headed for the 49ers.

I not only congratulated USC, I gave them an early congrats for winning three in a row next year. My beef was never with USC and/or it's fans. As always my time is spent arguing with a disgruntled Auburn fan, does not matter which forum I go to I find them and bring them out of the woodwork.XXXIV wrote:I havent read this thread for awhile.

Sorry Teal but you can't keep buring the bridge and hoping I will come back and rebuild. We have been through the "you are sorry and apologize" before. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Maybe they go after Norm Chow instead of Carroll?ScoopBrady wrote:And who speculated that a couple of weeks ago?Weaver2005 wrote:They were saying on the Fox Sports Morning Show today that Pete Carroll maybe headed to the 49ers. sf_z wrote:While we're at it, can somebody more up on college football and the Republic of Texas tell me what happened to the Cotton Bowl? It used to be one of the traditional major bowl games but now it's been relegated outside the BCS and in the second tier with a bunch of bowls named after steak houses and tire companies. What caused this to happen? The demise of the SWC, bad facilities, bad deal w/ CBS, the Cowboys, etc.
The demise of the SWC. Once the Big 12 decided their champion would play in the Orange Bowl that killed the Cotton Bowl and dropped it down to a 2nd teir New Years Day bowl.

I would think that the 49ers would try their best to get them both. Chow continues to impress me, but I'm not sure if he's ready to jump to NFL head coach. He'll be entertaining plenty of openings for head man in the college ranks - I believe he already turned down Syracuse. Just Carroll going to the 49ers doesn't impress me much either... He needs a great offensive mind to compliment him.Weaver2005 wrote: Maybe they go after Norm Chow instead of Carroll?
That would be York making another mistake. Going for a "name" coach, even though he has no HC experience (or experience in the NFL?).Weaver2005 wrote:Maybe they go after Norm Chow instead of Carroll?ScoopBrady wrote:And who speculated that a couple of weeks ago?Weaver2005 wrote:They were saying on the Fox Sports Morning Show today that Pete Carroll maybe headed to the 49ers. Ugh I can see York forcing the new GM to draft Rodgers or Leinart to play behind a porous line.
Well they had the Cotton Bowl this year so one would go out on a limb that the stadium is in operation.wco81 wrote:Is the Cotton Bowl still even in operation? I know the Cowboys are trying to get out of Texas stadium.
I guess a lot of money spent on football went to high schools. Why did SMU come down so far in prestige? Didn't Texas A&M make a splash with big name coaches a few years ago?
Are you testing us? What does the Cotton Bowl have to do with Texas Staduim and Dallas Cowboys? What does High School, SMU and Texas A&M coaching have to do with this?

BD, I am not always right and I never said I was. You took your shots at me over the Texas game and I am just returning the favor. I am sure if I went through your post history I would find a lot of games that you got wrong. I have felt that OU has been overrated for the past 2 years. I felt strongly enough about OU being overrated that I won money off of yesterdays game.
