Re: F1 2013
Zero complaints after a quick playtest with current and classic cars.
F1 2013 has the pointy turn-in that I loved in F1 2011, eliminating the frustrating corner-entry and exit understeer of F1 2012. Codemasters also has found a happy medium between the ridiculously short braking distances of F1 2011 and the truck-like braking distances of F1 2012.
The AI also seems more aggressive without being idiots. Nice to see AI cars break down, even in a three-lap race.
The Classic 80s cars around Brands are a F*CKING hoot. Can't wait to race online.
Very, very stoked at this early stage.

Re: F1 2013
It's awesome. It's new! The cars feel different but I haven't put my finger on exactly how. I did the Day 2 ydt stuff in the Ferrari and I did a few of them a bunch of times - I really, really want that 3rd gold so I can start career in the Sauber - and there are quite a few things that feel different from 12. I also did the current RaceNet challenge which is the Red Bull at Suzuka.
Starts are different for one thing. Gone is the "stamp on the throttle and watch the car go." Clearly some skill and timing will be required to get a non-Webber like start. The cars may be a little pointier than in 12, but I experienced a fair amount of understeer on exit, which certainly caused me trouble and will take some time for me to adjust to.
From what I can tell, you can run any set of cars on any track, which is f***in awesome. I haven't looked at online yet but I don't see why it wouldn't be true there as well. Classic Grands Prix seem to only have a "short weekend - one shot qualifying" option available which means any setup work would have to be done in time trial mode. Assuming there is setup available for the classic cars which I haven't confirmed yet.
In one of the ydt challenges, they put you on completely worn tires, and I was happy to see that the car wasn't sliding around like it was on ice, unlike in 12.

Re: F1 2013
Omg I just tried a wee bit of the classic stuff - holy crap, the sounds alone are worth the whole package! The two beasts I tried are so different from the modern cars. Just from my little taste, I already deeply appreciate what they've done here. Already my resistance to paying for the 90s packages is weakening greatly.
If I were wise, I'd at least hold off until I felt like I'd put in a big chunk of time with the 80s stuff and just about worn it out, but wow. f***in awesome! All I can hope for is that Codies find a way to continue to add more and more and more of the classic stuff in future versions.
I need to get a handle on the tracks. That will take a while, although I do have plenty of familiarity with Brands from the ToCA days.

Re: F1 2013
The Codies nailed it with this game. I raced classic 80s and current cars on Brands for quite some time last night, and it was pure bliss.
Early days, but F1 2013 plays like the Formula One game we've wanted since Codemasters got the license four years ago. But unlike Zeppo, my resistance to buying the 1990s cars isn't weakening -- it has crumbled.

Re: F1 2013
Should we try a race or two tonight? I probably can't stay up past 11:00 EDT, but I could start relatively early if others can.
If no race I hope to finally try out some GTA V with the DSP crew.
Most likely I'll just fall asleep about 9:30

Re: F1 2013
Agreed all around. I raced at Brands and Jerez last night and I love the old tracks and cars. With no assists they are a challenge, but not undriveable. Also, if you have not already done so, create a RaceNet account and go run a Racenet event. This will get you the 1976 Ferrari 312 T2 recently featured in the movie Rush and you can check out many of the new features in the RaceNet online stat tracking. So far I am very pleased, it is a lot better than F1 2012's implementation. I still wish it tracked and displayed the assists being used to set times, or allowed some kind of filter, but overall this is a big improvement. https://racenet.codemasters.com - It does not look like it has online race results though which is still a feature that I wish console racing games would embrace.pk500 wrote:The Codies nailed it with this game. Another really cool thing they have added to RaceNet is the ability to create your own custom events. I went ahead and set one up for the 1976 Ferrari 312 T2 at Brands Hatch
If you want to compete in my "Tribute to RUSH" event, just login to RaceNet (https://racenet.codemasters.com), go to the "Manage Events" tab (top right), then click on the "Friends Events" tab at the bottom right. Now click the "Select" button for the event "DChaps - Brands Hatch - Dry - Ferrari 312 T2 - Expires 19 Oct 15:57 GMT". Now the next time you login to RaceNet from within the game on Xbox, it will take you to this event.
https://racenet.codemasters.com/f12013/customevent
On this page you can create your own custom RaceNet events to share with your friends, and choose to take part in the events they create. By selecting an event from the list below, this will become the event that appears in F1 2013 when you choose to enter a RaceNet event from the game’s menu.
Re: F1 2013
It was killing me to watch the download sloooooowly progress last night, knowing it wouldn't finish until overnight. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to join up for online racing sessions, but the RaceNet stuff could be a really fun way to experience the game.
I'm such a sucker for the classic F1 stuff, didn't really plan on buying this one until you guys kept going on about how awesome it is.

Re: F1 2013
They aren't saying. It seems possible to me that it won't ever arrive, although that is unlikely. It seems the soonest it may show up would be in three weeks or so, but it could perhaps appear before the end of the month.XXXIV wrote:pk500 wrote:Download, for now.XXXIV wrote:Woo hoo!

Can you see other friends' lap times in the game? I couldn't find any way to see others' times at all, much less select a ghost to use as a rabbit.dbdynsty25 wrote:THAT is a cool little feature. I bought the 90s cars last night. Zero regrets. The 1992 Williams FW14B is a f*cking chariot of the gods. Incredible.

Re: F1 2013
Yeah, I noticed that last night. Very annoying. Apparently you can only see the stats/results on the web at RaceNet. Additionally, there is no way to race against anyone else s ghosts. Strange design decision given that in all Time Trials and Time Attack modes within the game you can see your friends times, and you can race against their ghosts. Still cool, but why would you not implement the ghost racing feature?Zeppo wrote:Can you see other friends' lap times in the game? PS - Nice time db!

I guess I'm going to cave soon then. I'm excited about racing at Imola. I may feel differently about it now, but way back on F1 World Grand Prix on the N64 it was a favorite of mine.pk500 wrote:I bought the 90s cars last night. Zero regrets. I'm sure I'll buy Imola and Estoril within a week or so. Chalk it up as an inevitability ranking with death and taxes.Zeppo wrote:I guess I'm going to cave soon then. Re: F1 2013
Time for a DSP F1 2013 roll call so we can organize some quality racing nights. Who has this game, and what extra content -- if any -- have you purchased?
I have standard downloaded game. Purchased 1990s cars.

Re: F1 2013
I haven't purchased any content yet, but I likely will. Driving the throwback last night during Don's event was just awesome. It was almost more fun than racing the current gen cars. Just more of an edge of your seat, out of control half the time feeling...just awesome. That said, I have ZERO idea how to shave another three seconds off my time to catch Adam...no idea. I already felt like I put down my best time possible. Scary.
