D'oh, sorry i didn't even notice the discussion about using lower teams. I'll switch ASAP. Probably Slovakia.

Get this or wait until Fifa 09?

What is the consensus?

simple.. Get them both ;)

Euro plays a good game of soccer and if you are a soccer gamer, you'd not be unhappy you bought it. However, if you're a casual fan of kicking the ball around the pitch i'd probably wait. 09 will be tweaked a bit more and will have hundreds more teams to play with and all the european leagues etc....

Life is short.

I think $50 is too much for this game and a money grab by EA. I'm waiting for FIFA 09. ;)

Could we take the online league recaps out of this thread? I don't think it's going to get lost if you start a new one.

You can't do it when you press "x" to watch a replay after a goal. Instead you have to pause and go to replay from the menu.

I lost about 4-5 great goals until I found this out. Stupid EA. :D

I'd get them both. Euro 2008 is an excellent game in its own right, with a number of things improved over Fifa 08. I'm having an absolute blast in Captain Your Country mode and I am pretty impressed with some of the improvements in the AI. Through balls are light years better than they were in Fifa 08.

Best wishes,

Doug

Thanks again jrod!

I just uploaded this quick video of a goal I had this morning against Germany. Shows how the through balls have improved I think (and maybe how porous the defense can be.

If we could upload some online DSP goals that would be cool.

I can't resist anymore. Through balls were disappointing for me in Fifa 08 and to hear that it's been improved it's a big plus, I am taking the plunge this weekend. Nice goal Mac.

The defense is still crap , no way should that forward have been in on that pass.
First off the forward isnt realy open when the pass is made he just magicly knows where the ball is going to end up and seeing as though the defender is facing the ball he should have reacted quicker to that ball than the forward did and they just make them fart around until the forward can get to it first and then let it react.

I understand people like offense in these games but you gotta give the defense the same oppertunities to break up a play its what balances the whole game .
People will just exploit that thru ball online all damn day.

I just got done with a 5-3 game with France against Romania. I have no idea to make out what just happened.

The cheat AI was out in full force. Romania scored first on a cheap goal. Then 5 minutes later Anelka scores. Then Romania scores again with another forced goal. Right before half, Romania scored again.

After half I put three goals in the net. One was an exploit off a rebound and the keeper was still on the ground. Outside of that, they were good goals.
Anelka had four goals with Henry getting one.

Romania had 10 shots and I had 16. Way too many shots on goal.

It was fun but geez I sure hope this isn't the difficulty we see in FIFA 09. I hope they make that completely attribute based. Meaning if you are Stockport County you should be able to compete with Man U. Passes shouldn't be complete, runs shouldn't be ran, you should have 10 men behind the ball and hope that Man U don't put in 27 goals. Likewise, if you are Man U, Stockport County should be a walk. They should just kick the ball around, put ten men behind the ball, and play route 1 football.

Probably with the FIFA dev team, is that they think this will turn people off to the game. How could what really happens turn off soccer fans. I guess there are some knobs that buy the game so Hull United can win the Premiership.

And it's not just one game, I've played 55+ games in EURO 08, I just don't wish to type a f***in game report every time I play.

JRod,

Calm down. No need to overreact like that. DB's probably said things 100 times more snarky in the past...that comment wasn't that bad.

Both of you,

This thread will not become a back and forth between you two; otherwise I will temp ban.

People try, but it's relatively easy to defend. It's easy to exploit against the AI, but between timely trapping and heads-up D, a human player can eat that pass up all day.

It was on semi-pro difficulty too. Rob's right, player controlled teams don't have much trouble defending against something like that.

has anyone figured out the difference between the "new analog" controls and the default controls?

If it's anything like FIFA 08 new analog controls are basically Winning Eleven controls with player switch on the left trigger and the cross and shot buttons swapped.
