Same thing with my old gaming friends. No one wants to make that commitment any more.

Umm my criteria isn't what DSP people play. I buy what I want which is evident by my monthly bill. When it comes to shooters I only enjoy playing with people I know and that limits it to here and my PC friends. My PC guys and me are still playing BF3.

I don't know a single person besides you who is buying this game and I haven't read a single thing that sets it apart from other shooters. So perhaps the legs comment on my part was a little misguided/ I should of said I've yet to see what I would be missing by not owning this game. Especially with AC3 coming out soon.

There's only room in my short stack of games for one new shooter/combat game. AC 3 for me, too. I think that game will end up being popular here. Looks like a blockbuster with a unique twist on an era that hasn't been strip-mined in video games.

Look, it is what it is. I've allowed myself to get frustrated with the lack of participation, across the board, with 'big room' games. For what it's worth, however, both Spooky and Marc have indicated that they will be picking up the game, on this thread, so you can hardly say that 'no one besides' me is picking it up. To be honest, that kind of ticks me off, along with all the details that have been given by me and others that you apparently haven't read. I don't give a crap if you buy the game or not, but you cannot make your reasoning that I'm the only person buying it, or that you've seen no impressions of the game that are any different from any other shooter. Either you haven't been paying attention, or you don't want to, and that's fine, but you can't fault a lack of interest or a lack of impressions.

Not sure why you have a tarantula tickling your nuts about this, Teal.

EVERYONE at DSP knows you're a shooting-game nut. What military FPS released in the last few years have you hated? What major military FPS (Ubisoft, EA, etc.) in the last year have you not purchased? So the concept of you liking and buying a new military FPS is about as shocking as Paris Hilton going shopping for new handbags on Rodeo Drive.

We all hope you enjoy MoH: Warfighter. But I think some of us have either smaller gaming budgets or aren't as fanatical about FPS games as you, so we're more picky. And I'm with Dan: The MoH beta was decent. Nothing earth-shattering, but not 100 percent derivative, either.

But it wasn't worth $60 to me. Especially with a long list of recently released games and upcoming releases competing for my very limited gaming dollar.

Have fun with MoH: Warfighter. Seriously.

I didn't, until Dan decided that this thread never existed, and that I was somehow on an island all by myself. That's just lazy generalization. I'm perfectly fine playing this game with other folks, the couple of DSP guys who are picking it up, and people outside of DSP. I made that clear enough, I thought, the first time I said it.

GREAT to hear! I'm out of town until Thursday but can't wait to be your teammate when I return.

Which actually leads me to a question...are the teammate pairs used in combat mission mode?

I should be receiving my copy this afternoon, though I am a little concerned that EA is rushing this game out the door.

Reviewers just received their copies, and EA already has a day 1 patch prepared. Now having played the beta, we know it's not terrible, but I'm afraid we may see many essentially unfinished parts, and the reviews will be unkind, killing the game's lifespan and audience.

Granted, I always thought BF3 was an unfinished game as well...

Yep, yes they are. Teammates are a part of every mode. I played WAY too long last night (did the midnight launch thing), and Combat Mission is great stuff. It doesn't seem to be as large, map wise, as the last one (at least the sightlines aren't as long as, say, the mountain map from the last one, at least so far), but the Combat Mission type hasn't been messed with at all. I love it. There are quite a few other modes, and are welcome for a change now and then, but CM is my go-to.

Look forward to seeing you dudes online!

Marc, the patch dropped early this morning, and I was playing when it dropped. It improved quite alot, and was in direct reference to beta feedback. I don't know what the in's and out's of the patch were, but things just 'felt' better after the patch. This game does have the texture pack, and it's a must. It doesn't take long to download, but man, the game looks much better than the beta, IMO.

Hell, I may wind up having to play Borderlands 2 tonight...we're trying to hack through Pirate's Booty, and haven't played in a few days. But my money is on Warfighter tonight. It doesn't appear that we're all getting Horizon today, anyway. But yeah...choices, choices.

One other question...any idea how many Combat Mission maps are included?

Not sure at this point. I've played a few, and I've liked them all. But I don't have a hard number.

Real Ops. That's a difficult mode! It's all Hotspot and Combat Mission, with almost no HUD. Not green and red outlines, no indicators when you kill someone (only sight confirmation), no indicators of how much damage you've sustained...wow. It's far more realistic.

I'm just as much a fan of Hotspot as I am Combat Mission, I think. Same concept, but there are more objectives in Hotspot, and they're random in how they 'open'.

I got put in a few games last night with no HUD. Personally, I'm just not a fan of these modes, particularly when I am still learning a game and maps. Frustratingly, I didn't see any indicator of which games are set this way.

Anybody know how to exclude hardcore servers, or whatever else is causing this?

THis BY FAR IMO the best mode to play this game on. You can go loud and not worry about showing up on someones HUD which is nice. IT definately helps to have a good headset or surround sound system for hearing the footsteps and or shots being fired. Teal if you are online and want to add me to your FL so we can get some matches in let me know!!

Tried the Home Run mode last night as well. This is a no respawn CTF type of game with 10 rounds. 5 rounds attack/ 5 rounds defend. Extra points for capping the flag. I think this mode would be better served with the Real Ops setting. The maps are very small and remind me of Rainbow 6 when it came out on Console.

I have no complaints with this game after the first night. Hopefully the game will have some legs but only time will tell.

If you don't like the no HUD stuff, stay away from Real Ops. Truth be told, I'm not 100% on this mode, either; I like my video-gamey helps, because I'm old... But it is a nice change of pace sometimes.

I LOVE the 'peek' cover function of this game. Never really seen a FPS do that. In the SP campaign (which has some really nailbiter missions, btw, based on real world events-you even get to take down 3 Somali pirates, from sniper positions, who are holding an american ship captain hostage... ), it makes battles MUCH more intense, because you don't feel like either an idiot or a super-hero. You're peeking around cover, which snaps automatically into the scope/iron sights view, and taking shots. It's really immersive.

I wasn't prepared for the DRIVING missions in this game, either. Both I've played are well done, and both are edge-of-your-seat affairs. Just an impressive game.

MP is getting better as I'm getting better, using the cover system, firing in controlled bursts, staying with my wingman. I'm having alot of fun with it.

Y'know, games like this, the single player campaign is too often a distraction, just some mindless over-Hollywood-ization with lots of guns, lots of explosions, lots of barrel-chested grunts doing impossible things, kicking ass, and chewing bubble gum.

Wow.

Warfighter's campaign is not that. Not at all. It's rare that a game grabs your emotions, even more rare for a first person shooter to do so. But this one does. I am honored, as funny as that may sound, to have played this game. They do great homage to our fighting men, the elite operators, and go a long way to humanizing them, showing that the fight isn't always on some distant shore...but also right here at home, with the fallout of making the choice and it's family implications.

It still seems weird to be talking that way about a videogame, but man. This is SO not Call of Duty.
