Re: OT: Medical Issue
Just continue to stay strong, Steve and continue to get her the help she needs. Continued positive thoughts and prayers.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Re: OT: Medical Issue
Hi guys. Just thought I'd pop on and give you all a quick update.
Just over a week ago we went to see a specialist at UNC. She is pretty big in the field, and treating cases like my daughter's is all she does. She told us that there was a med that is used after others fail, and that we needed to head in that direction. Given the severity of certain reactions and side effects, it is initially administered in a hospital. So my sweet daughter is back in the hospital (here in Charlotte), being gradually increased on the med, and having her blood monitored as well. We are really hopeful that this may help her to have some relief, and some clarity.
Thanks again guys for all the thoughts and prayers.
Hopefully I can join you all soon in some game talk. Speaking of, now that PK is on the Xbox One....maybe I need to as well. Would sure love to try Forza Horizon 2.

Re: OT: Medical Issue
Hi guys. Sorry it has been forever since I have been in the "neighborhood." Just read some posts and it feels good to be back around. In fact it has me itching to get back into gaming. I have been mainly hands off, just letting the kids do their thing.
As for my daughter, the powerful med has definitely been helping! It's extremely powerful so she has to get weekly blood tests for now. In fact, they only dispense the meds weekly at this point, and only when the Doctor has signed off on the blood test results. We also have the alarms on our phones set to 12 hour intervals to make sure the meds are dispensed at the proper time.
Hope all of you guys are good.....and again, thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers. They are very much appreciated.

Re: OT: Medical Issue
Guys, things have gotten a lot worse. What seemed like progress was anything but. If you have the time to read it, please read my wife's latest blog post. She goes into great detail and says it better than I ever could. http://hopeinthedarkestdays.blogspot.com/
Re: OT: Medical Issue
Don't even know what to say. I'm only part way through it, but...God Bless you and your family. If even half the parents in the world cared as much as you do, this place would be amazing.
What really concerns (and frightens) me is the part about insurance making that call. We all know that's a reality, and I saw it first-hand with my mom's Cancer fight last year...but it's terrifying to think that a bean counter somewhere (potentially) controls someone's life, somewhere. I know it's probably bad form to say so, and I apologize--but you and your wife know her the best. If you think she may need to be hospitalized, which is entirely within your right to entertain the possibility...what do they need to see to avoid the possibility of another headline in USA Today that we see all too frequently nowadays?
My heart breaks for you, man. Absolutely breaks.
But, if anything, this group of people on DSP has shown us over the years that we're all here for each other. Some sort of weird internet therapy to help us stay strong when we're at our weakest. Chin up, and keep putting one foot in front of the other--trying not to get buried under the enormity of the battle.

Re: OT: Medical Issue
Just heartbreaking stuff reading your wife's blog. I will pray that you guys will get all the strength, love and understanding towards your daughter. Must be so hard to carry on with your daily life when you have such a delicate matter and yet you guys have done with courage and eternal compassion.
We are all here for you and your family.

Re: OT: Medical Issue
Steve, I can't say anything more than I've already said to you privately. That's some messed up sh*t. And truthfully, no one really, like REALLY knows how to handle this stuff, other than to medicate a person into near oblivion, especially when what you're trying isn't working. Just from our conversations over the years, I hate hearing even more crap. Your family has hugged the damned cactus long enough. Be strong, and don't let that 'voice' start to make you blame yourselves. I know that sounds weird, but we begin to believe weird stuff when it's our kids. And always remember that it's not Hope, either. It's not her.

Re: OT: Medical Issue
Thoughts and prayers to you and your Family, Steve.....I don't think words alone can help.
Re: OT: Medical Issue
Thanks guys for the prayers, kind words, and thoughts. It means so much to me to have you guys there for me. I know that I have been far from a "good poster and contributor" on this board, and I am sorry for that.
We are currently waiting to find out if my daughter will have a bed at this hospital or be shipped off to somewhere else. Hoping it's the former. Wife is headed to see her shortly, will post more when I have some news.
Again, thank you for everything.
