The only problem is that all new consoles have a year warranty on them.Brando70 wrote:With the one year warranty they provided on the repaired unit, it actually made more sense that going out and spending $300 for a Core and getting a 90-day warranty.

My 360 has both feet in the grave :(

Correct. Microsoft changed their policy awhile back and extended even purchased 360's to 1 year.dbdynsty25 wrote:The only problem is that all new consoles have a year warranty on them.Brando70 wrote:With the one year warranty they provided on the repaired unit, it actually made more sense that going out and spending $300 for a Core and getting a 90-day warranty.

Meh...try $250.00. At least from most reputable sellers from what I've seen. Peeps are trying to unload systems only (no power brick, cables, or controllers ) refurb'd for about $200.00!JackB1 wrote:How much can a refurbished 360 get on Ebay these days? I am thinking $100-$150? That would cut the proce of a new core in half to $150. I think I might go that routedbdynsty25 wrote:Yes. I did that when my first one crapped out...then I just sold the refurb I got back from MS.Brando70 wrote:The other question is, can I just buy a Core system and use my hard drive? I have two wireless controllers already, so I don't need the extra stuff.
I was thinking of getting a 360 again by going the gamestop route (250.00 for a refurb), but then who knows how much the warranty would run? Guess if I could find an eBay deal on a new one, still in box on the cheap that might be the best way to go.

The f*ckers told me twice that it was a year for repaired console and it better be because I don't think #3 is going to last long. It sounded like the space shuttle from the day I got it and I got red lights tonight, but it still plays now after a restart.snaz16 wrote:My original was still under warranty,so I won't have to pay for the repairs, but in conversation with the rep on the phone,I was told there would be a 90 day warranty when I get it back. I was under the impression from here, that it should be a year.
It's a year warranty for the refurbished unit. I specifically asked.
I knew they had extended the warranties for a year on earlier consoles but didn't know they did it for new ones. Oh well, still cheaper than paying for a new Core. I realize the refurbs have a higher fail rate, but if I have to part with it again to get it fixed, I'll deal with it. I just don't want to pay for repairs after this.

I have a 360 in perfect working order made in late '06 with all accessories plus Guitar Hero (w/ Guitar), charge station, extra controller, extra headset, VGA Cable, Vision Camera available if anyone's interested. It hits eBay tomorrow (Sunday).

my quandry now is, do I buy a new core console and sell the one the send back to me on Ebay, thereny reducing the price of the new core to
about $100 or do I just stick with the refurbished unit, hoping they have used the newer procedures on them to eliminate the 3 red ring problem.
I am also contemplating getting another core from Sears, just to have something for a few weeks....I will just return it for a refund when my refurbished unit comes. Sears takes everything back.
Thats what happened to mine. My new one broke after 2 months, then they sent me a refurb and gave me a 1 year warranty on it.JackB1 wrote:they told me the same.......one year warrantly on the refurbished unit.Brando70 wrote:It's a year warranty for the refurbished unit. I specifically asked.

Now I am thinking of getting rid of the whole thing before something happens. So far it's been good for 3 months but I am constantly playing games on my ps2 and not on 360. It's there collecting dust. I will see how the football games go but if none of them wow me, I'll sell it off this fall and maybe pickup a wii.
Do videogame HR departments require arrogance? Seriously, it seems like anyone who is high up in these companies has to act like a complete jagoff. Is there some Kelly Flock Finishing School they go to?bdunn13 wrote:MS denies there is an issue with the 360..

I'm not defending Microsoft one bit, but if the dude admitted there was a hardware problem inherent in the design, wouldn't it open MS to a class-action lawsuit considering the seemingly abnormal number of 360 failures?Brando70 wrote:Do videogame HR departments require arrogance? I agree with Pk. Why would they admit they're having an enormous amount of failures? It sure wouldn't make Joe Consumer rush out to purchase one. Plus, this article would be much bigger than the Daily Tech. Next thing you know, it'd be read in the USA Today, NY Times, etc.
MS knows there's a problem. They're not blind. It's probably bigger than they had ever imagined. Even if they don't acknowledge publicly there's a problem, at least there are people writing about it who are constantly reminding them of the failure rates. For that reason, it won't be ignored. I truly believe these problems will be corrected in time.

Anyone remember the problems playstation1 had reading CD's (people turning their PS upside-down, on it's side, etc just to read the discs)? Anyway, the year Sony announced the PS2, they had a press conf at E3. A reporter asked him if they fixed all of the CD Drive problems that PS1 had, and the Sony rep started shrugging his shoulders w/ this blank look on his face like it was the first he ever heard about it. No will ever admit anything, all part of the game.Brando70 wrote:Do videogame HR departments require arrogance? Journo: 'So, about the issues with the 360...'
Todd Holmdahl: 'What is your definition of 'issue'?'
Journo: 'What?'
Todd Holmdahl: 'Well, 'issue' can mean many things. And how I would answer that depends on what the meaning of that word is. For example, a definition may be 'To put forth,' like we do with our fine lineup of exclusive games available for the Xbox 360, or the unparalled online experience we present to our customers. We do believe we are a giving company...'
Journo: 'How about 'issue' as in 'problem'?'
Todd Holmdahl : 'Well, that's a negative approach to definition selection wouldn't you say? And overly specific when you really need to be looking at the breadth of what we offer. But if you want to be that specific, I'll oblige. If you want to examine the 'issue' like that under the microscope, let's break it down. The core composition of Issue is really two words: 'Is' and 'You', something you should consider when you begin asking these questions. An appropriate starting point. So 'Issue' as in 'problem?' Is-you? Perhaps the problem is you. Have you considered that?'
