Surprise of the year/shocker are my Marlins. I thought they'd be in last place and here they are in 2nd place. I still see them bottom dwellers but it's nice to see them doing well at the start of the season.
Both the Yankees and Dodgers are playing below their capability this year.

Miami is now 11-7 this season and in 1st place with Scott Olsen (1.66 ERA last four starts) and crew combining for a 3-0 shutout. Hanley Ramirez hit two solo HR's.

My bad, the Marlins. I'm trying to get use to calling them the Miami Marlins. They are supposed to get a name change once they get their new stadium. That was part of the deal in the Marlins getting their new stadium.

When I went back to Miami a few weeks ago, I found out where the new stadium is going . . .
They're demolishing the Orange Bowl to put it in. Very sad.
Has anyone seen Micah Owings (pitcher on the Diamondbacks) hit? This guy is a great hitter. He was tearing the cover off the ball last year, and this year is no different.
I think Bob Melvin's finally starting to get it. He sent Owings up to pinch hit in the late innings today with the Diamondbacks down by 2 to Houston. Owings responded by tying the game up with a homer. From what I've seen of him he's got substantial power. Who knows what he could do if he played every day.

Cards serve your purpose. The one you were created for. The one you have exceled at for a century. Keep the 100 years of cub futilty flowing....
That's funny, I thought their purpose was to exterminate pitchers on their active roster and give hope to those who can't manage to find a jalopy in good enough shape to make it up I-55 to civilization

What the heck is going on with the padres??? Tied for the worst record in baseball with no end in sight. Maddux is stuck trying to get 350, we can't hit worth a damn (nothing new there)...
I know but you gotta enjoy the cards in 1st while it lasts....
Yeah, I don't think anyone expects the Cards to win the division, but they sure are making it interesting. They had the most wins in April in their franchise history. They've reached 21 wins faster than anytime in their history. And they're doing it with a make shift starting staff. These are all number 4 and 5 starters except for Wainwright. They just took 2 of 3 from the mighty Cubs. Do they or do they not have the second best record in baseball?
Heck, there's controversey now that if Mulder comes back from his rehab stint, who do you kick out of the rotation? I don't think it's going to be answered for a while as Mulder has struggled big time in his last two AAA starts.
This was supposed to be a very down year for this team. They certainly still could tailspin, but at least they're not letting the Cubs run away with the division.
After a horrible road trip, Jays are having a mini winning streak sweeping the Chisox and winning their last five games. It's not hitting when there are runners in scoring position that's haunted this team this season thus far, and not so much the bullpen.

Yep....been frustrating with men on that's for sure.
But how about that starting pitching. Over the last 10 starts, our starters have an ERA of around 1.30. Pretty amazing stuff. McGowan was zipping in 98 mph fastballs at the knees all night against the Sox.

Indeed. Along A.J. Burnett they've been the most consistent guys.
Unfortunately the Blue Jays are here for a four-game series this weekend. The way they're pitching plus the way the Tribe's hitting lately, looks like it might be another rough weekend for the Tribe.

Indians pitching has been pretty impressive also. Runs will be at a premium in this series. But your right about the hitting, they can't hit thier way out of a wet paper bag right now.
